You have beautiful examples of intuition & gentleness. Thank you very much for sharing your techniques & veiwpoints! Btw, I've learned from others that if you keep chickens near the places where the horses are kept, the chickens can help keep the flies down.
She loves her animals and they look very healthy and well cared for. That's really the bottom line. Also, this pony is comfortable with her grooming him, so she's doing fine, even if she's not using the "official" brush on the "official" spot.
Oh I have learned the follies of going around the front end of a horse. The head came up and I learned how to fly. I learned afterwards the best way is to go around the back end as close to the rump as possible. They can still kick you, but they don't have the distance they need to get enough force in order to cause serious damage that way.
OMG!!! Let me save you pony!!! JK but seriously use real brushes and on the areas they are meant for. That means body brush on THE BODY and main and tail brush ON THE MAIN AND TAIL!!! NOT THE BODY
Okay, this is ridiculous. Why are you using a mane and tail comb on its body? It's been designed for its mane , not its body, it will not have an optimum effect on it. If you use a curry comb you will achieve a MUCH better result, as curries help pull up dead hair and dust from its coat. Horses love being curried as it's like a massages for them. You then use a dandy brush which you use to flick off all the hair and dust the curry bright up. Finally, using a body brush finishes it of and wicks away any forgotten hair, dirt or grime that the dandy missed. A face brush is designed for the face and any other sensitive areas of your horse as it's very soft. A goat hair brush adds shine to the coat if you are entering a show. Also, why are you picking his feet out like that? You should be pointing the hoof pick AWAY from you and scraping dirt of and over the hoof. I don't know if you do it correctly as I only saw, like, two seconds of it but it did look that way.
InsanityRam And who made these rules? Grooming routines vary from person to person and horse to horse, one person may use a curry comb but not a dandy brush simply because the horse doesn't like the feeling of the hard bristles or is sensitive to the touch of the dandy brush. One person may use a mane and tail comb because the horse likes that feeling and it works for THEM. Not all horses love the feeling of the curry comb and prefers to be vacuumed. Like I said it varies from horse to horse as they all have different skin, sensitivity etc, this works for BECKY and HER horse. There is no written rule for grooming a horse as long as you font endanger the animal in which case she didn't.
Yeah! Most horses will not tolerate this so for most people it's not going to be very helpful. I'm partial to the rubber mitt curries as they are gentle enough for face and legs and remove a surprising amount of hair. This horse is fluffy enough to benefit from a shedding blade. Proper use of a shedding blade is less irritating than this.
Jesus what is wrong with you people?? Becky is not a professional farmer or zoo keeper. She is just trying to give pointers to people like me that know nothing about this subject. Instead of negative criticism how about giving positive advice to help her and in turn help people like me.If you don't want to help then go away.
Exactly! That looks like a halter with no break away feature. She has also tied the horse to something you should never tie to. If he pulled back, he could easily break that board. It doesn't take a genius to find a solid place to install a proper tie ring.
With the thing you said about not needing any fancy grooming tools, just a friendly tip; the horse brushes you get at tack stores and farm supply stores are more affective and can bring more dead hair and skin to the surface than the two you used most likely can. Really the rubber curry comb or jelly scrubber and the dandy brush'll do you the best brushing-wise, and they generally last you many years. My backup is I own a light colored pinto mare whom has a real good coat and skin. This is just a friendly tip! Nothing harsh or criticizing against you. Your videos are great! ;)
Becky's Homestead Love the video Becky, I was wandering if you could make a video of the feed you give to the animals. You say every thing is organic and healthy. I'm really loving your videos even though I'm 17 I can't wait for my own homestead and I'm really exited for the dairy goats I'm getting in spring.
Hi Becky watch your videos when I can, my dad bought me some chickens from a friend he had but they are not regular chickens from the store. So I was wondering if all chickens lay eggs.
That was wonderful!!! I don't know anything about horses and I don't own them. But that is very good information and it makes a lot of sense and he looked beautiful!!!
Hi Becky, thanks for the great video! We would like to worm with diotomatious earth. How much and how often do you give it to them? Would it be best every day, or is that too much? Thanks a lot! Love your videos - I just got my ferrier tools and am about to do my first trim thanks to your great video!!
Stop sending hate they are her ponies and she can care for them how she wants , her ponie is not in pain as you can see and they both look happy. She was just responding to what one of you asked her
Becky, my name is Swanee Speed Ramsey. I have enjoyed your videos I put a note out to all my friends to go to RUclips and watch a few. They are so informative and family friendly. We dream of a set up like this (in a smaller scale) someday. Keep up the good work. If you ever need someone to clean stalls I'm just up here in SC. My last kids(triplets). Left for collage two years ago so my days are wide open. My husband flies for Delta so I have a good bit of free time. My question is Do you ever have an open house? That would be a dream as would brushing horses, feeing chickens or scooping poop. Keep up the good work and holler of you ever need a free set of hands. You are the best teacher!
Thanks for this vid Becky! I was not familiar with the Haflinger breed, so I went and did some research. Beautiful, good tempered animals with a lovely gait. It looks like they are suited both for work and pleasure. Thunder is a handsome pony!
I walk around my horse in all direction I go in front of them, underneath their neck and behind them so they get comfortable with all of it. Even though horses are unpredictable its better to get them used to every way, rather then them spooking when someone does it.
+JAZZY LUNA WINDSOR SHOW I wouldn't go to the extent of calling it abuse. In Becky's horse has a lot of hair and the horse didn't seem to mind so its fine.
