This. Fans can choose to interpret their relationship as platonic or romantic, brotherly or sexual, but what is NEVER IN QUESTION is that these two love each other more than anything.
I know it's a deleted scene but I think they should have left in the scene where Arthur gave his mother's sigil to Merlin. They could have had old Merlin wearing it in the final scene when he passes by Arthur's resting place. It would have added even more meaning to it.

Because I watched Merlin when I was so young I didn't know what shipping was so I never thought of them as a couple but I wad very invested in their friendship. Even now because I saw them that way for so long I still can't ship them like I do Gwen and Arthur but I've always felt that Merlin and Arthur's friendship was the strongest relationship in the show even though I never saw it as romantic. I see them as platonic soulmates but I do understand why people ship them.
I though surely you would include the scene in Merlin's home village, to where Arthur has come to join Merlin in helping Merlin's mother and the companions of his childhood. Merlin and Arthur bed down for the night next to each other head to toe and Arthur tickles Merlin's face with his bare foot. Within the larger storyline of an episode that shines full light on Arthur's devotion to Merlin, It was a small moment that captured one of the most unselfconsciously loving gestures I've ever seen on screen. In its own quiet way, it seared itself into my memory just as much as the glorious and devastating scene of Arthur's death in Merlin's arms.
i feel like arthur just thinks he loves gwen because she was the only women he actually cared about, and because in the medieval times people weren't out in the lgbtq yet he went on with it. arthur's love for merlin is above and beyond (vise versa).
Yes sadly, there was practically no LGBTQ representation or even slight example that two men or two women can be in love in their time so Arthur and Merlin most likely didnt understand and didnt know how to describe their feelings for each other and how to label it and the only way they could was saying they are dear friends and they dont want to lose each other, sadly I understand this even thou I was raised in the US but I was raised with the mindset that LGBTQ is not real, not natural, impossible even and an abomination and my first kiss was with a girl, (btw I am a girl) and back then I didnt even count it as something romantic or crush type of thing cause of the thought that kissing a girl and feeling something afterwards is impossible and doesnt happen but now after several years, I finally understood it thanks to represation and true life LGBTQ stories and accepted that I am Bi I realize now that I actually felt something very beautiful when I kissed her but that feeling was automatically covered and paralyzed with impossibility and even the feeling that what I did was against human existence and against my own species. It breaks my heart that's what I thought after kissing her 😢 imagine if Arthur kissed Merlin its heartbreaking to think that how he would feel afterwards especially in the world they live in is he would probs feel like he betrayed his own kind, instead of actually feeling satisfied and even more love for Merlin if he kissed him. Thats why I will forever love that phrase Arthur says when in that one moment where Merlin tells Author he's in love and Merlin asks Author why he doesn't want to persue that love and Arthur says "Because I dont want to admit to something that I cant have, something that can never happen" (and I know in the show he was talking abt "Gwen") But I know for sure that the writers were hinting at Arthur's viewpoint on admitting his feelings for Merlin. Which is why he never allowed himself to even admit it to himself cause of the mindset that its impossible and will never happen. People who say that being part of LGBTQ is a choice are so delusional asf because they have no frik idea how much courage we need to have to even accept it towards ourselves being gay or bi, trans, let alone let other humans know about it, even though I accepted it abt myself but now I sometimes wish I wasn't bi because I am surrounded by family and friends that dont understand this type of love and they are not homophobic, they just dont understand and I dont blame them since they were raised and had their mind be severely forced to believe that LGBTQ is impossible and unnatural. So as much as i love being bi, sometimes (crying right now) I wish wasn't, I want people who I love to see me be normal and not feel like I am an abomination, but then again I would rather them see the real me than the fake "normal" me. So Arthur and Merlin were in love but the beautiful thing is that even thou they lived in the world where love between two men is impossible/unnatural. Their love for each other still found ways to show it louder than any words could. It's a fairly common TV trope for the male lead to have an emotionally constipated best friend, someone who becomes very close over time, but not romantically, because the male lead would also have a female love interest, the unattainable girl they eventually win over and end up loving more than anything else. On TV, romantic love is very often depicted as the strongest type of love, as the most important and signficant. Consider, Merlin prioritizes Arthur above everyone and EVERYTHING. While Merlin meets and loses Freya quite suddenly, it is Arthur who pursues and wins the unattainable girl, who achieves that stereotypical great love. He does genuinely love Gwen. Yet we know as viewers that Merlin's love for Arthur is stronger than Gwen's because of just how much Merlin is willing to sacrifice for him. And we know that Arthur needs Merlin by his side more often than he needs Gwen. However, the extent of Arthur's feelings for Merlin is kind of unknown. We know he loves him as a best friend, as family, but we don't know if that would have translated to romantic love because the opportunity never presents itself. By the time Arthur was more comfortable having intimate moments with Merlin, Merlin was becoming withdrawn due to fear and paranoia. I believe we the fans will forever obsess over their relationship, what was, what might have been, and what could be if the series ever continued :)
As they get older Colin and Bradley will look back at these as being he happiest, most wonderful times of their lives, and their fans and admirers will forever appreciate the happiness and joy that they have given so freely
The last picture got me laughing so hard, I can imagine Katie being shocked completely and Morgana came back to life shouting: you are not putting that scene in the final cut!!!
I started watching this show a few days ago and I fell in love with it. I mean what’s not to like a fantasy medieval story with a hilarious master x servant relationship. I will admit I to in the past have been homophobic. Clearly I couldn’t see that a gay couple was presented and just shrugged it off. But then I soon started to realize that it was actually love. I support this whether romantic or platonic. I think that Merlin and Arthur were destined for each other as soulmates. Whether you think it’s platonic or not. I say love is love. I will admit my opinion that yes I do indeed ship these two. Perhaps my thinking is that they are soulmates because they care for one another that I think may not be as just friends. However, I think I’ve said enough. Everyone is valid to their own opinions and I respect that. Shipping is ok however, be careful not to get it to out of control. Anyways beautiful video made me laugh and honestly I just love seeing my two bois together. Thank you and have a wonderful day💙

