    Gotta admire her confidence, but sweet as Becky is, she does not look like she really knows what she is talking about. For starters, don't stick your fingers in between the teeth of the horse (mule, and that really is a nice mule). The bit really is too loose, and is actually pulled through the mule's mouth when Becky mounts (REALLY BAD). Then she DROPS THE REIN after she gets on. That mule really is an angel - he just stands there. A beginner rider should not undertake the suggestions in this video but should go to an experienced friend with a quiet horse, or better, take a month's worth of group riding lessons. Don't worry if the saddle fits -- you can't tell -- let someone else do it. Never look at the horse's head while mounted? Poppycock. Just don't drop your chin. To stop a horse that is walking, stiffen your hips so they are no longer following the horse's movement. Anyway, you get the drift. Becky, you are adorable, but this one is a miss.

      +Charlotte Morgan you don't know what pain looks like if you think loose, happy Charlie is in pain. There are a lot of horses and mules out there and people don't need to be "perfect" to ride them. Any animal can tell when they are treated well and loved and have a happy life.

    1. That is a mule
    2. The bit doesn't fit correctly
    3. You should really use much rein to steer

    • @skywolf716
      @skywolf716 8 лет назад +17

      1.She said it was a mule and the techniques are the same for a mule as a horse for riding
      2.The bits supposed to come out just a bit
      3.That horse is trained for only a little bit of rein used for steering and if you use to much of rein for turning it can hurt the horses mouth,I dont like yanking horses heads around all day neither should anyone else.

    I agree with the comments ~ the cheek pieces are too loose on the bridle & that is making the bit sit too low in the mouth ~ that is why the horse/ mule is making a licking sound & 'chomping' the bit ~ it is uncomfortable where it sits so s/he is trying to move it up/ back into the correct place in it's mouth with it's tongue. As it tries to move it backwards (by chomping) it will bump any canine, wolf teeth or molars ~ very painful even using an Eggbutt Snaffle (which is what you are using here dear) and even the rubber coated type bits. It will give a sharp pain when it knocks the these teeth which then will make the equine sharply throw it's head and it will become quickly 'head shy'. Over time the equine will refuse the bit. Some equine do not use a bit at all ~ they might do better with a Hackmore etc. All horses are not out of the same mold and do not work the same. It is like saying you can teach someone to drive a car in one lesson. People please go get proper lesson from a professional first. Look at Christopher Reeves ~ RIP his spinal cord injury shortened his life. And he was also an accomplished rider. Even without jumps this is like learning to drive a car without the airbags.
    PS Have my British Horsemanship Papers. Also the equine must be properly fitted for the saddle to avoid costly wounds.

    "Horse won't slam on the breaks"
    . . .yeah, but. . .reining. . .
    Also, if you're a beginner going for a trail ride or your first lesson, don't go around watching these type of videos. For trails you literally need to know next to nothing and for your first lesson there will be a trainer there.
    Also, to everyone in the comment section, I know the video is inaccurate and cringe worthy but. . .jeez, get educated before you say anything.

      It is a endurance saddle a mix between English and western. You can use any pad but they do make saddle pad for this type of saddle. All her tack even helmet is endurance tack.

    • @the_weird_equestrian_perso3651
      @the_weird_equestrian_perso3651 5 лет назад +2

      태sthetic it’s actually not an English saddle pad and if it was so who cares

    • @dawndishsoap4744
      @dawndishsoap4744 5 лет назад +1

      Horsegirl9 it is an English saddle pad, it’s just a fitted pad. Like this one 👉 www.doversaddlery.com/medallion-super-quilt-pad/p/X1-19294/ . The reason why it does matter is because English saddles are made to fit the horses back a bit more, you tend to not need as much support under the saddle because of the fit, that’s why English pads are thinner. Western pads typically are thicker because the saddle is rougher on the horses back when not fitted with a thicker pad.

    • @the_weird_equestrian_perso3651
      @the_weird_equestrian_perso3651 5 лет назад

      Daw N actually they can be just as thick it depends on which one you get and it’s actually perfectly fine to have it! I’ve ridden my whole life and I’m 13 I know something!

    Guys, if you're looking to learn how to ride, stop watching RUclips and get yourself down to a riding stables. At the stables they will pair you up with a horse to suit your ability, so if you are a beginner they will give you an easier horse that won't bomb off with you if you kick it a little to hard. And this also gives you physical experince.Don't presume just because the horse is old it is easy to ride! My mare is 28 this year and can be pretty challenging at times... Ridden and not ridden!There is also no gaurentee you will never fall off a horse! It's bound to happen at some point if you stick with horse riding, so don't be scared of that, and enjoy!

      +tigerlily0190 It is too low. He shouldn't be chewing on it like that. It's clanking on is teeth. It also looks way to wide. I've been taught by multiple trainers that the wrinkle rule is a "general guideline" taught to beginners so they have a reference. Charlie's bit is definitely too low.

