  • The Russian River confluence is where the Russian River meets the Kenai River, smack dab in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, just a few miles outside Cooper Landing. This is the spot! It's where Alaska's abundance and radical wildlife converge with hundreds of thousands of salmon passing through every summer and world class trophy rainbows making it their home -- drawing some of Alaska's largest grizzly and black bears to gorge on the summer feast. People come from all over the state -- and world -- to fish the sockeye salmon (called Reds) in what's called combat fishing -- with everyone lining the shore, fishing 10-12 feet apart for 500 yards. This is an awesome spot for getting photos of bears and watching them eat the salmon.
