  • These are very rare tracks, and when I first listened to them I was instantly in love. Thanks to TheBeets for originally uploading these to Mousebits mousebits.com/...

The first male singing voice sounds very familiar..".Energy...these are a few of your faces..."? Anyway, this is quintessential traditional/synthesized fusion so typical of early EPCOT Center back when synthesized sounds were just a new color on the palette, not trying to replace actual instruments. Thanks for sharing this gem.

I wish they would have Meet The World at Epcot Center it seems like a great show I hope they would revive the concept and bring meet the world to Epcot Center soon in Japan Pavilion

  • @paboy2727

Yeah it was for Epcot but a construction error in the Japan pavilion made it impossible to have a carousel theatre in it

Also because Meet the World omits Japan’s military aggression period from 1937-1945 ie the Second Sino-Japanese War/World War II.

This is contested a bit bc meet the world had delays due to Tokyo Disneyland’s delay and a promise for a dual opening. So it was pushed off. Epcot Cebter was over budget and WDC moved into a massive financial crunch. This likely made it cancelled from purely a financial perspective.

Yay, I get to hear it outside the theater now months after I discovered this song back in December 2022 or January 2023, but I have wish I heard that song back 10 years ago in 2013, but instead I heard only this decade and didn't have to wait for that whole decade then anyways, lucky for me, but I haven't get to discover this back in July I would like to, but instead August now is alright.
I just liked this beautiful song sang about Japan.

"Meet The World" was written by the Sherman Brothers who also wrote the songs for Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book.

If I'm not mistaken, around 1:14, I believe the lead female singer is Shelby Flint--the same singer from The Rescuers.

I maybe wrong but didn’t Epcot use the meet the world song in a parade the first months it was open

No I don’t think so? Unless someone can support this claim, that would be helpful.

There is a recording of an earlier proposal for MTW as well. It has the singers doing different sections. Also, the tempo is a little slower and some lyrics are different.
For example, in the second stanza of Theatre 2, in this version:
    Samurai, haiku, zen,
    Kabuki, noh and sumo,
    Like the cherry blossom tree,
    Our culture came to bloom.
In an earlier version called Loop 2:
    Gentle verse called haiku,
    The theater of kabuki,
    Martial arts of samurai
    and sumo wrestling, too.

@@definingdisney it's quite sad that the only bits we have of the source audio are a few seconds of the first transition from an opening day souvenir tape and the finale released in the Sherman Brothers songbook. There could be other clips on the internet, but those are the only ones I managed to find so far. Hopefully the full thing will be released in the future (a very unlikely best case scenario).

@@definingdisney The closest you'll get is from the early Official Album of Tokyo Disneyland, where the finale version was released. Oh, and I just remembered it DID get released in the U.S. on a Sherman Brothers complication CD. It was nice to have that included. But...it's not the full show...oh well.

Also the song sang samurai, kabuki, sumo and I'm not sure what is haikusan is, but they didn't mention to sang words like geisha, pagoda, a torii gate, shinto, zen or flower kimono clothing or not even sushi, bento or mochi, but I liked that they sang cherry blossom trees and culture came to bloom, I wish there's more to that then sumo, samurai or kabuki are all Japanese guy things and not much Japanese girl things and Japanese food or places.

It's "haiku, zen." Here are the lyrics to that stanza:
      Samurai, haiku, zen,
      Kabuki, noh and sumo,
      Like the cherry blossom tree,
      Our culture came to bloom.
