have been a contractor for 40 years and i am quite impressed with your attention to detail. There are many easier ways to do things but regardless you have done well,. Also your comments are tasteful and honest ,Thankyou. I wish i was close enough to resaw your first offcuts. I have an LT40 hydraulic. But i dont have access to such nice fir here in Alberta at Rocky Mountain House. Well done .You folks are very good workers and have a ever increasingly rare work ethic. Enjoy your home.....
I thought too their slabs still contain plenty of good lumber.
We are having so much fun watching your project come together!!! Another GREAT VIDEO.....
Great to see you here Cody
Double that. But be prepared for a lot of nasty comments. For some reason these folks have attracted some mean spirited trolls.
Love your work Cody.
Wow... I cant believe she put her fingers in the planer with it still running!!!
I cringed !
I can. I’ve been watching since beginning and the only thing that’s unbelievable is the lack of injury...
I have said on a few occasions how awesome you two are and now I can see why Malisa is so awesome. Her mom and dad are awesome. There is nothing better in the world than family. You guys ROCK! Love the videos. You two do a great job on your channel. Keep up the good work. We all appreciate everything you do. Looking foward to the next one.
nearly had a heart attack when you put your finger in the plane out port while it was still spinning
Jesse, you are definitely NOT lazy. I watch both of you and see you learning and learning. I see your mistakes and feel no need to post my initial reaction because I know you guys will "turn it around". You both are a joy to watch.
Jesse was right that there will be people who will accuse him of not working hard no matter how hard he actually works. There is a sociological reason for this, for better or worse. Men need to be aware of it in order to avoid being overworked and injured.
What I learned in the Army is Dig a hole deeper than the generator is high surround the hole with sandbags put a slanted roof over it (to keep it from flooding)with the lowest part of the roof towards the living/working area. place generator of course in the hole and also put the hole as far as possible from living working area.....Also, a good idea is to put the hole as far up the hill as you can.that way with the slant of the roof away from and it being higher than ground zero(working area) you will hardly hear it.
Your mom and dad are awesome, also they did a great job raising you as well
Alyssa please don’t stick your fingers in the chip ejection port while the planner is running you could lose a finger and unplug the planner when you go to clear the obstruction
So Freaking Exciting !!!
But remember kids, never stick your fingers in a planer when it's still spinning or plugged in !
Jesse and Alyssa. I just want you to know that from a disabled US Navy vet, I am so impressed by, and pulling for you. I wish so much that I could come help. Keeping all of you in prayer for success and safety!
This is better than "This Old House"...and I have been watching TOH since 1979 and love it. You guys are doing great. Very inspiring. Wish I was there helping.
Alyssa’s dad seems to be a cool guy
2:32 "ok square that way and...yup *still* square that way LMAO!!!
I can't believe after getting her shirt caught in that planer she is letting her hair dangle on it! I keep telling myself she is fine because this was filmed a month ago!
I was just thinking the same thing
maybe she is shy a couple brick, soon to be shy some hair and a finger, but some people always think it can't happen to me.
Alyssa! Eye protection when planing!
Moms and Dads are so wonderful, that’s what I tell my kids 👨🏼🏫👩🏫
It would have been so awesome to see Pat show up. Jessica and I both said that during our course, whenever Pat was talking to someone it was so worth it just to go listen to him speak. He has so much knowledge to share.
Has anyone mentioned that Alyssa’s braid is hanging down around that planer?
Sorry. I missed that. Was distracted by her not wearing any eye or hearing protection.
+Gary Franklin
Over and over and over again. They're too "smart" to work safely, haven't listened to anyone.
The frame's up now, so I guess their luck held out. Either that, or Pat got on their asses about safety once he got on the site.
Too many times to count, and that was just today :-)
HAIR !!! HAIR !!! HAIR !!! DAMN IT ! Tuck in your hair when leaning over heavy machinery !
John Smith, I totally agree... please be careful even though you have it in pig tails don't take the chance.
Aren't parents amazing? Mom jumps in sweeping and cleaning and feeding. Dad grabs a chainsaw and tackles the firewood....
