I will admit, I feel like my FlyLady routines trained me to be better at the clean mama routines. I still feel like Clean Mama needs to specifically call out dealing with dirty dishes because so many of us struggle to keep up with them. My thought is a dirty sink makes a home feel messier than crumbs under a table but no one asked me...
Last week I did the Clean Mama 7-Day Simply Clean Kickstart and it feels really good to be on track going into the holidays. You can check out that video and my first impressions of Clean Mama when I tried it last year. I am super honest in my review with the pros and cons of each. This time, I am more open-minded and following the book Simply Clean by Becky Rapinchuk which I will link below.

My Cleaning Journey:
FlyLady had been a routine that I found when I got my first place on my own. However, I did it -ish. I worked 2-3 jobs and was solely focused on getting out of debt so the cleaning was hit or miss. I kept it clean but could not keep up with the daily routines, at least that's what I thought. After remarrying, I HAD to find a way to keep things running. My pet peeve is a sink of dirty dishes and alone this was not a problem, but having 2 teens at home and a new hubby...let's just say the first thing I noticed after working 12 hrs and driving 3 was the smell when I walked in the door. GROSS!
So, I pulled out the old FlyLady book and got busy. When I finally quit working, I was able to tackle the bigger projects but those routines were my saving grace when I was busy working. They still are! I've pivoted my entire RUclips channel to help other struggling Momma's to get their footing and make the changes needed to be happier in their homes. I am sooo far from perfect so I hope my story can encourage even the messiest of moms!
I have zero experience in coaching, filming, editing, or blogging but somehow God called me to do all of these things. My hope and faith is in Him and His wisdom. I hope to get to know you guys on a real level. I am an only child and desire a great big community of friends to share our lives and grow together.

Sometimes I feel like it is really good to change things up. That is what I am doing for now. My heart will always be a FlyBaby, but I think I was in a cleaning rut. I was not enjoying my home and had been a little lazy with my cleaning with my focus shifting to the Holidays. Doing something a little new has added a little pep to my step and brought satisfaction back to my cleaning. I do not plan to give up FlyLady forever but you never know...I have always said the best cleaning routine is the one that works for you.
The bottom line, the daily routine is the core to keeping a home tidy. I find that I still shine my sink and do many/all of my Flylady routines but now I am checking floors more. Have you ever tried a different routine or customized one? It's like dating. You don't know what you want until you find the things that you are sure you don't. I cannot say what my perfect routine is, but each time I try something new I take a little of it with me to create my own that works best with my natural personality and rhythm. Does that make any sense at all?
Let's talk Christmas...I think I am done shopping. There are still a few things coming in which is scary! I hope and pray that tomorrow I can start working in the kitchen. I have so many things I WANT to try but I do not want to wait until Christmas Eve to cook them. What are you looking forward to this year? The weather forecast has me worried. I bought a ton more food just in case the family gets stranded. The good thing is that we (my husband and I) are far more prepared for disasters and weather issues with a freezer full of food and a generator so I would rather my babies get stuck here than at their houses! Are you prepared for a week stuck at home? I think it is super important to always have a backstock of food and fuel so that we can take care of ourselves in case of an emergency! Could you survive a week at home without access to anything else?
Anywho, I am praying that you have an amazing holiday. We celebrate Christmas and really strive to keep Christ in Christmas. No matter your beliefs, I pray your are filled with peace, joy, and love! See you after Christmas, Terri!
I have been trying out the daily Clean Mama Routine and I definitely like its simplicity. I too have a hybrid approach and agree that its about what makes the most sense to each of our individuality and it could change in different seasons of life as well.

Now that I have started back on a daily routine, I have been amazed to see how little time things actually take to do. (Like you said...making your bed...taking out the trash... setting the table for the next meal, etc. And putting out your clothes for the next day. And many more.) And yet all these things make life so much better! Thank you for your videos. ❤
Way to go! It usually takes me a while to accept a change and embrace it but my daily routines are now on autopilot!

It used to be a yes to all until I got serious and now I’m keeping things caught up regularly. We still get messes but laundry and dishes are not a big deal anymore!
Laundry & dishes are a big obstacle to overcome but a little every day works!

I just found you and I love your videos. I'm a super busy working mom and I'm struggling between Clean Mama and Fly Lady. Clean mama is great but I never seem to get all the rotating tasks in. With Flylady I feel like I can't catch up. Which do you prefer?
Welcome to the party! To be honest I think a blend of the two is best. I think FlyLady is better for those overwhelmed and unsure how to clean but the Clean Mama weekly routines get the house cleaner. I honestly don't think anyone can do all the rotating tasks, weekly, daily, cook, shop, and you are working too? It's a lot. I would say I get in 50-75% of the zone cleaning (rotating tasks) but some weeks it just doesn't work out well. I hope that helps.
hello friend :) I love your hat! I am a big believer in no pattern socks. Did I spy a couple of Kingsbury novels? Great video. I've enjoyed watching your daily videos. My biggest issue is I have 3 small kids at home, and it really does feel like brushing my teeth while eating Oreos cleaning anything. I'm on an endless loop and feel like all I do is clean. Do you have any advice?
You, my friend, have good eyes. They are kingsbury but I’ve not been reading much lately. I feel like kids keep us fighting the tides. It’s never done but getting them involved can slow down the chaos. My son loved to do floors when he was younger. Figure out little ways to reward tidying-they get to pick music or you will play a game with them. Anything. Work with their personalities. Some kids would rather empty trash and others like running the vacuum.

What type of nails do you have?
I get dip done because they are indestructible..as you can see. The black was done mid-October but I couldn’t get back until yesterday 🙃. They were so grown out but not one chip!

Those simple daily tasks are so helpful. So are you a Clean Mama convert or are you just testing it out?
I think both plans are great , the beauty is we can pick and choose and make a plan with what works for us.

I’m interested in Clean Mama but my honest opinion is for me a blended plan might be perfect. So far I like my FlyLady daily routine better but the weekly Lu clean mama is growing on me. I wish FlyLady would update things a bit but I 😍 her plan!