i wish they'd done the gwen + lance thing but it would've been too complicated, also they would both be "betraying" arthur and the show wouldn't put merthur together anyways... so they killed lance off. but that's literally the only reason gwen is with arthur.
Hey I want to add more when the last battle arthur to face, he was so disappointed when merlin is wasn't on his side just like "Tf! Merlin this is probably my last battle you always there on my side then right now you chose to leave meeee" aaarghhhh
You remember when Arthur says something like "I always thought you were the bravest man I ever knew. I guess you're not as brave as I thought." Maybe second to last episode before he leaves for battle? But Merlin can't tell him the real reason why he isn't coming because then he would have to reveal his lies and possibly even that he has magic and that would not have been good. Little does Arthur know that Merlin is doing it for him! That scene made me cry so bad. 😭 I'm going to make myself cry again just writing this!
Oh please. The best evidence for Merthur has got to be the script for season 6 of Merlin. It's literally such a good script and I'm so sad it wasn't turned into a new season
A: I’ve been trainig to kill since birth. M: How long have you been training to be a prat, my Lord?? I could just not stop laughing when that scene came up!! 😂😂😂
You really had to make me cry with the fact that Merlin is STILL waiting for Arthur...... No but someone reminded me that Leon has to be immortal as well (cuz how the h3ll could he still be alive otherwise) so it's not as bad as it could be. Leon and Merlin have a little flat together and every evening they play that ridiculous dice game where Merlin cheats and then they go to sleep both missing people and crying.
ok, I'll admit that there's some homoeroticism in there, but the beginning was not at all flirting. That was weak. Everything else, though, I can see. I always thought of them as soul mates, but not in a romatic way. I think eroticism is just one of the better ways to depict intimacy on that level. Your lover isn't always your soulmate and your soulmate isn't always your lover. In this case, Merlin is Arthur's soulmate, but not his lover. So, I think Merther is canon on a spiritual level, but not on a romantic one.
Personally, I've always seen Arthur as a big brother to Merlin but I don't deny that they both love each other, but I believe it to be more brotherly love than as a couple. But everybody is entitled to their opinion, that is just my view.
Every time I see Merlin after his millennium wait, all I can think is. Have you never heard of shaving? Or do you look like Dumbledore for the aesthetic?
I mean after everything happened and the fact that Merlin has a beard in Disney and other versions I feel like that its supposed to be Ike that. But yep the first thing i thought was why are you not shaving
I've personally never agreed with Merlin & Arthur having some kind of "romantic" relation, it's always seemed platonic to me. Even after watching this video, I've yet to see any exchanges that can be seen as such without stretching the meaning.
Not being homophobic or whatsoever, this is the vibe that I could see between Arthur and Merlin. I have an older brother but growing up, we are not really close. I think Merlin filled Arthur's longing of a close/trusted friend/brother as he and Morgana have definitely a sour relationship as siblings.
This video confirms my thesis that men or women can have intimate same sex relationships without coitus, conigulis,or fellacio. A lot people would be set free to love others of the same sex to accept that.

