  • Never heard of it? Well, that's a pity as it may be cheap but it's also got a lot of style and character. Mat and Harry are put on the spot and are given an hour to review two bikes about which they know nothing. The chances of it coming off are remote.....

    I've owned one for about 5 years and it is the best runabout I have owned ever. The bike actually originated from Honda's CB400SS that is now built by Shineray in China. 2023 models are DFI. It is a pity the South African riders did not take to these in hordes and now they are not imported anymore. Fantastic bikes - Solid, Fun, quick and nimble. 300km range.

    These bikes are so reminiscent of the mid-'70s Japanese machines that sold in huge numbers then and were the bread-and-butter machines leading to the higher class offerings to come later. I recall the Honda 350s and 360s, Kawasaki KZ-400s, Suzuki GS-400s and whatever Yamaha had in that range being so usable and easy to own and maintain. These Crosby machines seem to be a great reflection of that era that made the '70s such a great wave of sales and interest in bikes.

    You guys are making great videos. So much fun to watch. One of the best RUclips channels about motorcycling.

    Over here in the UK this bike (called a Mash 400) in both it's roadster & scrambler versions is deemed to be every bit as good as the guys in the video say it is, probably better. The build quality is very good, solid and well finished. They seem to stand up to our winter weather ok. They have proved themselves to be reliable in the 4 years they have been on sale over here. They go & handle very well indeed too with good rider comfort. The brakes seem to take around 800 to 1000 miles to bed in then they are more than good enough to haul it to a stop in short order. One point, the engines on all the Mash 400 bikes that I've ridden have the 28hp engine fitted. NOT a 26hp unit. This may just be a South African anomaly but everywhere else they are definitely 28hp. Or it could have just been a typo on the paperwork the guys in the video were given. I've not stripped one of the engines yet as it hasn't been needed but parts shouldn't be an issue. All in all I'd say this video is a good reflection of how good these bikes are.

      I guess UK fuel Injection gives that extra 2 bhp... Surprised a carb was on it this day and age.
      I have a Mash TT 40 and even though it's just under 30 ponies,it is a very peppy power delivery.and geared very nicely for most riding speeds within the speed limits.great appraisal here

    Think these are sold as Mash in the U.K & France. Nice bike with fantastic looks but I found the front disc terrible. Maybe needed bedding in or a steel brake line. Engine is based on a Honda 500 single from XBR500 / GB500 TT circa 1985. Great street posing bike.

      The whole bike is a Honda CB400SS - Taken over by Shineray from Honda. Indeed doing well in EU as Mash.

    So, are you going to do a shootout between the Crosby TT400 and a Royal Enfield? China vs India, would make for an interesting comparison. Similar pricing, similar engines, similar styling. Big difference may come in with Royal Enfield being an established, almost legendary brand in Asia with decades of production refinement, and good local dealer support in SA.

    • @AMDP65
      @AMDP65 7 месяцев назад

      The Shineray is much lighter and faster than the dog slow 500 Bullet. I've ridden them back to back and decided on the Crosby. I'm not sorry as I ride it nearly every day. (2017 current)

    They've gone up quite a bit in price, used to be advertised for under 40k Rand last year? I've been to the shop and they had a used one that didn't look like it was wearing very well. Any reason the kick start was missing on the road bike?

    Hmm. This is the Sol Invictus Nemesis in Australia. They're $7k rideaway. Same money as a new Suzuki TU250X, or a second hand Yamaha SR400. Except the second you buy one, it'll be worth half as much because at the end of the day, it's a Chinese no-name. It's actually more money than a Royal Enfield Classic 350 too, if you were a sucker for something badly built that you'll have trouble getting repaired. If it were me, I'd get a second hand SR400.

    It's even cheaper here in China, about 3500 AUD. I hesitate to buy them though as Shinnray, the factory that build them are not known for their reliability.

    How similar are these bikes to the French assembled MASH models do you think?

    • @therealunclevanya
      @therealunclevanya 6 лет назад

      The MASH is built in China as well with just a few minor changes but it does have the Euro4 ABS (front brake only as rear is a drum) and Fuel Injection. Looks like the same bike to me.

    Engine looks Honda, any idea where they came from?

    • @clasqm
      @clasqm 7 лет назад

      Yes, It is a Honda knockoff, probably made by Shineray. They are called Mash in the UK and Invictus in Australia. The Chinese care about shipping volume, not so much about brand-building, so they let each importer stick their own badge on the tank.

      honda xbr engine made by the same factory that made them for honda

    • @strawdog9964
      @strawdog9964 5 лет назад

      The engine is a clone of a honda xbr 500 engine with a smaller bore,these bikes are sold as MASH in europe.They're bringing out a 650 model soon,engine is basically a honda dominator 650.

    Love everything about them..minus the two cylinder look for a single cylinder bike. That is pathetic, and would most likely keep me from buying one. Too bad though. They do seem cool :)

      yamaha does that with the rebel still doen´t it? the fake second exhaust. Fake exhaust look aweful on a car, but on a bike is definitely a deal breaker. They wouldn´t really buy one lol, it was just a big old advert

    • @whalesong999
      @whalesong999 6 лет назад +1

      Funny how values can sway. Kawasaki had a 400cc twin in the '70s that had a two-into-one exhaust system to help bring it's cost down below $1k back in the day. Kind of wish they were still around, very solid value and stone reliable.

    • @clanmac66
      @clanmac66 6 лет назад

      Sinnis/Herald/Bulliut don't do 400cc in fact some have stopped 250 due to 2018 Euro 4 compliance. Mash do do a 400cc but at 4k+ I would hardly call it budget!
