Hi guys wow what a wonderful weekend full of entertainment and interesting things to see. We have a thing here in South Australia every year called the the Royal Adelaide show it go's for a week once a year and is full of interesting things to see, great food and entertainment and fireworks. Like you we always get exited as it gets closer and always come home with lots of goodies, especially show bags chock full of lollies and chocolate. Once again it's lovely seeing the canal boat community getting together and having fun. You have such a wonderful life. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Alison, it was lovely seeing you both at the show! It’s surprising how often I’ve used that pacing method, and for me, just normal walking it’s always 26 paces. Hope you’re both well, I caught COVID somehow at the show and went down with it on Thursday, hopefully it’ll bog off soon, nasty virus! Hope we get to meet up on the cut soon xx
Morning both, Blooming COVID!!!! Nasty virus, I had it last year just before by first grandchild was born, luckily it passed so I could have a good snuggle with him!!! We are 28 paces have passed this onto other boaters as it works, telling them that you gave me the idea! I am at home now as gave to go back to work tomorrow! That embroidery was amazing, all done by a computer?? Those old work boats were amazing, approximately how long are they?? 50’ or more?? Those floating houses, are they house boats like we have on our Murray River and some of our lakes, like Lake Eildon in Australia🇦🇺 or just floating houses?? You certainly have a lot of friends with house boats.
Hi David, yes, the embroidery is all done by computer, it’s fascinating to watch! We love the old work boats, in fact we are going to an historic boat rally in a few week’s time so you will see them again in a future vlog. The old working boats are usually around 70’ so they can carry maximum load and the small workman cabin is where families would live. The floating homes are just that, floating houses, no engines, so once in place, they just stay there. The boating community is amazing, we have so many friends now since living on a boat, it’s fantastic! Thanks David xx

Hi Peter, thank you, we are mostly! Of course, as with everything, there are always downsides, but we think that the pros outweigh the cons! Negatives would be; Having to dispose of your own toilet waste, cassettes toilets need emptying every few days so people usually store 2-3 cassettes onboard. We have a pumpout loo which needs emptying every 3-4 weeks, the tank is under our bed lol (no smell). Having to always make sure you have water! Having to store your rubbish until you get to the next refuse point, can sometimes be a few weeks. Having to make sure you have enough diesel/coal etc, you can get frozen in (we happen to love that lol) Having to move every 14 days, sometimes in bad weather, you have to move if your time on a mooring is up, so can end up cruising and working locks in all weathers! Being far from family takes some getting used to, but with mobile phones, FaceTime etc, and social media, you can keep up with family really easily. We don’t mind any of these, we plan our routes and days around the services, especially in the winter. We were going to be cruising on Sunday, but have now decided to stay put, as there’s a storm coming in and we are near to the services, just in case it snows! There is always a work-around for anything negative, we’ve done this now for 3 years and are thoroughly enjoying it! Hope this helps Peter! xx

Ah brilliant video, we were going to come down on Monday, but it said you had to book to view boats, so we didn’t want to drive all that way not to be able to get on the boats and view

Enjoyed your he video , quite an event and a good turn out , it’s obviously a tight knit community and a very sociable bunch , ( don’t know if bunch is the correct name for a gathering of boaters ) and it’s supported well by vendors / suppliers,
I got Covid on 4th ofJune and still coughing , first time for me but it’s kind of rife again out here in Thailand, my partner is a teacher so it’s never really gone at school, just keeps doing the rounds ,

Julie and Martin … you both seem very positive people … but are there any negatives to Narrow-boating … ?? … 🔆🔆🔆
Hi Peter, thank you, we are mostly! Of course, as with everything, there are always downsides, but we think that the pros outweigh the cons!
Negatives would be;
Having to dispose of your own toilet waste, cassettes toilets need emptying every few days so people usually store 2-3 cassettes onboard. We have a pumpout loo which needs emptying every 3-4 weeks, the tank is under our bed lol (no smell).
Having to always make sure you have
water!
Having to store your rubbish until you get to the next refuse point, can sometimes be a few weeks.
Having to make sure you have enough diesel/coal etc, you can get frozen in (we happen to love that lol)
Having to move every 14 days, sometimes in bad weather, you have to move if your time on a mooring is up, so can end up cruising and working locks in all weathers!
Being far from family takes some getting used to, but with mobile phones, FaceTime etc, and social media, you can keep up with family really easily.
We don’t mind any of these, we plan our routes and days around the services, especially in the winter.
We were going to be cruising on Sunday, but have now decided to stay put, as there’s a storm coming in and we are near to the services, just in case it snows! There is always a work-around for anything negative, we’ve done this now for 3 years and are thoroughly enjoying it!