I don't care if it's not even romantic. You cannot not convince me that their love for each other is pure and beautiful
His freaking dream was to run away with Merlin and get a farm
This. Fans can choose to interpret their relationship as platonic or romantic, brotherly or sexual, but what is NEVER IN QUESTION is that these two love each other more than anything.
I love how the scenes they deleted were cut because “nah, not even we can get away with stuff being that obviously gay”🤣🤣
I know it's a deleted scene but I think they should have left in the scene where Arthur gave his mother's sigil to Merlin. They could have had old Merlin wearing it in the final scene when he passes by Arthur's resting place. It would have added even more meaning to it.
we love to see merlin content in 2021
I'm surprised you didn't include the scene in Balinor's cave. Arthur says Merlin's name in his sleep and Merlin is like _Not in front of my dad, Arthur..._ 🤦🏻♂ Balinor looks really unconfortable lol

Good ones you missed for the other people noticing are the part where merlin and his mom are arguing over whether or not he came for Merlin and she says he likes you. Another one is the part is where Merlin tells a knight that he was teaching him poetry and as the knight is walking away he looks back at them and the expression on his face just makes me think he totally thinks they’re gay. Anyway there were other ones but other people can always look up more of these videos were other people have found similar things
Leon is like "Poetry? Is that what they call it these days?" xD
Poetry in those days was often secular/religious or about love.... so yeah. Men in love are probably the only times they attempted to learn.

honestly I never thought about it that way but damn you are so right!
I'd buy it. Good way to work out frustration in the beginning (they sure got frustrated a lot), turned into something else.
Just wish we could've gotten at least a glimpse of it, like something more explicit (not much tho, just enough like a little bit of seasoning).
Breaks my heart to see present merlin passing by where arthur remains
the writers really said, "we're gonna write these two so gay. so very gay"
1:03 is the best line of the entire series! The moment I sold my soul
i don't know why i'm here. After seeing so many methur crack videos or them being chaotic, I've been shipping them ever since.
The actors shipped them. Heck the director practically shipped them too🤣🤣
I though surely you would include the scene in Merlin's home village, to where Arthur has come to join Merlin in helping Merlin's mother and the companions of his childhood.
So I think even thou we never got them to kiss and marry and even say they love each other but to see their love thrive in the way it did during that oblivious medival time makes me so freaken grateful bruh 😭❤🌈 and the "Just hold me, please" phrase and scene is their "I love you" moment
Merlin fandom shall never die
As they get older Colin and Bradley will look back at these as being he happiest, most wonderful times of their lives, and their fans and admirers will forever appreciate the happiness and joy that they have given so freely
Hands down one of my favorite shows to go back & rewatch now & then.
They're so cute you guys

The ending of the show could be so much better if they included scene where Merlin meets new reborn Arthur after 1000 years of waiting 🥺
Personally, I've always seen Arthur as a big brother to Merlin but I don't deny that they both love each other, but I believe it to be more brotherly love than as a couple. But everybody is entitled to their opinion, that is just my view.

Their relationship is one of those “just because you love them doesn’t mean you have to date them”
Every time I see Merlin after his millennium wait, all I can think is. Have you never heard of shaving? Or do you look like Dumbledore for the aesthetic?
I mean after everything happened and the fact that Merlin has a beard in Disney and other versions I feel like that its supposed to be
Ike that. But yep the first thing i thought was why are you not shaving
I've personally never agreed with Merlin & Arthur having some kind of "romantic" relation, it's always seemed platonic to me. Even after watching this video, I've yet to see any exchanges that can be seen as such without stretching the meaning.
That’s because it’s two guys. If one was a woman you would say different.

Arthur exudes this older brother vibes..
Yes sadly, there was practically no LGBTQ representation or even slight example that two men or two women can be in love in their time so Arthur and Merlin most likely didnt understand and didnt know how to describe their feelings for each other and how to label it and the only way they could was saying they are dear friends and they dont want to lose each other, sadly I understand this even thou I was raised in the US but I was raised with the mindset that LGBTQ is not real, not natural, impossible even and an abomination and my first kiss was with a girl, (btw I am a girl) and back then I didnt even count it as something romantic or crush type of thing cause of the thought that kissing a girl and feeling something afterwards is impossible and doesnt happen but now after several years, I finally understood it thanks to represation and true life LGBTQ stories and accepted that I am Bi I realize now that I actually felt something very beautiful when I kissed her but that feeling was automatically covered and paralyzed with impossibility and even the feeling that what I did was against human existence and against my own species. can anyone tell me why Gwen and Arthur didn't have a child in the serie? it's been a long time between the moment when they got married and the death of Arthur.. it just makes me wonder why
I think that in Arturian legends Arthur can't have a child.
@@kuina5169 I assume one of them must be unable to have children, too. Four years married, with no contraception - most couples in medieval England would have had at least one, but more likely two or three, offspring by then.
I think we could justify it in the show by this: Uther and his wife couldn't have kids and asked for Nimueh's help. Maybe it runs in the family.
In the Arthurian legends Gwinevere is probably the one who can't have a child. According to many sources Mordred is the son of Arthur and Morgana (who are half siblings, I know, but in the myth Arthur or both of them didn't know), which of course would mean that Arthur can have children.
@@vhimeras8030 i read mordred's mother was morgause but some have morgana