What a blessing. You guys are rocking it. Great job. I can't wait to see more. And YAY Pat is there to oversee the final details.
Congratz guys. I'm so happy for you and your progress. God Bless and Keep
Oh... and donate those shavings to a local horse farm..... they are great for stalls.
Heck yeah they are we use to go to the local mill and get as much as they would give us then they caught on and started charging still far less than any other option. They charged like 10 bucks for a truck and trailer load which was a little over 5 yds. or so.
OMG, UNPLUG THE PLANER BEFORE YOU STICK YOUR FINGERS IN IT
YES!
Nobody wants to see anybody get hurt. That's not why I watch these videos. I want them to succeed.
I also don't want to see the video where they stop work because one's missing a finger and the other has a backhoe bucket spike driven though the side of his skull.
Build a little cover for the generator with the leftover ICF blocks. That will stop most of the noise
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! SEEING ALISA'S MOM, I CAN SEE WHERE SHE GETS HER LOVELY SMILE! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR NEXT VIDEO.
Wow! Alyssa, you and your dad are one in the same at the moment you're sitting in the garage smiling. Awesome stuff
Totally agree!
Jessie, don't alienate all of use for the sake of a few trolls. Most of us are behind you guys!!
You'd think that after getting her shirt caught up in the planer she'd pull that hair back and pin it up. It's always dangling on or around the planer. That's a major accident waiting to happen.
Alyssa, PLEASE tuck those beautiful ponytails back behind you while operating the planer. Remember what happened to your shirt not long ago. Imagine if that happened to your hair!
Hard to believe how far you two have come with this grand adventure. Also, anyone who watches these videos and negatively comments on either of your work ethics should get off the couch and start their own adventure. You guys rock so hard!
Enjoying the build, just wanted to say thanks for another great video! 👍🇺🇸
I know this already happened but it doesn’t matter to me I’m so excited to see this happening in “real time”...so to speak.... every step of the way. Really really enjoying this. Thanks.
I'v only started watching your vid's recently. And I have grown found of you both. So; ALYSSA! Please, please, please pay attention to the safety comments below. Others have seen the same safety problems that I have. Jesse; look after her, you'd have a hell'v hard time trying to find another like her.
Amazing how far you've both come. So many new skills and as a bonus you get a house at the end 😉
Careful putting your finger in the exit point you don't want to lose a finger. You guys are getting a lot of work done. Good job.
That Bug-A-Boo is in cat heaven! :)
Please! please! never stick your finger into a planer while it's still running again.
Alissa's dad look so young !!
Guys - a tip from my Burning Man experience: Build a flimsy plywood box around the generator - the higher the walls the better - it will cut the noise down by at least 10dB, and direct the rest upwards instead of outwards..
I agree with Mike Honcho
Alyssa please don’t stick your fingers in the chip ejection port while the planner is running you could lose a finger!!
you guys are smiling.
that's really nice.
good work keep it going.
best wishes to you.
"Usually when this planer is not running well, it's almost always because of something"🤔
Hey. Put your laser level meter in a container submerged in rice. The dry rice will suck all the moisture from the circuitry. I’ve even done this for laptops and it works. The thing to remember with electronics is that they can take a shower but they can not take a bath. Another words. They can handle getting wet as long as they don’t take a bath in the water. The rice will such all the water out. It does take 2 or more days depending on how wet it was. Just make sure it’s in a compleatly sealed container fully submerged in the rice. Worked every time.
Lazy what the heck are you talking about. My husband and I think you are two of the hardest workers ever. We worry about you hurting from working so hard. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see the frame go up, Good to see your parents support there. Great family you both have.
Those beams are beautiful....
The trick with noise generators is buy extra extension cord and then park the generator AROUND THE CORNER of a building !
"Usually when this planer is not running well, it's almost always because of something."
If you lean plywood pieces (4x4) against the frame of the generator, like a tent, it will trap the sound down and be much quieter in the area.
Aylissa favors dad! Awesome job you guys.