+JAZZY LUNA WINDSOR SHOW I was going to say "Speak English", but decided to check you out first. How old are you.... ten? Your grooming experience is your cat and dog. Keep your advice away from adults channels. Go back to your barbie dolls.
+Faith Rada I've often wondered if someone linked Becky's channel on a PETA site or something. Cause there's an absurd number of people commenting like that here compared to other channels...
exactly thats why body brushes are for their bodies and hair brushes are for the manes/tails/forelocks. You can even see the damage its doing to that horses hair, its all going in different directions. Next Becky's going to tell us that using a hoof pick to clean their eyes is a good idea? haha
I have a few questions. If your horse, mule, or donkey has an injury on its body, do you still use those same brushes? I am just asking because I know if the horses I work with have an injury I still like to clean the area to get a better look. Also why do give your horse a treat everytime you walk around your horse? Can't that encourage bad behavior? (Example: Nipping, biting, or maybe push you with his or hers head.)
I feed my horses leisure feed and sweet feed should I keep them on that diet I was feeding them oats soaked oats. and then my one horse started geting sick when she ate them.
All you people who believe Becky doesn't know how to groom a horse. Well I don't see the horse complaining so leave the lady alone. As long as the horse is clean and happy and looks good it isn't any one else's business how she wants to do it. You go Becky.
Okay first off the horse can't complain because it is a horse. It can't talk. Secondly just because the horse likes being brushed (and it doesn't look like he LOVES it) if it is not getting dirt and grime and sweat from the coat and isn't cleaning the horse its a problem. The horse isn't getting clean. It's not going to look well for long. And if it's covered in filth then it will not be happy. And it became other people's business when she posted it on RUclips. You have to look at the facts. And the facts are that she is not grooming this horse well at all.
What horse would you best think would be for a 13year old.I am looking for a horse for jumping .I am going to be a beginner jumper.Though I also forwarded.
Quarter horses are fantastic first horses. I am 13 also and I have a 15 hand paint horse who is fantastic. He is so reliable and such an easy keeper. Also depending on how tall you want a horse I have had wonderful experiences with Warmbloods. My paint does hunter/jumpers, eventing, dressage, western pleasure, reinning, and gaming.
It would be best to start with lessons on a lesson horse so you gain knowledge and confidence, then after a couple years if your still interested in horses, buy one of your own
My Equine Life104 ok. Honestly, it doesn't matter what brushes you use as long as the horse is being cleaned, and is comfortable. Also, brushing techniques are different for western and English. Oh, and one more thing, if you don't like her videos stop watching and move on. Why don't you make a video yourself if you're such a wise man!
Miss Abbi AWESOMESAUCE!! Brushes are NOT different for English and western at all! They are the same!!! The reason you don't use a mane and tail brush on a horse is because it dose not get the dirt off. Most of the time the horses hair is too short. So maybe educate yourself be for you spread false information.
Ellanator 360 um well I've been to English and western barns before, and they are different if you're talking about "proper" brushes. It doesn't matter what brushes she's using and they aren't you're usual mane and tail brushes. These are actual brushes for humans, but the horses are being cleaned so what does it matter? They aren't showing any signs of aggression or pain so what's the big deal?
Ok,first of all u don't use a hair brush on the body of the horse.and second of all its winter the"dead" hair is his winter coat u don't curry comb a horse in the winter.horse brushes might be expensive but u NEED to use HORSE brushes not bruises made for cleaning
Hello, great video and advice! But I have a question if u could do a video how much does it cost to own a horse? You'd really help me with this because I'm a huge lover of horses and I have a big land with an empty stall and me and my family want to buy a horse but we're afraid of finances. Thank you so much!
I have 2 Miniature horses and a large pony (combined, they eat as much as 1 normal sized horse). I spent $300 on hay for the winter, plus $10 a week for grain (in winter, it's only $10 a month in summer, because only one needs grain in summer). One of my minis needs a hoof supplement, so that's $45 every 2 months (it will last 4 months after she's been on it for a year). My vet will charge about $200 for vaccines this year ($90 for one horse, it's not necessary, but a good idea), and $200 for the dentist ($75 for a regular sized horse, he charges less for the minis, once a year). My farrier charges $20 per horse (he's cheap... most farriers will charge about $30 per horse). And then there's tack, fly spray, and and anything else you feel like you need. So $815 a year for one regular sized horse's maintenance, with my prices. Becky probably pays less, because it doesn't look like she feeds grain (my grain price alone is $240 to feed for 6 months), and she does her own farrier care (I would avoid her suggestions on hoof and farrier care, she did a video on fixing cracks, and the horse's hooves were way overgrown). But if you don't know much or anything about horses, you should definitely pay a knowledgeable farrier to do your horses, and while grain is optional, you will need to feed more hay if you don't feed grain. And lessons would be a great idea (approx $30 a week)
hi becky i wanted to know what state do you live in it always loks very beutifal weather wise. also you should do a video on the cheapest way to build a fence and barn for your horses.
How is this incorrect it's not go watch another video and if this one is it let's watch every video just say it's in cracked but you didn't I'm a beginner and it's video is correct and it's not incorrect it's correct and don't say beginners to not follow this because this is incorrect if not and learning to spell it doesn't make any sense beginners do not follow this is incorrect that does make any sense even when it because it still doesn't make any sense because this is incorrect and you should say why go watch another video all of those horse videos have there and they are incorrect not this one she has to watch every single video of this but you don't and you say this is incorrect just because that's one no it's not other people don't say that

