we have the same childhood dream im still a kid..i live in phillipines and my parents think i just got carried away in cartoos thats why i like horses..but fr me i love to learn how to ride.....
As someone whose been riding since I was 3 (my father started me on miniature ponies) and I’m 28 now, this is a good guide for people who’re new to interacting with and riding horses, the most important thing I tell people who ask me about horse riding is “remember that it’s a living creature with its own feelings, it’s not a vehicle, it’s your friend, treat it as such”. My family been riding horses both just for fun, but also for hunting and trekking through the woods for generations and we always prioritize the horses feelings over all else, to me, I treat all my horses like there my own children, give them love, attention, entertainment and fulfill all there physical and emotional needs. And bare in mind, I love in some pretty still wold country with lots of predators so I not only have to care for my horses, I have to protect them from bears, wolves, and on rare cases even mountain lions
Literally, Red Dead Redemption 2 has made me loves horses, I am fascinated with these animals now and hope to one day own or at least ride one, great video!
Ive ridden once, my back felt so good. Now that ive played rd2, i love horses even more. Planning to work like crazy so i can move to countryside and have a horse 🐎🤠
For all of you in these replys/ comments in general, I'd highly recommend going to farms or barns. My mother's saying is very true, and it goes "Horseless life is the easy life" They cost a shit ton, from food, to vet bills to care and new equipment. Here where I live we can rent horses, not sure about the us or where y'all live, but renting might be another great option if you want to get a feel for it. But yeah, think about it thoroughly, especially if you've only gotten a love for the animals recently (especially from a game) ^^
But they have plenty of horses where I live and it doesn't take long to drive to one because I've passed lots when in the backseat so I can easily steal one- Ima have to stick with Breyers and Model Horses-
I never thought riding a horse could be so beautiful and elegant! The training was difficult, but with each lesson I feel my connection to the horse grow stronger. It really is an amazing experience and I highly recommend everyone to try it!
Excuse me for asking but don’t some saddles come with a protruding handle in the front of some sort so that you can easily hold and climb up? Like in some cowboy movies
Even if you are a male over 6 feet tall? I wanna try it so bad since I was a child but I am a big guy. There is also the perception that riding is for small girls and young women, at least where I come from.
With all due respect to my teachers, I wish they would explained it the way you did. I guess with being new to riding they think I might not last, but I have every desire to. So thank you, I will continue to watch

Beginner rider here. Have my first lesson in riding a horse next week so I prepare mentally for that by watching horse trainers and riding instructor videos.
@@Alyssa-sy3om Oh it was so good! I had a lot of fears to overcome but the instructor was wonderful, we talked through a lot of the fear and the beautiful horse, a young 4 yo OTTB, was very sweet and let out a big sigh while I was talking and it just made me feel so reassured that he was feeling me and ok that I was on him, and understanding that I was anxious but was cool about it .. I rode carefully around for nearly an hour and by then my legs were jelly 😂😂😂.. so sore the next day but now I feel really good and really keen to go again 🥰 thanks for asking x

Hi There! As a beginner, I like to return to this video so I can still make a mental note of the basics when I am not riding, it is such a great video and easily demonstrated. So thank you again. Chris
I love this video so much! I have been riding for almost 12 years and you are definitely teaching the right way of riding keep it up! I love how you are not teaching any lazy methods of riding such as kiking, and whipping the horse to go, Start by gaining muscle!

