Ok people, Schultz was tough but in NO way does he crack the top 5 maybe even 10 in Flyers enforcers. He is just remembered because he was the main go-to-guy during the Stanley Cup championship winning Broad Street Bullies era. He also had a crazy amount of PIMs. He wasn't as tough as Brown, Wilson, Berube, Tocchet, Holmgren, or Brashear. A young Todd Fedoruk was also super tough and so was Jody Shelley (with CBJ). He would hit you when he got ya down. One time I saw him show compassion. Against cote I think as a rookie. Brownie pummeled him so bad he just stopped mid pummel. Than Brownie shit talks him. Classic.
Wish he would have fought Probert more. They only fought twice. Brown with a slight edge in the first but it was more hugging than fighting. The other one Probert won.
when we traded Brown out to EDM, he was already aging. Turns out he had some legendary battles waiting for him in the West, especially in the age of "roids" and juice. His early years in the Eastern Conference, he was king. When he went out West, he had amazing battles (broke Grimson's face), but his old school style starting to falter. I could see the young guys were training just to beat him.
I'm a boston guy. If I had to start an NHL team . I'd higher Dave brown as my third line winger and build the team around him. No one has ever done that job better.
