There is so much more information you could have added to this video. Charlie also has a low wither and what looks like a slight roach back which needs to be factored in as well. The width of the channel and wether the gullet size fits the horse are also important. You definitely pointed out some things but if people were to go buy a saddle for their horse based solely on this video, there could be sore unhappy horses. If you are going to do a video like this, it needs to be 100% accurate because people who follow you seem to take your advice at face value.
+Litfromwithin what about a 4 finger channel saddle fitting behind the shoulder and not going past the last rib would make any horse sore? There would be WAY more happy horses if people followed this.
+Anna Loucks Thank you. All I'm concerned about is that saddle fitting is critically important and by leaving out crucial details, people might not give it as much importance as they should. Stating that the saddle slips back when Charlie trots a lot is another indication that the saddle is either not fitting properly or that he may need a breast plate. Saddle fitting is just not something that should be taken lightly is all I'm trying to say.
Being around horses for several years i have to disagree with some of this. If your saddle fits properly, it should be able to sit over the withers and provide plenty of shoulder room. If the saddle sits and squeezes the withers, its to small. Putting it to far back on the horse can also cause a lot of discomfort.
Also, the channel, or tree, is completely different than the gullet, the gullet goes over the withers and is the most important part u have to fit to the horse. Which wasnt really discussed...along with the fitting of the saddle with the saddle pad.
Didn't Becky say that in the video? If to much forward it does not allow the shoulder of the horse to move freely, and causing discomfort. There is a sweet zone, and Becky has shown where it is.
+Larry342516 yes but what it sounded like to me is shes saying, "dont ever put the sadde on the shoulders cuz it causes discomfort" , which isnt always true because, the saddle needs to be on the withers, which sometimes causes the saddle to be on the shoulders, but some saddles are designed to have extra shoulder room so that it isnt u comfortable for the horse and she didnt really explain any of that.
I'm not trying to attack you like others have, but that saddle doesn't fit at all. Yes, you want the gullet to be wide enough to clear the spine, but not so wide that it tents over it like yours does. A well fitting saddle provides just enough spine clearance, but the gullet fits close to the back. Meaning you want the contact of the saddle spread evenly along the sides, where ALL the padding touches the horse evenly. This saddle looks like its meant for a horse with a much "bonier" topline-on this mule its putting all of its preasure on the bottom half of the padding. And it is meant to go higher up on the withers. If your horse is carrying himself in a proper, collected, frame the saddle wont stop his momentum at all. I'd say about an inch further and it'd be at around where its supposed to be.
In the UK we only use 1 girth, from the Withers. The Saddle Tree is the most important, horses need to have the tree altered by a professional regularly. Could you please do a video with a professional to show why this is imperative ? Due to rubbing etc. Many thanks Amanda x
The spine isn't made to hold all the weight for a horse. Mules and horses a different but, if the saddle fits correctly it should be able to go on the withers without the horse feeling discomfort and not wanting to reach fully out with its leg.
Meghan Dietz You can't just find a way to buy tack cheaply, you just have to find cheap tack. But often you don't want cheap tack because they will be of poor quality and could hurt the horse. If you want cheap tack, learn how to make some basic stuff (bridle, halter, breast collar) from rope and everything should cost you around $15 every time.
Your saddle is way to far back. And you are giving a lot of false information. I. Suggest that I get your trainer,a professional, or someone who knows something about saddle fittings to properly fit your saddle.
Becky your horses are so healthy and great riding horses I think you should do start doing series on how to take care of your horse and stuff like that .🐴
what do u use for chickens when the have a lot of feathers missing and u can see it's skin what u use for the feathers t o grow back or the other chickens not bothering her?
You are aware that you can only tell a good fit by having the rider sit in the saddle on the horse or mule to really tell how the saddle will behave and have pressure points. Just putting a saddle on a horse without a riders weight in it tells you nothing. All saddles have a flexible tree and the fit will change when weight is placed on it.
Your totally wrong the saddle goes on the withers not in the middle of the horses back. Im going to advise you to do your resarch about certain topics for horses before you make videos on them.
Charley is a Mule, not a horse. They are built very differently. A Mules shoulderblades move up and down like pistons in an engine, a horses shoulderblades move back and fourth like a swing. Mules need a completely different saddle than horses do for this reason. Also, a breaching is an important thing to have to keep the saddle from sliding forward and irritating their shoulder blades. My point is, Mules are different from horses, and sufficient research should be d9ne before owning a Mule. THEY ARE NOT HORSES.
Hey Becky, You have been an inspiration to me ever since I've been the age of 14, now I am in collage and I have a small house in the hills near the campus, This house is almost like a mini home stead but I only have chickens! I have 3 hens and a decent sized coop. I am worried about predators stealing my chickens lives, my coop has no open areas where nothing can get in. But when I'm studying inside I let them out un attended so what could I do to help them. Also the 3 hens are all same age but di different breeds so there is a big one, a medium size one, and a rather small one I don't want the biggest ones to peck the small one to death but I haven't seen anything I wonder why? Please help me
Jayleigh Vaughn no she really doesn't. I'm sorry that you disagree, but she's actually putting her horses and anybody else who follows her instructions, into danger
omg this lady is crazy "very strong" "carry lots of weight". they can carry 20% or less of combined rider and gear. you cant just stick "lots of weight" on.
Those staples on the channel of that saddle will cause a lot of issue and the saddle here is not a good fit for the horse shown. A lot of misinformation here. Please reconsider how to video's on subjects you are unsure of
Horse is very easy to keep as it eats grass. For this purpose you only need a shickle to cut fresh grass which will cost you 5 dollars. The horse also loves to eat black peas, and 1/2 kilo will cost you only 50 cents perday. It will be given to him in a special poach hanging over his neck. This has to be increased according to his workload. This animal also needs daily rubbing, which can be done with a hard instrument. Now you animal is ready to go for 125 miles in a day. Shoes replacement is a periodic excercise. Horse drink water every day. Just put a bucket full of water infront of him.