I am going to start riding lessons. tomorrow after over 30 years without horses. Your video has been a great refresher so that hopefully my teacher won't think I'm a dummy, lol. ( 40 years ago I was an instructor myself)
Pleasant easy to understand and follow, too many instructors unnecessarily over do the explanation and leave the student confused when it could have been so much better.
Chris Halliwell Western is a bit easier, and you only have to have the reins in one hand, unlike English, in which you have to have one rein in each hand. In my opinion it’s better to start off riding western since the saddle is bigger, making it less of a task to balance. There are some other more detailed factors, but overall, that’s why I’d recommend western. At least for a beginner anyway.
I’ve wanted to ride a horse since I was 5 years old and I still haven’t but I’m just here to see the horses and when I live by myself to know how to ride
Thanks for this video. I am about to take my wife, son and daughter horseback riding for the first time. My son is on the spectrum, and your video helped ease his mind about going! My wife and daughter feel better about it as well. Your relationship with your horses is obviously outstanding, and my daughter, who just read "Black Beauty" commented on that.
I felt set up for failure at whatever riding school my mom took me to as a kid. They put me on the WORST horse. It wouldnt listen and was known to be spooked. I wanna get back into this and youre videos have been helpful. I pray i find the right instructor for me.
Absolutely fantastic video! I started riding lessons a couple of days ago, and while there are some differences since my instructor is starting me with western riding, your videos have still helped me significantly. It's a rather unusual activity for someone like me to get into, but I really enjoy it a lot. Keep up the fantastic work!
@@JSHorsemanship I've finished my second lesson today and am really enjoying it. My instructor says I'm doing really good, and I wish I could do it everyday! I think it'll be something fantastic to look forward to over this summer especially after those long marching band rehearsals!
How's riding a year later? I've been riding for 5/6 months as English and have been around the barn for longer. I love riding and am always at the barn whenever I can be!
@@Ironsmithfarm The two legs have totally different tasks. The inner leg (left) sends the inner hindleg more forward and transfers the weight to the outer hindleg of the horse so that the outer hindleg stays longer on the ground and the inner hindleg might step forward. This creates the bend. The outer leg of the rider limits the swing of the outer hindleg out of the bend. In other words: the outer leg guards (closes the door). The inner leg activates. Now horse is a part of the equation. Horses learn. They can be taught to initiate the turn from a touch with the inner leg or the outer leg, or from either leg, getting the rest of the information from the seat of the rider. So there are infinitely many variations of how you can turn a horse. However, if you want the universal language, if you want to be as clear as possible to the horse and help him do what you want to do, you activate with your inner leg and guard with the outer leg, and you do it in a calm, supple, balanced fashion, feeling how much information this particular horse needs in order to produce a nice correct turn :)
Love the content of your videos as always. I've just started riding about 2 months ago, twice per week. I find that your videos are very informative . Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing
I don’t ride at all, but I’m an actor and have an audition in the morning for a role that requires some basic riding. This video was incredibly helpful just to gain some insight into what goes into the basics of riding. You’re a fantastic presenter, too. Thanks 🙏💛 🐎
Thank you so much for this video, I'm going horse riding tomorrow and I'm kinda nervous but this video calmed me down and now I know how to be proper about it❤
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen on any topic! Clear, concise, with a beautifully calming voice. Thank you for all the care and energy you put into this video. 😀
Thank you, great advice. Getting back into riding after 20 year break. I get so so confused sometimes, everyone has "their way". I'm trying to make sense of it all. I need help! Lol Looking forward to following your videos! 🤠
I know abaut horses since i was 4, one time a horse started galoping and the owner of the horse wasnt waching and i calmed him down, it was a beatufill moment that got me into riding
i already knew all of these bascis, but i still watched it and realised i never actually tried steering without reins. i will make sure to try it. Thanks!
I had a horse a few years ago who I used to ride a lot. Sadly, she ended up dying and I lost the spirit of riding, but recently, my grandmother-in-law said she would take me in from my abusive home. She did a lot of riding and she has a horse herself and I was hoping to try and do riding again. So this video helped a lot, not only with the basics or riding, but to bring back the cowgirl in me. Thank you!!!
Ok so with the steering, another good way (this is what i have been taught) is if you wanted to turn left for example, you would kind of "open a door" and pull the left rein out, and keep the right rein inwards. I dont know if that would help, but it is much easier.
I just got to ride my horse by myself alone in the country where I live witch is in the middle of nowhere on a old dirt road and I just got him 3 days ago and never rode him alone and It was fun oh and I'm only 12 years old
You say so mouch things!...I didnt knew it...in Equestrian schools they didnt say those, only ''Kick the horse'!!!'..without respect and only fear to this beautiful creature! Thank you!!!
yes the first three times I got on a horse they put me on and slapped the horses rear end .. it was disasterous for me and Im sure the horse didnt get much joy either .. so now we start at the beginning at age 54
It is actually difficult to teach. Teaching beginners on perfectly trained horses can be incredibly expensive since you can only have the perfectly responding horse for very few lessons in a week, so you would need to charge incredible amounts for a single lesson. So lesson horses give lessons all the time, and the instructor needs the poor lesson horse to move to whoever the given beginner is. So the instructor is forced to ask the student to kick the horse, even if his heart bleeds for the mount.
I am so thankful for this video even though I'm not riding horses *Yet* It's just giving me so many tips and things like holding the reins like if you were holding a ice cream cone, And then Opening the door where you want your horse to go! Its a great video and step by step!! Thank you for this! It really helped!
this is a huge help! I started riding at a very young age, but after an accident involving one of my mares i found myself unable to get back on for years. I have gotten back into it over the past two years and recently have been looking for my own horse. Im worried that i will hurt the horse if i am not fully familiar with riding correctly, which is why I find your videos so helpful.

