Final Fantasy 14 Tips on catching the Titanic Sawfish

- Relatively common knowledge is that Cape West Wind houses the Titanic Sawfish. Less known is how to actually catch it. While the in game quest simply tells you to take a Lug Worm, catch a premium Goby, mooch that to catch a premium Wahoo and then land the elusive Titanic Sawfish. This video outlines things you need to know if you have been unsuccessful in catching it so far.
I am now considering this quest to be part of the 2020 calamities.

I stopped playing ff a couple of months after flying was introduced. Some friends were playing something else and this quest was the last thing I was working on when I stopped.
I just restarted, so two xpacs later and I still can't get this thing.
I'm looking at your stats and mine are higher. Gathering 576 and perception 478. I just don't get it lol

I got 463 gathering and 376 perception on my level 60 fisher and im using right time, weather, and place and iv gone thru about 400 lugworms and havnt caught it yet
It was a total pain to do the first time. I don't know if they patched the game or increased requirements for it. I do know that by the time I quit playing that new gear had come out which should have made it easier to catch but I never got around to getting it.

I'm wearing all 50 Fish gear either Forager or Fisher gear with 3x Perception IV materia on chest, using Halcyon rod
Gathering 244 Perception 206 and I ate a Jack o' Lantern
Roughly 3.5 hour grind altogether, caught him after the 2 mooches at 2:04pm server time
So all that gear you have is already overkill for what you need to catch it so I don't see how you haven't caught it

I have heard that it can be caught with a 290 gathering but its a very low chance of landing it. I caught it my first time with about 305 gathering but that took me almost a month. Since I have upgraded and melded the fisher's gear I have been able to catch one a day (real world time). If you could manage to get the Gatherer's Gear you might get one easier but it can be done with Maxed out normal gear and some Spinache Quiche food.
I am new to ffxiv, have fishing at 55, I have sneak, but how did you get "invisible" (or is it hide?) as a fisherman?

@@madcatneon2604 the silly thing about Pirates Bane is that the description says "a king among Titanic Saws" so its technically a Titanic Saw but they wont accept it. 😭
Good video, good summary of the relevant facts and figures associated with the Titanic Sawfish...I, myself, use Rat Tails, I have slightly better accessories than the video maker, with fully melded materia on all gear, and have yet to catch this fish under the proper conditions. This fish WILL frustrate you (unless you're one of the lucky ones), so be prepared for a long grind.
While there is no set gathering/perception requirements for this fish, it is recommended that you have a fully melded gearset, as the added chance to catch High Quality Goby's will save you a tremendous amount of time on this farm. One thing I will dispute the video maker on is his choice of food. With 2.4, Haddock Dip has been introduced which gives you a +22 perception boost, vs. the +10 from the Spinach Quiche. That being said, the Dip doesnt give you Gathering Skill, so if youre gathering is a bit low (anything under 295) use the Quiche. With fully melded gear, youll be at 313 Gathering, 269 Perception, so any boost to Perception at this point will be much more beneficial than gathering. The more HQ catches = the more mooches = the more chances at double mooch Titanic Sawfish.
Be prepared to stockpile a lot of Sharks for your Culinary Desynth/MB sales :P Great video!
I catch one about every 2 in game days. So once every 2 hours or so. After making this video I have found that without the max stats that I was able to get with the Spinach Quiche, I am unable to catch this fish. Perception plays a huge part in even landing a chance at getting it.
Thank you i don't know of any other links with a video on swordfish. as i all ready was trying to meld my fishing guild because of the 154 gathering rate ever since start to level 50.seeing that gathering rate was some how controlable by looking at the stats on clothing and some food has gathering bonuses eg pie. i was able to work out that the clothes had some thing to do with the rate.then the melding of gathering guild materia with +5 bonuses .only i could find out the way on all crafting guilds was to just get in to them until level 50 on most there was no easy way of just buying gear with out the meld to.now since crafting fishing cloths with leather worker i found that i need weaver guild for the next competion level of 400 to 450 legends of three lands.the bait was another issue with the only video i found on the legends of ........... on utube it was grate how they court them all but they forgot the type of bait.

It really is that annoying! From my experience though, you can get a nice chunk of change for that fish though. But the premium one makes no difference for the quest, unlike the daily provisioning for the Grand Company. You have to figure that people only ever need to catch one to complete the quest, the demand for that fish could drop quickly, so I would suggest turning that one in and if you are feeling patient and lucky, then go catch another one for the market board.

I hate how my voice sounds which is why I haven't made any more videos. Also, Kudos to you for knowing the actual title of the song in the video. I still think back to 7th grade when I finally made it to Sephiroth for the first time. That song looped for over an hour before I was able to finally bring him down. Though experience I have finally gotten to the point where I can take him down in 10 minutes or so. So my hat is off to you, a true FF fan.

What is the bare minimum for this fish my gathering is 290, and it said that my gathering was still too low.
FDA Noir I swore that I already responded to this comment but it does not show. I am not a big fan of how RUclips handles the comments section. From what I heard, 290 was bare minimum. My gathering was just a little over 300 when I caught my first one,.
FDA Noir On some forums i have seen people landing the Titanic Sawfish with a gathering of 267 and a perception of 188. Also a nice note to add is when you don't want to drag around to much lugworm's, you can try to use Floating Minnow which also give a 100% catch rate on the Goby, just like the lugworm's.
You can catch them with a lot of bait but Rat Tails were the best catch ratio for me. The minnow and lugworms never bore fruit.
Who knows how much gathering it requires?? Today after 2 weeks of trying ive hooked it but then that not enough gathering thing came out. 336 gathering
I did it at 313 gathering but that was many years ago. Not sure what it has been changed to in any of the patches since.

ShePlaysIt That is great. As I said in my video, you will jump for joy! It was so annoying to get the first one. After that the game just seems to let you catch as many as you want. It is kind of messed up!

ShePlaysIt I spent months trying to collect every fish and then finally said screw it. With each update their comes a need to get the newest gear to get the new fish. That process alone takes forever. After 7 months of FF14, I finally just cancelled my subscription and moved on to new things. But seriously, good luck if you want to catch even bigger fish!

I caught it on my first cast. LMAO!!! I spent a half an hour making food and gathering. I used a lugworm. Stats: Gathering 302 and Perception 247 (after I ate an HQ tomato pie).
Update for all the patches
I have not played this game in almost 2 years. Which is about how long it has been since I have done any videos. :( None of the newer games that have come out have been worth doing, sadly. Been playing a lot of tower defense games and games like Ark and 7 Days to Die but RUclips is flooded with videos of those already. Dying Light is the only truly good new game I have seen in the last few years. Actually, it is possibly the best game to come out in the last 10 years, so if you have not tried that yet, get it on Steam or PS4. You won't regret it!

Congrats! I remember trying for weeks to get it. Finally after leveling and crafting and a lot of attempts being so thrilled when I finally got it.