My sister was putting a saddle on a horse one day and the horse kept popping her butt and doing the same thing yours was doing. I thought it was funny and reminded me of my sister.
must be less than 30 dollars it can't even fit her properly ,english and western saddles are always the most comfortable types but we can move to the cheap ones (colombian, astralians etc) that are redicously cheap and often cause damage to the horses back cause of inproper fit
Jeff Reeds she's not showing people how she does things, she's trying to educate people and she has no idea what she's doing. And horse riding can be a profession, some people make millions of dollars riding horses.
@Jeff Reeds. That's not true. Becky is making video's showing other 'how it's done'. How you should trim the hooves of your horse. Those hooves look horrible. "How to saddle your horse' and she puts the saddle on the horse or mule at the wrong spot. How to put a harness on a donkey. She couldn't be doing that more wrong. All she's doing and claiming how it should be done, is wrong. It's ok for her doing that at home (although I feel sorry for the horses) but claiming that's how it's done is downright wrong. And it's not her views on how she does things. She clearly says 'how it should be done'.
Dear haters: BE NICE SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING!!!!!!! IF YOUR GONNA HATE WHY WATCH IF SHE SAID THAT TO YOU YOU WOULDN'T LIKE IT WOULD YOU SO BE NICE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!🤬😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡Don't listen to haters because haters thing they know everything they don't they actually know less! Your to sweet and amazing for haters!😎😎😎😎😎😎🤗🤗🤗
I got a couple lessons for you, kid. 1. Do research before you open your mouth. 2. Have you ever even ridden a horse or been around them? If so you'd keep your mouth shut. 3. The world is cruel, learn to take criticism of all kinds and not just go off because you think somebody said something mean when they were just trying to get the right info to people. 4. The world is mean, get over it! No one on here was being mean, just trying to educate and help others.
gezz people are being so rude. if thats what work for becky and charlie, then leave them alone. Being a very keen equestrian, i would agree that becky's fitting methods and saddle type won't work with every horse. she is sharing how she does it and other people might do it differently. It's all about opinion
+Colleen Waskiewicz it doesn't matter to the horse what kind of saddle the person chooses, the only thing that matters to the horses comfort is that it fits in the sweet spot. That's all the horse wants so it can be happy and comfortable.
I agree with you unfortunately the rider doesn't always get to choose the way he/she riders it mostly depends on tack example (an english rider can't jump in a western saddle cause its really heavy and can hurt the horse) in her saddle there are quite a few limitations : she can't perform any kind of gallop its going to hurt the horse she also can't do exercises that might cause the saddle to move this leather is terrible to hard for the horse and this saddle can only fit horses that aren't circular they add tons of pressure
Horses and mules are different. Charlie is a mule, and they have different saddles than for a horse cause mules are built like donkeys. With mules the saddle sits behind the withers to allow shoulder movements up and down- as mules and donkeys move. With horses the shoulder moves in a more circular pattern so the saddle sits on the withers.
Wrong!!!!! So wrong!!! Not to be mean cause I love your channel but for your safety and the horses/mules, please go back and re-learn your info. Not trying to be a hater but want to make sure your horse and you are safe 🙂
I'd love to know how your able to afford a horse. Everyone I know that has horses always says that horses are super expensive, but your able to have one for your homestead. I'd love to get one someday if I knew how to afford it!
+Jack Brunelle I keep my horses and mule is a very natural, simple way which saves money. By not feeding any sweet feed the flies don't eat my horses alive because they are not a big sugary, sweaty body to feed on. I don't need to buy all the "extra products" to keep the bugs away. I am a farrier so save all that expense which is a very pricey part of owning a horse, and I buy me hay from a farmer not a feed store which also saves money.
do able but they can get pricy with vet, hooves, grooming, supplies you to take care of them properly like medicine and feed, and then there's a water bill and electric bill that can increase, and they need room to roam and graze and just be a horse.
Haha. I just watched a professional saddle fitting video because I'm learning to detect the sensitive areas. THIS VIDEO IS SO WRONG!!! The middle of the saddle should sit right above the 7th rib and 13th vertebrae😅. Haha. He has a bridged back meaning it's the opposite of a sway back... She shouldn't ride him, no offence, but ur probably way too heavy to ride a MULE NOT A HORSE. Stick to chicken "how to" s until u learn the basics of saddle fitting -I'm a small equestrian RUclipsr and it would be great if u could sub😝 -Ella
Hi Becky Charlie's coat is so glossy, can you give us your tips for feeding and grooming. I see a lot of critizing, but if he's going well and is healthy, you must be doing something right. Horsey folks are such a bunch of known all's. I've owned horses for years and they seem to criticize each other behind their backs. Just saying!
not true. Any saddle, fitting or not, will have edges and seams where the leather is connected. The pad is to stop the horse getting rubs and injuries on these connecting parts.
@@jadej8395 A small correction.. YOU NEED A SADDLE PAD because ( bear with me) if you don't, no matter what kind of saddle, IT WILL RUB. ALOT. not joking.. also, her saddle was too narrow in the channel, also to far forward, and her girth logic was all chicken bones and no meat, nothing to take away from this video :) just an observation
People no the saddle isn’t supposed to sit on the withers or shoulders. The tree points are supposed to be behind the shoulder. That being said, this video is not informative. Saddle fit is way more than a sweet spot. And she rigs her saddle wrong. That saddle uses three point rigging. Aka: one girth 😂😂😂 she uses two.
+Hargers Homestead Adventures learn manners? shutup? sounds like you need to learn some manners! im just annoyed because she acts like she knows everything but she doesnt. Becky is pretty but i just wish she would stick to what shes good at: baking and talking about good chickens and money budgets for a homestead.
BECKY!!! THE HORSE WILL GET HURT IF THE SADDLE IS NOT ON THE WITHERS THE CARRY 75% OF THEIR WEIGHT ON THE FRONT LEGS!! Equestrians like if you agree
Kaidyn Lisoway I'm an equestrian but I'm not liking I'm disliking leave her alone that's her mule she knows what's she doing