I think giving treats improves grooming however you do the job, and if you haven't decided to keep the horse whatever brushes you use will be ok - getting the technique and approach right is more important good job Becky, getting the job done is better than neglect...
My horse hates being groomed she throws her head and nips and stomps her feet because she’s bored and hates it but she’s nicer now she is okay with baths she’s only had a few because of weather
this is, um.. a unique approach to say the least, still love your videos, just a little odd.. never seen a mane and tail brush used on the horses body.. strange.
I have one thing to say umm you shouldn't use the soft brush on the body and the face you should have two different brushes because you can spread things and that's just a suggestion
You have beautiful examples of intuition & gentleness. Thank you very much for sharing your techniques & veiwpoints! Btw, I've learned from others that if you keep chickens near the places where the horses are kept, the chickens can help keep the flies down.
The brushes at my store are cheap range from 2-5 dollars hoof picks are 3-4 dollars
Yeah you should buy brushes made for horses not find dust sweepers and hairbrushes.

It's ok to give horse a bit of sugar as a treat, my horses favorite treats are sugar cubes
I love watching your videos ... your voice is calming 😊
What I do to walk around my horse's back end is pat starting at the shoulder and ending at the opposite shoulder all the way around the horse.
OMG!!! Let me save you pony!!! JK but seriously use real brushes and on the areas they are meant for. That means body brush on THE BODY and main and tail brush ON THE MAIN AND TAIL!!! NOT THE BODY