Hi😀
Thank you for the kind words and support! I’m so glad you are finding the videos helpful. I hope you continue to enjoy your horsemanship journey!🐴
@@JSHorsemanship I've finished my second lesson today and am really enjoying it. My instructor says I'm doing really good, and I wish I could do it everyday! I think it'll be something fantastic to look forward to over this summer especially after those long marching band rehearsals!

Hello Tamara how’s the weather over there
just about to go out ringing, and just learnt that ill mainly be mustering on a horse, so here I am learning the basics
Steering making sense. I will try that closing the door analogy . Brilliant thank you
She actually got it backwards. When you want to turn left, you close your left leg on the horse, not the right. And vice versa.
Thank you so much for the positivity and support😊
I don’t ride at all, but I’m an actor and have an audition in the morning for a role that requires some basic riding. This video was incredibly helpful just to gain some insight into what goes into the basics of riding. You’re a fantastic presenter, too. Thanks 🙏💛 🐎
Hello Jeff how’s the weather over there
Thank you, lovely video to share with some of my RD group that due to confinement and lockdowns can not come to the stables .
Hello Lorraine how’s the weather over there
Thank you so much for this video, I'm going horse riding tomorrow and I'm kinda nervous but this video calmed me down and now I know how to be proper about it❤
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen on any topic! Clear, concise, with a beautifully calming voice. Thank you for all the care and energy you put into this video. 😀
Hello Amy how’s the weather over there
Thank you, great advice. Getting back into riding after 20 year break. I get so so confused sometimes, everyone has "their way". I'm trying to make sense of it all. I need help! Lol Looking forward to following your videos! 🤠
I’m so glad the video was a help❤️
Getting back into horse can definitely have its challenges. I hope you have fun learning and growing🐴
Hello Katrina how’s the weather over there
i want to get a horse so i can pat him and say "its ok boah"
“Woahhh naw hold your horses”
"Easyyyyy boah. Good boah."
"You alright, boy."
"Lets go, boah."
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH
I know abaut horses since i was 4, one time a horse started galoping and the owner of the horse wasnt waching and i calmed him down, it was a beatufill moment that got me into riding
i already knew all of these bascis, but i still watched it and realised i never actually tried steering without reins. i will make sure to try it. Thanks!
9:12 that's a cute horse. You look like a princess there ❤️
I always talk to my horse when grooming and tacking on, lunging, riding, doing a comp. I just like talking to him 😂
I’m taking my first lessons soon!
Thank you alot! My brother wants to try riding for the first time and I'm sure this will help him a bunch!
Hi😊
Thank you for sharing💕 I’m so glad you are back on the path to pursuing your passion.❤️🐎
Ok so with the steering, another good way (this is what i have been taught) is if you wanted to turn left for example, you would kind of "open a door" and pull the left rein out, and keep the right rein inwards. I dont know if that would help, but it is much easier.
I just got to ride my horse by myself alone in the country where I live witch is in the middle of nowhere on a old dirt road and I just got him 3 days ago and never rode him alone and It was fun oh and I'm only 12 years old
Wow that’s amazing
Stop the cap
This really helped me thanks :)
At least I’m not the the only roblox youtuber that rides a horse! ( I know there is more people )
My mum use to be my instructor for a bit but then I stoped riding and now here I am wanting to get back on to my horses
Hello Victoria how’s the weather over there
Thank u so much I was so nervous to do horses riding but now I feel comfortable
Me after watching this video: babe, we’re buying a ranch and a horsey (imma call him lightning)! 😂

I watched this with my Gelding while I tacked him up and then went on a ride :)