+Becky's Homestead sadly for tons of equines, people complicate things beyond comprehension and the animal pays the price.
+Becky's Homestead every horse has a slightly different top line and one width channel will not fit every horse.
+Anna Loucks Thank you. All I'm concerned about is that saddle fitting is critically important and by leaving out crucial details, people might not give it as much importance as they should. I agree with you
Over the withers is good the horse is stronger up front. That saddle doesn't even fit rite. Maybe on a Peruvian.
Becky I ride English and we put the saddle up on the withers and it slides back behind the shoulders
That a mule not a hors3 they have a different area to put on
I love your videos Becky because they are not only informative but they are fun thank you so much

he's the only good thing in this video

Great info. Simple and to the point. Thank you!

Sad thing is there are people watching this thinking what she does is right.
PEHeventing 😂 ikr
PEHeventing be nice she knows what's she is doing
wrong. wrong. wrong. if your saddle moves, it doesn't fit.
Teagan Brenton be nice
Of course the saddle will move when your running a horse
Becky...Did you have horse experience prior to the Homestead? I liked the way you are with the animals.
+Cherish Each Day yes, rode as a child and have been horse crazy sense a little girl.
I don't think horses have "sweet spots" there's just a place u r suppost to put the saddle
Maddie Sanford be nice
Yup that's how it works
Becky your horses are so healthy and great riding horses I think you should do start doing series on how to take care of your horse and stuff like that .🐴
What is a farrier ?I love the video.
A ferrier is a person who does horse shoeing. Most come to the horse, and some are also blacksmiths. HighDesert Rob
Someone who trims your horses feet so they don't get too long and uncomfortable
what do u use for chickens when the have a lot of feathers missing and u can see it's skin what u use for the feathers t o grow back or the other chickens not bothering her?

Typical snooty equestrian with a bitch attitude.
Actually its not a typical bitchy attitude its the truth
What's the brand's name of that saddle?