Gwendolyn Burton no this is not proper sweetie this is really bad because there are more than two brushes there are 10 brushes to use soo no
What kind of a knot did you do? It's always best to do a quick release knot.
Exactly! That looks like a halter with no break away feature. She has also tied the horse to something you should never tie to. If he pulled back, he could easily break that board. It doesn't take a genius to find a solid place to install a proper tie ring.
Hi Becky, could you make a video of caring for goats and how to chose a breed of goat. Thanks! Great Video!
Daniel Nigerian dwarf goat's are the best! I have 2!
I do hope you don't dehorn the poor things.
Do you ever use soap/shampoo on your pony?
Becky I love your homestead! It makes me want to be like you I hope you do this for years to come! Xx
Since when s $6 dollars expensive for and ACTUAL HORSE BRUSH
great video Becky 😊 I don't own a horse but this was still fun to watch 😂👍 horses are so cute 💕

Do you think it would be okay to use the same technics on a cow?:)
nope
Hi Becky watch your videos when I can, my dad bought me some chickens from a friend he had but they are not regular chickens from the store. So I was wondering if all chickens lay eggs.
Hi Becky, thanks for another great video. I plan to get a horse sometime in the future so this was very helpful.
Thomas Katayama noooo stop this is not how you groom a horse this is opposite to do
That was wonderful!!! I don't know anything about horses and I don't own them. But that is very good information and it makes a lot of sense and he looked beautiful!!!
Lol is this a joke!?!?!😂🤣😂🤣
Beginners this is terrible advice don’t listen to it
Sea Equine wtf this is so funny that is a mane brush and a curry is a 7 dollar purchase 😅😂
Exactly 😂😂
Was thinking the same thing lol!🤣
Shush, you brainwashed
Exactly
Hi Becky, thanks for the great video! We would like to worm with diotomatious earth. How much and how often do you give it to them? Would it be best every day, or is that too much?
Thanks a lot! Love your videos - I just got my ferrier tools and am about to do my first trim thanks to your great video!!
please can u do a video on you tacking up and riding you horses/mules
Good idea
Not really a good idea, because she does it wrong. Watch an official one and learn it the right way.
Saartje de Hond Yes her tack doesn't fit
Not just that. It doesn't fit, she's doing it wrong, etc
Saartje de Hond Yup, she shouldn't make videos to teach others when she doesn't know what she's doing herself
Stop sending hate they are her ponies and she can care for them how she wants , her ponie is not in pain as you can see and they both look happy. She was just responding to what one of you asked her
Pony
Hi Becky, What are the options for healthy fly spray? Thank you. I love all your videos!
Becky I have a question .. what is the best beginner horse/pony ?
I love how nice your horse looks

Not hating but I think it's important to buy real brushes instead of using a mane and tail brush as a curry comb and a dust cleaner as a hard brush
Equine 77 true
Thanks for this vid Becky! I was not familiar with the Haflinger breed, so I went and did some research. Beautiful, good tempered animals with a lovely gait. It looks like they are suited both for work and pleasure. Thunder is a handsome pony!
I love you videos! I just got a miniature horse do you have any tips? Thank you!
I love your videos I think you should do a how to halter a horse I have a horse but still I love you
becky, you are such an inspiration.
I walk around my horse in all direction I go in front of them, underneath their neck and behind them so they get comfortable with all of it. Even though horses are unpredictable its better to get them used to every way, rather then them spooking when someone does it.