I feel excited about the house build
Lazy? Are u kidding me? Don’t even read that junk. You are amazing. (From an original subscriber, who also knows to wait for vids from 2 - 3 weeks ago.). Fam is wonderful of course. Also, your video talent shows well. 👍⭐️🤗
Loving the many videos being posted - it is like getting Christmas presents early!
You two simply rock! Your home/land project rocks, your genuineness rocks, your channel and your editing rock and your parents rock too, Alyssa. (They must be proud of your hard work and determination to achieve your goal.)
Your content is as REAL as it gets, and that's awesome. Thank you for creating and sharing such quality, reality, educational online TV with us.
Take some of the leftover foam board and make a ten minute 4 side sound absorbing enclosure for the generator Leave the top open. It can help w the noise level
And a quality aftermarket muffler.
Use the backhoe to dig a hole to put the generator in, Will reduce the noise alot. Could place it more out of the way too.
just a suggestion to help with that planer cable, fasten a line of string to ceiling joist tie your electric cable about 6/8 foot above your working height and cable will be kept out of the way and just follow you up and down as you plane.
You guys are ROCKIN'! Way to go!!
Been binge watching this whole series for two weeks. So proud of you both. Your successes make me smile, as much as your short comings, because it's all part of the life experience. I am 31 and I plan on starting my DIY home by the time I'm 35, if not sooner, not timber framed, but still a debt free home and a free(er) life. Congrats to you both! And thank you for the inspiration. - Josh
Absolutely love the videos! You two reminds me of my wife and I when we were younger! Always great to see a husband and wife working well together! Keep up the good work!
Great work y'all! You will have much to be proud of once you're finished!
The apple definitely didn't fall far from the tree with Alyssa and Paul, so alike!
Inspector sleepy cat. The real boss behind it all. Good work!
you guys are a great couple- fun to watch your build, and your trials and errors - be patient and diligent- you'll gitter done
I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating... You two work so well together and what you are accomplishing is simply amazing. People who are pitting the amount of work one of you is doing over the other don't see the whole picture..... Every bit of the work is tough, sure Jesse, you are sitting in the seat of a backhoe, but you have to have a certain amount of skill and precision to pick up the logs, place them on the sawmill, then actually doing the measuring and sawing.... I enjoy watching your videos of the two of you and what you are working toward.... Keep it up.. I will say I cringed in this one when Alyssa's hair was hanging down onto the planer, but knowing you are far beyond that now is reassuring.... Be safe and God Bless!
You both work incredibly hard! Glad you have a great family who clearly loves and supports you.
Aylissa, if your ponytails get tangled in the planner, like your tee-shirt, you'll have a very bad hair day!
I was going to suggest a hair cut to make it very short. Bad idea until spring?
Way too many ways to get injured!
Safety Sally can chime in,now.
Pat has a very nice truck
Girl be careful! The handles are there for a reason. Don't go putting your hand on the beam in front of the planer and whatever DO NOT put anything in the debris chute while the blades are spinning! Safety first!
Aylissa I cant like this video , it makes me sick when I see how close your hair is to the planer, its a disaster waiting to happen . don't end up like all the others that have work related accidents by saying "its fine it wont happen to me" tuck you hair out of the way, tie it up , do something that wont rip it off your scalp , you and your husband are a beautiful couple lets keep it that way , keep safe
"Are you good? Thank you." Such a great team, way to go!
Hey! .. Don't you guys have some ICF pieces laying around sOmewhere? That generator needs a cubby . You could fill them with wood shavings. Or use some long firewood to make a bin for it.
sorry i have to comment, please please don't clean out the planer with your fingers whilst the planer is running down, i know it was last month but you need your fingers.
Unless she has 8" fingers, she'll be just fine...
good has long has she safe .
Did anyone else freak out when she put her hand in the planner. Lol
So jealous of and excited for you.
You both are extremely hard workers. I purposely watch your channel at night because simply watching it makes me exhausted.
We have a similar make of generator, it is noisy as well. Ours appears to have a flange on the exhaust that might accept an additional muffler. If the noise of your generator is an issue, you might look into adding a muffler.
