This was a crazy game, and one interesting note, this was during the NHL-Russia friendship series in the early ‘90s where NHL teams went over to Russia for a few games, so those were some good games played over there.

Lots of beer league energy here. Reminds me of Team Canada in some romps during any Olympic qualifier or whatnot while the Canadian homer announcers talk about how much respect we have for the game. (Yes, I'm Canadian)
I don’t know about a shit show but they were definitely spirited matches with both sides playing for pride whether it be national teams or NHL teams. Yankees or Canucks didn’t need a motivational speech from Tortorella to get fired up
0:31. Russians still using that old style goal net design, outlawed by the NHL early 80s when Mark Howe slid into the sharp bottom centre support and tore up his groin and butt very badly
Habs come off like a beer league team here…is that Chris Murray with no jersey, showboating to the fans upon ejection? Also I see Malakhov and Konstantinov but any other NHLers…? Tough to tell with all the Cyrillic…
Skrudland was the ultimate beer league player. Rode the coattails of players like Patrick Roy, Larry Robinson, Chris Chelios, and Ed Belfour to a couple of Stanley Cups. The Canadiens traded him late in '93 and won the Cup that year. That tells you a lot right there.
I am not sure if Murray was on Montreal roster in 90, he didn't come up until 1995-1996.. Seems like Montreal dressed their regular team McPhee, Keane, Corson, Richer, Carboneau, Skrudland, Savard, Dufrense were all shown. Not sure if Odelein, Roberge, or Ewen dressed for this. I will say, Montreal that season didn't act like this against Boston or Philly. Wonder why? Seems like alot of NHL tams took advantage of the Russians over the years.. Remember the Broad Street Bullies running them in 74 I believe.
@@Shooter_McGoo , It was in 1976 when the Flyers played that game against the Red Army and the Russians left the ice after Ed Van Impe ran over Valeri Khalamov which was a legal hit . And this game was after the Russians played the Canadians to a 3 - 3 tie on New Years Eve ( 1975 ) and remember everyone in the NHL were pulling for the Flyers because the Russians were dominating that Super Series against NHL teams .

I don't know where you find this stuff, but this is a gem. Well done, I appreciate it!

It was exciting hockey. Not like now. With ballerinas.
Russia Goalie could fight better than the Russian Defensemen/Forwards. The Russians were ten ply soft. Refereeing was terrible.

I forget who it was, but one of the players said Russia ran their mouths alot during games..
Number 12 on the russian side is young Pavel Bure. Definately a beer leaguer 😂
Is it just me , or did all of the "friendlies" the NHL played against the Russians turn into a shit show?

I'm guessing Mike Keane had a grudge from the punch up in Piestany.
Habs behaved like dirtbags that night...
But it was real hockey. Angry, perky, and without ballet.
Great clips…different dynamic back then
Mike Keane wasn't big but he was tough and threw a hard left
Finish ref is totally overwhelmed lol Go Habs
