Great update josh can’t beat the diy set ups and there always room for tinkering and improvements your pond is looking really good josh and I like the mugs 😃👍🏼👍🏼 All the very best Mike 👍🏼👍🏼
I built a barrel system before moving onto a drum. I had the same problem with it over flowing you need to extend the water exit pipe with slots in longer so media can come up further in barrel before overflowing which also gives you more slots to lay water through. Hope this helps there great system and work really well, however your water looks great as it is.
I have an identical system to yours and used to do a clean every weekend which was a mistake. upset the biological system now do every every 3-4 months I live in Sydney Australia water hasn't been so clean and clear.
@2654tyrepower good to know..thanks for the comment! I clean mine once a week in July, August and September when I feed heavily...rest of the time I leave it 2 weeks...sometimes longer in the coldest months. Take it easy bud
Couldn’t you put a wave maker in the bottom of your blue barrel filter to remove the debris from the bottom of the barrel and couldn’t you use an egg crate to hold the K1 down in your barrel. And maybe a filter sock over tops of the pipes for stop files or debris.
For your water top ups you could use an Evolution Aqua dechlorinator, easier to incorporate than a big blue but work most effectively when mounted vertically!
@FishDocx I think it would restrict the flow returning back to the pond. I have always assumed that on a pump fed system the uv goes before filtration. Might be able to get around it somehow mind
@kristopherwolf3811 definitely know that feeling...I think I watched every other diy barrel filter video on RUclips before starting mine. And recently done the same with bog filters 🤣🤣🍻
Good idea, I always hate the thought of a totally empty filter bay, almost feels a waste! Would probably work best with a perforated tray for the media mounted above the water inlet to create a void under the media so that the water rises up through the media to the outlet! Also to be an effective vortex it really would need to be considerably bigger to promote a slower circular motion and proper dropping of solids! Think your suggestion of “sinking” K1 would prove much more effective at removing fine particles and contributing to clear water, particularly with a “pump fed” system which is going to be chopping up the waste and macerating it, which is difficult for any system to catch properly!
@stusills I had a marine tank....Once I started building the pond and got the bug I closed down my tank. Really enjoy the koi hobby. What stage is your build at? Glad your enjoying my videos...comments like that make the filming and editing worth while 💪
If I was to fit the uv after the filters I would have had to raise filter system up so water would flow though the uv back to the pond...even then I think the uv might restrict the water returning to the pond. Hope that makes sense. I was a bit worries about muck build up in the uv but I recently pulled the lamp and quarts sleeve out and I was surprised to see it clean.
What keeps your pond pump clean from debris before it ever get to the barrels? My problem is I have so much algae and muck in my water I have to keep cleaning the filter in the pond itself.
Im not sure...but fish seem more than happy the way i do it. Touch wood i havent lost any fish and all of them have near enough doubled in size since i pit them in 10 months ago.
Sorry to poke my nose in , when you top up your pond water you need to treat the whole pond and not just the 450lts of tap water you put back in , unless you do it in buckets outside the pond .
@pinpickers1175 about 6 weeks ago I removed all the k+ from the first barrel and I now use it as a vortex. It's work amazingly. I was also cursed with the dread blanket weed recently so I fitted some filter brushes in the tip of the first barrel while I treated. I've decided to leave the brushes in permanently as they do a great job of catching stuff. I think I show the brushes in the blanket weed video I recently uploaded

Nice to see another bristol based pond and koi keeper.
Looks great. Love the view from the patio
Great update bud 👍 love them barrel filters they really do work a treat 👍
Getting that media held down was the key....as soon as I fitted the perspex disk the difference was night and day.

Very impressive joshy boy!!! 😊👍🏻👊🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Class set up Josh, and a nice detailed walkthrough of your system 👍🏼👌🏼
Cheers mate.... fish are happy, water is clear and cleaning the system is pretty easy for me 👌
Cant beat a good diy filter system 😉👌
It's certainly doing a good job jiggsy boy 😎
the place is sooo nice
Nice idea on your Barrels, took some notes, subbed to your channel, nice looking pond.

Que bello eres gracias por tu video blogs BABY ❤❤❤❤baby
eres muy bienvenido 😎😎
Gracias baby😍

The placement of the UV light. Would it work on the return after the last filter to maximize the biological aspect?

in my country this filter system is called a static bed kaldness / helix
Could K1 “sinking” media have worked in first barrel?
Possibly....definitely something to think about there!
@@BrizzleKoi great content btw. Just when you think you have seen it all, you find a couple of other hobbyists, and back down the rabbit hole ya go.

Great video mate. What size air pump do you use to get a good boil on like that please
Jabeo pa 80. It runs my moving bed and my pond air stone. Hasn't been switched off for 15 months and hasn't given me any trouble 💪👍
Brilliant thank you. Been a Marine fish keeper for years but now swapping to a pond. I’m just building my pond and enjoying your great videos.

why is the UV fitted before the filters ? please help iam confused. Cant it be fitted just after the moving bed ?

I use an evolution aqua varipump 20000. It doesn't have a filter on the pump and if i remember rightly it can pump particles up to 10mm
Im not sure...but fish seem more than happy the way i do it. Touch wood i havent lost any fish and all of them have near enough doubled in size since i pit them in 10 months ago.

Lovely mug boy! Has anyone noticed that my new names Rob🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cracking video
😂 hey Rob 👍
😂😂
Hey I have been called worse 🤣
What is the white pipe and fittings and where did you get it from mate
It's 15mm plumbing pipe. Manufactured by JG Speed fit and I got them all from screwfix
Cheers
I noticed in later vids you don't have thr vortex in barrel one did it not work out ?
