Most of us (Belgian) speak English ;) Only if you go to the soud of our country, it could be... How do I say this polite... Euhm they speak French and are not so willing to speak English
That's not Santa Clause , That's Sinter Klaas. Similar name, different tradition. His helpers used to supposed be black, so they painted themselves black during festivities, But has recently been deemed too racist and they don't do that anymore. They celebrate his arival with a steam boat coming from Spain, as tradition goes. He mostly comes in on a white horse. I grew up in Antwerp, but live in the SF Bay Area now.
And of course the name Santa Clause comes from this guy, Sinterklaas, but this one is the OG. He's still very much alive in the Low Countries and he arrives on the 5th of December. The morning of the 6th, children wake up happily and run to the living room to check what he and Black Pete left for them. The evening before they place a shoe with carrots for Sinterklaas' horse and a whishlist.
I agree: Brussels is overrated, Antwerpen is very nice, but trust me Bruges is the place to be. On a scale, if you were to give Brussels a 5, Antwerp an 8 then Bruges easily is 9,5 out of 10.
The thing with Brussels is that most tourists only visit the areas around the Grand Place, Royal Palace etc. Places like the Gare Maritime, Horta museum-houses, Cinquantenaire (parc, triumphal arch and museums), Laken parc and the nice squares with cafes and restaurants in for example Ixelles and Saint-Gilles are more often than not overlooked.
As a Belgian who is not from Antwerp, I can confirm that you should definitely visit the city when you're in the neighborhood. It is gorgeous!
Beautiful tour of Antwerpen, such a beautiful city, thank you for sharing! Hope to visit soon.
Looks like it's definitely worth a visit 😊
Definitely would recommend!
To answer the question in your title. What is the most beautiful thing in Brussels? The train to Antwerp!
This looks amazing I’d love to roll up here sometime 💎
You definitely should - we loved it!
Hello, I'm planning a fall trip to Antwerp and this is the first of your videos I've watched. What audio tour do you recommend?
We love the Voice Map app - they are paid tours but usually done by a local of the area and have great insights into the history!
Bro thats not santa claus that sinterklaas
you came a month too early, the cathedral has just been freed from those scaffolds ;)
Do most people speak English there ? Great video thanks 🙏
Yep - language was not a problem at all while we were there.

Brussels is simply not worth it, sometimes big events happen there but you need Antwerp, Bruges Ghent, Leuven and Ypres

Very interesting - thanks for clarifying and the history!
