I think Craig has made it his goal in every episode to interrupt Dan and prevent him from getting to another pundit for as long as possible just to get under Dan’s skin for 30 seconds to a minute. Craig does it all the time when Dan is trying to segway to a remote pundit. And Dan loses it every time.

If he is capable of being objective about it, Southgate should have THREE major regrets as he reflects on what might have been:
    1. Playing an unfit Harry Kane. England played every game effectively with 10 men. Had he started with Watkins or Toney in the final, England would have had a much better chance of winning. In fact when Kane went off, and England went to a full complement 11 men against 11, England held Spain 1-1.
    2. Not playing a genuine left winger. Anthony Gordon should have played and Foden should have alternated with Bellingham and Palmer at no.10. Start one, bench the other two.
    3. Not taking a fit left back. England lost the opportunity to really attack teams on the left flank. In the final Luke Shaw ran out of steam in the second half and England’s left flank was non-existent as a threat.
In the final analysis, Southgate lacked the courage to make the really tough calls with Kane, Foden and Bellingham. But the biggest mistake of all was Kane.

Bobby Robson had a very successful post England career winning the Dutch and Portuguese leagues with PSV and Porto respectively and managing Barcelona where he won the Coppa Del Rey. He also managed Newcastle. Won European Manager of the Year in 1996-7. We have to train up more English managers and making sure they excel. The pool is too small.

International football pays less, less hours, yes, but it pays less than club football.
Example the German FA wanted Klopp.
German FA publicly admitted it would be hard to match the figures he currently earns.
“The DFB can’t pay Jürgen Klopp at all, he earns a fixed €24m ($26m/£21m) a year, plus €26m ($28m/£22m) guaranteed advertising income - so €50m ($54m/£43m),” the German FA's Ralph-Uwe Schaffert said in a recent interview (via Focus)
and that is just £43 mill for Klopp, I don't even want to imagine what Pep gets at Moneybags Manchester.
By comparison, Southgate got £4 million and was the highest-paid manager at the Euros tournament.
That is why Eddie Howe is also off the list because the FA can't afford to pay him, they don't have the money....unless they take money from other areas like grass roots football programmes etc

I'm no Southgate apologist, but the main reason for failure is that Spain have far better players than England. More importantly, they're a far better team. Movement off the ball was immense. Even Pep/Klopp won't progress us to that level, though there's obviously room for improvement

because he wasn't lol, some of the blame yeah, for taking injured players and playing people out of position, but let's be clear after England equalised he was not standing at the edge of the pitch screaming at them to get back and park the bus and play with 2 lines of 5 defenders, they, the players did that on their own.

@user-pn3cj8sd5r that's exactly what I'm saying. Try taking off the EPL centric goggles for a minute or two; it's not the be all and end all for football. Harry Kane playing when he knew he was not match fit, did the country no favours. England effectively played with 10 men, and without a striker. Little wonder they struggled for goals in every game.
Kane has form for this, though. He did the same to Tottenham in the UCL Final. Lucas Moura had been outstanding for Spurs against City in the QF and Ajax in the Semi-final. Kane had not recovered from injury, was not match-fit but played at the expense of Moura. Kane made no impact on the game, Spurs were impotent as an attacking force and whimpered to defeat.
As a captain, sometimes you have to put the interests of your team or country above your own selfish desire for personal glory.

His friendly PE Teacher act may have worked in the lower divisions of Sweden but he showed at Chelsea that he's not the right man to manage top-class professionals.
Apart from getting a couple of promotions in Sweden, what has he actually achieved in football?
He finished mid-table in his one season at Swansea, who, incidentally, got to the play-offs in the two seasons after he left, his Premier League win percentage at Brighton was very similar to Chris Hughton's and, like Swansea, Brighton were better off without him and he had a nightmare at Chelsea and has been out of work for about 18 months!