You should use proper brushes especially if you want to make a how to groom your horse PROPERLY

Ok,first of all u don't use a hair brush on the body of the horse.and second of all its winter the"dead" hair is his winter coat u don't curry comb a horse in the winter.horse brushes might be expensive but u NEED to use HORSE brushes not bruises made for cleaning
Agree with you 100%. If you are going to do a video on grooming and handling a horse, at least have some idea! It's hair, not fur!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello, great video and advice! But I have a question if u could do a video how much does it cost to own a horse? hi becky i wanted to know what state do you live in it always loks very beutifal weather wise. also you should do a video on the cheapest way to build a fence and barn for your horses.
or you want to stock her
she lives in florida
Didn't you just wash off sll the fly spray?
You should have mentioned that it is also best to keep a hand lightly on the horses behind as you walk around them so they do not spook
No you put it on the Roses back as you walk around learn how to take care of them
Great job ponny and Becky!!!
What treats do you use?
How often do you have to groom
Were did you get Thunder?
beginners do not follow this because this is incorrect
Amelia Morgan I don't know what is correct there's no horse trainers in my area so that's why I'm watching this

Dear Becky,
I adore your videos. Can you please do a video on cleaning the chicken coop?
Sincerely, your subscriber
Do you give riding classes
He's beautiful!
Your horse is beautiful :))
I think giving treats improves grooming however you do the job, and if you haven't decided to keep the horse whatever brushes you use will be ok - getting the technique and approach right is more important good job Becky, getting the job done is better than neglect...
Your animals are lucky to have you as their owner
Hi Becky, thanks for the info. :-)
What a sweet horse! Love your videos, ignore the snobs
my horse hates a hard brush on his back but loves it on his stomach!
Nice video Becky, thank you
Can you do a video on all of my pets or all of your horses and pony's? Can you also do a video on what you need for your first horse/pony?
9:20 Thunder was adorable
Guys if it works for her its fine! The horse isn't hurt is it?
No, but it's just wrong! It's like brushing your skin with a hairbrush!
OMG !!! I can’t believe the comments. The brushes she is using is fine. I use my old hairbrush on my horses.
My vet was just here to pull coggins and said the words "your horses look Fantastic" !! ☀️❤️☀️
yep as a kid I got plenty of head bumps passing under horses necks
What breed is your pony you where washing?
Haflinger
Great video. Thank you
Normally you would do the hoves first because if they have something that's uncomfortable then you can get it out and they are comfortable
May you do a video on your dogs. And tell the breeds.
He loves you Becky.
And I noticed you used a mane brush FOR HIS LEGS which are really senstive and you should only use soft brushes.
With going around the horse you should just put your hand on its back so it knows where you are
+becky's homestead i love your videos! you should make a how to tack up a horse properly.
Sugar doesn't make people hyper it's a myth
When you were doing the forelock a horse bucked lol

My horse hates being groomed she throws her head and nips and stomps her feet because she’s bored and hates it but she’s nicer now she is okay with baths she’s only had a few because of weather
So beautiful Becky,..aww!
this is, um.. a unique approach to say the least, still love your videos, just a little odd.. never seen a mane and tail brush used on the horses body.. strange.
THANKYOU SSOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH Becky
I have one thing to say umm you shouldn't use the soft brush on the body and the face you should have two different brushes because you can spread things and that's just a suggestion
Paige Gtr QUICK! FORGET EVERYTHING SHE TOLD YOU
I want to see you ride bare back!
walking around their end you should talk to them and keep close to their end and keep your hand on them. She kept quiet and didnt touch him.