    • @tigerlily0190
      @tigerlily0190 8 лет назад +3

    i remember watching this video for when i first started horseriding!
    i have a favourite horse *angel* and at my barn you switch horse every lesson to get to know how to work with different breeds and personalities!
    last week i was on angel and i felt a little uneasy and that i was a bit high up because angel is big!
    But angel was having a fresh day so both of us were a bit scared
    So fast forward about 30 minutes into my lesson we had to canter so i had a nice trot and then sit trot and kicked and angel jolted forward and kept going while i was sitting on her neck because she threw me forward,i have been riding for a year and never once fell off!And i still have not fallen off yet.
    I was supposed to canter once more during the lesson but my instructor forgot!!!
    I have my next lesson today and i’m a little bit scared and i know i won’t be on her today but i’m just a little frightened
    my lesson is in 5 hours and i’m taking some time to look back on videos to refresh my memory and be confident again!
    So to any new riders out there,it doesn’t matter how long you have been riding you can still get frightened!But that’s how we learn and grow as a person❤️
    I’ll try my very hardest today and hopefully have a better day!
    Sometimes we all have off days!

    omfg wtf!!!?? For one she's wrong about the age of the horse. it's not about the age, it's about the temperament and training that horse has/had.
    The way she put the tack on it wrong. You're meant to put each individual item on separately and always check your tack.
    i can't believe she calls that a bridle. LMAO!!! It's funny, at the 3.09 mark she actually changed her so called bridle over to an actual bridle.
    The "horse" as she calls her MULE! is constantly chewing on the bit. that's one of many signs that the bit is ill fitted and is irritating the horse (MULE).
    WTF is with the stirrups???? 😂😂😂
    I've taught all different age groups and different disabilities to ride and tack up a horse and the way she rides and tacks up the "horse" (her Mule) i would never teach or let anyone ride or tack up like that.

      Krystal R-S your more annoying then becky not everyone rides the same way and you can leave the girth and stuff on. And mules are actually very good creatures. people who have them get attached and forget there not a horse, but you wouldn’t know of course because you obviously don’t have a mule! And that saddle is not western nor English so you wouldn’t know how to tack up with one of those saddles. Riding bitless is easier for you and your horse.
    1. Your horse won't try to raise his head when you are putting in a bit. (I know it can be fixed but it's because they don't like it)
    2. it doesn't hurt their mouth
    3. you don't have to worry about cleaning a bit after your done riding
    and there are so much more pros.
    I have been riding bitless for years and my horses love it and they listen good.

      I completely agree with you! I ride bitless and it works just as good if not better than a bit. I hate when people pull excuses to justify it like 'you could break their nose! You could break their jaw! You could do damage to nerves and cause paralysis!' Those excuses are all just total BS, you have to be pulling pretty dam hard to do that kind of damage

      People aren't trying to be mean, but she shouldn't be knowingly putting out videos of something she clearly knows nothing about. 95% of the things in this video is wrong, and if someone does decide to follow this it could lead to a very unhappy horse, and injured rider, because not every horse has the patience of a saint like the mule in this video.

    My son just got out of the hospital after a 11 day ICU stay. Fell off a horse, hit his head on a root and was air lifted. He did not have on a helmet and could have had a fa more serious brain injury. the bleed is still being monitored and out patient therapy will be required to get him fully back to his old self. I like your helmet with the brim. It has me thinking perhaps there are more inventive helmet options out there than was available in the 80s.

    Love your video. Some horses do not listen as good as your's does when your are beginner rider. The one I ride plays tricks on me and I try and make him walk faster - but he just ignores me - and he can be difficult to turn (sometimes). When the owner/trainer comes - then the horse does what I say. The owner says I am not firm enough. But I love riding anyway(beginner).

    Becky I've taken riding lessons for a while now and here's what I have to say:
    1. That bit kind of looks like it doesn't fit
    2. Ur right that u shouldn't kick a horse to make it walk, though depends on how hard u squeeze.
    3. The best advice for people who want to ride is to just go take riding lessons

    Becky, thank you so much for sharing your videos!!! I'm sure I don't have to tell you not to let the mean nasty comments get to you. I wish people would think about the way they express themselves. If they thought you were teaching something wrong then I don't know why they couldn't have expressed themselves in a more polite way. Example- Hi Becky, I noticed in the video that the bit didn't appear to fit properly. Have you ever considered going bit-less? ….Constructive criticism with manners, please people. I just couldn't believe how many judgmental and rude comments people made. It's sad. I really enjoy your videos!! Thanks to you I'm looking to start my own homestead here in Washington. Listening to you tell us about how you got started really inspired me. I'm following some other youtubers as I listen and learn so that I can find MY way "home." We're all different. We have different ideas about the way we think things should be done. Does that mean my way is the right way...it might be right for me but to someone else it might not be the right way for them. Your heart is in the right place. I hope you will keep making these videos so we can all learn from each other and hopefully lift each other up. You're a sweetheart!
    Bless your heart Becky! : )

    First you take Sweetheart to the mounting block. Don't bother with tack. He has never been ridden in anything but a halter and lead rope. Give him a scratch and brush him. Lay across his back as you're brushing until he's quiet and relaxed. Keep brushing.down his opposite side. Since he is accepting your weight swing your leg over but don't sit up. Continue to scratch and brush. Speak softly to him giving him praise as you do all this. If he remains contented sit up slowly and scratch his neck. Rub and praise. Give a light squeeze with your legs and be prepared for him to head rapidly to the gate in hopes of a trail ride which he likes very much. Your legs and rope are your steering. Your legs are your accelerator. Your seat and his mane are your brakes. Good luck, because he's not broke to ride and I'm the only one who has ever been on him, but if you got this far he's the best most exciting ride you'll ever have if you're an adrenaline junkie. For the very experienced only. And do keep in mind that he's my spoiled little darling. Be sure to treat him accordingly

    She talks about the 2 girths ~ actually the second one is called the Cinch and on some saddles if this is done up too tight, that will make them buck ~ hence the reason they do this at rodeos ~ they tighten the cinch to make the buck.