SchleichAdventures does it matter
SchleichAdventures lol the equestrian version of do you even lift

@ Katie Alfredson I have owned and ridden horses for 12yrs and I didn't know that so thank you
Julie’s daughter - true
what about for western?
Don't you also have an Australian saddle for Charlie?
Those staples on the channel of that saddle will cause a lot of issue and the saddle here is not a good fit for the horse shown. A lot of misinformation here. Please reconsider how to video's on subjects you are unsure of
Horse is very easy to keep as it eats grass. For this purpose you only need a shickle to cut fresh grass which will cost you 5 dollars. Wonderful information! I know lot of horse owners, maybe I'll have one too
love your videos
I love your videos! is Charlie a mule? just wondering.... hes so cute! thanks for this video, it really helps!!
Wow! Great information!
My sister was putting a saddle on a horse one day and the horse kept popping her butt and doing the same thing yours was doing. I thought it was funny and reminded me of my sister.
Not to be rude but aren't you sapost to put the sadle on the withers not the back so if puts more preashiure on the shoulder than the back
great video.
Good job Becky.
Thank you Becky for what you do!
Kevin Johnson what she does is hands out false information, none of this is right and it can hurt her mule. And if you follow it your horse
How expensive is your saddle?
must be less than 30 dollars it can't even fit her properly ,english and western saddles are always the most comfortable types but we can move to the cheap ones (colombian, astralians etc) that are redicously cheap and often cause damage to the horses back cause of inproper fit
Your saddle is lifting up in the back .
I like your horse video's you can make more😉
this video is so wrong. haha. i ride horses as a profession and just so you know riding a mule and riding a horse is completely different

This is a decent saddle placement video for a mule. (Sorta) but not a horse. Overall, nice job!
Charlie is so beautiful. I love horses.
Charlie isn't a horse he's a mule
Yeah this isn't correct....saddle is way to far back
no offence, you know nothing about horses

It's doable. :)
do able but they can get pricy with vet, hooves, grooming, supplies you to take care of them properly like medicine and feed, and then there's a water bill and electric bill that can increase, and they need room to roam and graze and just be a horse.
There is no sweet spot .......THIS IS TRASH

Horsey folks are such a bunch of known all's. I've owned horses for years and they seem to criticize each other behind their backs. Just saying!
I'm sorry Becky I tried so hard to get to every hate comment 😢😭😭 Keep up the good work
😲
Oh my no - no - no 20% no more than weight to carry including gear - saddle isn’t well fitting - sweet spot ??? Please stop
elaine east-byers and please stop hating
You really should of used a saddle pad to stop the saddle from digging into the horses skin.......
Zimmer a well fitted saddle does not need a saddle pad. saddle pads are solely to protect the saddle from dirt and hair.
not true. Any saddle, fitting or not, will have edges and seams where the leather is connected. The pad is to stop the horse getting rubs and injuries on these connecting parts.
Equestrian like that's the biggest problem of this video😂
@@jadej8395 A small correction.. YOU NEED A SADDLE PAD because ( bear with me) if you don't, no matter what kind of saddle, IT WILL RUB. ALOT. not joking.. also, her saddle was too narrow in the channel, also to far forward, and her girth logic was all chicken bones and no meat, nothing to take away from this video :) just an observation
Please do not follow her video if you are a beginner! Horses and mules have different backs. Also a lot of this info is not correct!
A mule is a little different than a horse and the saddle is a great saddle but it is not a saddle that many horses have
You are giving false information, and you are using a mule where's thunder do you not like him
its not even a horse its a mule and y couldnt u just do it on thunder
People no the saddle isn’t supposed to sit on the withers or shoulders. The tree points are supposed to be behind the shoulder. That being said, this video is not informative. Saddle fit is way more than a sweet spot. And she rigs her saddle wrong. That saddle uses three point rigging. Aka: one girth 😂😂😂 she uses two.
As I said two years ago
RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!
eat it becky
Omg this is super nice video I wanted to get a horse but the butt is smelly
Don't get a horse if you think that.
I am laughing so hard
amm...your wrong
michal guliamov so you can't even spell
maybe i use those short words on purpose u know
but it doesn't say anything bout my equine knowledge hun
first of all that is NOT a horse, and second of all, that ain't a saddle for horses ..
Stop and also use a saddle of dummy
That’s a mule...not a horse
Omg no they don’t
what even is that saddle 😂
All these "horse" ppl bitchin on here crackin me up...watch another channel
I dissagree i have been rideing horses very long there is no sweet spot
the reason you have a mule is because you know a horse cant carry you because you weigh to much
She's not that big, and her mule is the size of a standard horse
Did someone tell you that you get to say what people are supposed to look like?
because they were wrong. You don't get to say.
No one asked for your rude mouth to open! Shut your pie hole and learn some manners!!!
+Hargers Homestead Adventures learn manners? shutup? sounds like you need to learn some manners! im just annoyed because she acts like she knows everything but she doesnt. Becky is pretty but i just wish she would stick to what shes good at: baking and talking about good chickens and money budgets for a homestead.
so why you talk about her weigh??? Seriously..
Please don’t listen to her. That saddle is way too far back
thats a mule
Thomas Hackworth she knows
Are you looking for a man?
That is not a Horse that is a miul ‼:-( Lier
Maria Oskars You still ride them