I'm so impressed with the way you've managed to get things done. Can't wait to see the frame go up. Alyssa shouldn't be too concerned about not being heard with all the machinery. My wife is the same when I don't listen.
Lady get your hair away from that planner!
**And your SHIRT, jacket, sweatshirt, gloves/fingers into the exhaust port while it's still RUNNING and/or plugged in! You're NOT being nearly as safe in running the planer as when you run a chainsaw. That planer can HURT YOU badly too.**
Make a plywood corral for the generator and the sound will go up instead of out, much quieter.
if RUclips had awards like the oscars you guys would win hardest working RUclips channel hands down.
A helluva family project..a Pure "Awesome Family" living for life.
Blundstones are Australian. Also the boot of choice for Adam Savage from Mythbusters!! I approve.
Open a fresh bag of rice and put the beeping laser part in a plastic zip bag with 2cups of rice.
The rice will absorb the moisture in a day or 2!
The idea of either of you being lazy has got to be the furthest thing from the truth! You both have a job opening on any construction crew I've ever seen! Great work
love the Blunstones, we wear RED BACKS another great Australian brand of boots.
keep the great videos coming guys. loving them.. from all of us here at Silhouette Park Farm Australia
My description of someone that just milled all that timber would not be lazy.
thank you so much for sharing your journey building your dream. you're inspirational, you give me confidence to pursue my own happiness. thank you 😊
U guys r kicking ass on the videos.......so much respect goes out to u guys....good job
Hi guy's have been watching you build your house for weeks now its a daily event for me as I'm in Australia. you guys' are so cool.
JESS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
It's certainly nice to have people volunteer to help you out - making the job get further along in a short amount of time.
I have to comment on taking more care of your precision Tools and Equipment.. The loss of that Laser Remote was preventable.. Without that Laser Level remote, I suspect that the Laser Level's use is out of the Question..
Hey Frank. Are you Sure?. Copping my line doesn't FIX the Remote.. I'll retract part of that comment.. I'll presume that you know..Let's not jump to conclusions.. SORRY.. However, it's something you keep in it's Storage Case when you are finished with using it.. I hope that makes you feel better..
I’ve been sawmilling for a few years. I think you can go more than one log per blade but less than 9. I know im not building a house but my experience is thats a little extreme. You should be able to go 2 or even 3 logs. Are you having trouble if you go more than one?
Careful with your hair by that planing beast. Might end up like ur shirt lol
Best wishes on your build.
You could make a generator shed out of your leftover icf pieces that would muffle that generator significantly.
Yes, Blunstones are Australian. Put some peach oil on the leather to soften it and you won’t get heel blisters.
Get arched insoles for them. They can cause back pain for some people.
Also If they get muddy and you let the mud harden it dries out the leather, so keep them clean and they’ll last you forever 👍
‘Blunnys’ as we aussies call them are a staple footware for all workers. We love them!
You should really put that generator some distance away :) And then just have some isolating sheets towards the house and you can kind of get it silent. Some extensions are needed but you dont have to listen to that sound :P
Just rig a muffler to it, quiet as your car!!!
Find a place that sharpens your saw bands. Before you go through your box. Its is done on an audiomated machine.
Keep up the good work guys , and by no means are you lazy Jessie cant wait to see the house go up
My Contractor/Architect Brother and I built a Custom House in Bozeman from the ground-up utilizing locally constructed SIP Panels for an Architecture Professor at MSU. Erection of the Panels happened in the middle of winter...so, it can be done. Insulated Coveralls and a pair of Packs for your feet from a local Carharts supplier is a must for outdoor winter working up in that country. We didn't work below Zero though...too unproductive. Best advice I can give...purchase one or two Large Capacity Battery Operated Caulking Guns as there is a TON of Gluing! Keep the Glue where it's warm...flows better. We used Dewalt Guns and they worked flawlessly. Did all the Electrical myself (I am an Electrical Contractor)...but, I know you can too. Purchase a Roto-Zip Tool for the Electrical...you won't regret it. Be glad to help if you get stuck.
ps: My other Brother is a well respected Contractor/Builder in Eureka ;)
