Thank you so much for this video. I last visited Amsterdam in February 2023. After watching this, I just know my next trip in April is going to be so much better!

Planning a 2 day Amsterdam visit on the first week of October and this is such a great and informative video. Would this be a fall weather time? Thank you so much! Cheers from Toronto, Canada!
Really enjoyed hearing your honest opinion. Thank you so much for making this video you have given me lots of ideas. I plan to visit at some point to see the Ann Frank museum so will use some of your suggestions in my itinerary. 👍😘🤗

@@benchanhkjc I don't have many recommendations but I have tried Taste of Culture and Yuan's Hotpot, and enjoyed both :) They might be interesting for you to check out!
Heading to Amsterdam in August 2024. Planning on getting a AirBnB somewhere southwest of Amsterdam, closer to the coast and beaches. Also, is a car recommended? Should I rent one? Fantastic blog! Happy I discovered you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
It totally depends on where you’d like to visit! If you are planning to spend most of your time around the city then definitely don’t need a car. You can get by easily by walking or taking public transport :) I live here and don’t own a car (as is the case for most people)
We are planning to be there 2 weeks. And to please my youngest one's need for beaches, closer to the west coast. Somewhere between Haarlem and Leiden. Most likely.
Loved this Video Leesa! (Btw dope name :D) I'm Visiting Amsterdam for the 4th time in 2 weeks, and you showed me some really nice spots i didnt know about, Thank You!
Afternoon @Leesa Yu just found your videos I'm going be in Amsterdam in beginning of May during a cruise. I want to say it be the tulips festival still going on as curious if going be very crowded and high prices due to that. How the weather beginning of May? Do you have any personal favorite restaurants or street food? As the Anne Frank house worth seeing? Thank you!
Hello! The weather in May is cool but pleasant, with an average of 8 - 17 degrees celcius. Many tourists do come to Amsterdam in mid April & early May to see the tulips, so yes it is more crowded than usual but not at an unbearable level in my opinion. I think the Anne Frank house is a great museum/landmark, but personally I do find it way too crowded (it often sells out far in advance too). For some people this feels oppressive and takes away from the history and significance of the landmark. Try to visit during a less popular time of the day (early in the morning), or an alternative is the Dutch Resistance Museum. For favourite food, I would recommend the street markets that I featured in this video, and Moeders for traditional dutch food (reservations needed). Have a good time!
I had to watch twice so I could make notes on your recommendations, two questions: is Amsterdam cash only and are pick pockets a problem. I am coming in mid-July for an Alzheimer's research conference and plan to spent some additional time exploring. Thank you for any help. you can provide.
Very exciting! I hope my recommendations will come in handy and that you will have a great trip. Much of Amsterdam (and the Netherlands as a whole) accepts debit card and cash, with many places even being card-only (e.g. public toilets, smaller eateries, tapping on and off public transport). Mastercard or Maestro is more commonly used, but AMEX is generally not accepted in most places, and Visa is hit or miss as well. I also wouldn't worry too much about pickpockets :) Just be aware of your surroundings (particularly around crowded places like the Centraal station, Damrak, Dam Square area or crowded trams/trains) and you will be fine. I've never had anything stolen here before, it is quite safe here. Have a great time here!
I really enjoyed your video. You seem like a lovely person. We are leaving for Amsterdam today. Question: any tips for how to travel with semi-disabled husband? He is not in wheelchair but loses energy and balance. We are taking cane. Not sure about bringing Rollator. Seems bulky to bring.
How wonderful that you and your husband will be visiting soon! Check out the website ableamsterdam.com - lots of great tips and guides specific to Amsterdam. I would avoid the very busy areas, like Leidseplein/Leidsestraat. I can’t give advice on whether to bring a Rollator or not, but I have seen people using them around town so it’s ok to bring and use if need be! Wear comfortable shoes too, as many places in the centre have cobblestone streets. I hope you both have a fantastic time ☺️
Hi! Thanks a lot for great video (lots of places to write down) Can you tell please if places like Mauders (hope written correctly) need reservation or you can get in with live queue? Thanks)
Have never done one myself, but you could take a look at this very well rated one: www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g188590-d19405812-The_Best_Rated_Walking_Tour_in_Amsterdam-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html
Otherwise you could take yourself on your own walking tour. Check out some routes on the website Lulu’s Leafy Walks (I have done some of her walks and liked them a lot): leafywalks.com/
Hey, your travel guide/tip video is a goldmine for wanderers like me! Your insights are so valuable and practical. By the way, have you come across the new v4 Bento Bag from NomadLane? Seems like a great companion for your adventures!
I would maybe swap out the trip to Muiderslot Castle with a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens/public tulip fields in Lisse :) Best time to see the tulips are around mid-April!
Check out IJ hallen market in Noord (check website for dates), Noordermarket in Jordaan (every Sat and Monday), and Waterlooplein market in the centre (Monday-Saturday) ☺️
We have allocated 2 days and 3 nights for Amsterdam in late April. Given the high hotel prices in Amsterdam, we are considering staying in Haarlem and commuting to the city by train. We both prefer returning to a quieter atmosphere after exploring the bustling city. Could you kindly advise if this is a sound plan? or stay in Amsterdam instead?
Yes that’s totally fine! Lots of people do that, also because Haarlem is much more affordable than Amsterdam. Haarlem is very quick and easy to get to from Amsterdam and is also a beautiful city! The only thing to consider is that once you leave your accommodation, you’ll likely need to shed the whole day out with no rest breaks at the hotel in the middle of the day :) have a wonderful time!
This was a super helpful video, as I am planning a summer trip to Amsterdam! I was wondering is the Castle in Muiden a free attraction? Or do you have to have a tour to go in it? Or do you pay to explore it yourself? Thanks!
I’m so glad you found it helpful! You have to pay an entrance fee to explore it yourself :) the ticket prices are online, and there was no need to book in advance!
Hi Ms Leesa, thanks for the very wonderful vlog. Can I ask something? Do you think its possible to explore Amsterdam and Rotterdam in 1 whole day? Will visit Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijrk and the tulips garden only. Sorry my first time to go Netherlands this coming April. Thank you.
Personally I wouldn't recommend squeezing so much into 1 day. Zaanse Schans and the Keukenhof tulip garden is really far away, so even just doing both those activities would be difficult to do in a single day. I think at a minimum you need 2 days to do all 3 activities. I would recommend doing half-day Zaanse Schans + half day exploring Amsterdam city, a full day exploring the tulip gardens, and another full day exploring Rotterdam and Kinderdijk.
Hi Leesa, what is the best way to get to Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam? And should I buy region tickets during my stay or better to buy single ticket to everywhere I go ?
Best way is to take a train from Amsterdam Centraal station. Take the NS train to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans (download the 9292 transportation app to see what platform to catch the train from). Then it's just a 20 min walk to the main attraction (it's a very nice walk, the time will pass quickly!). If you have a bigger group, Uber is the most cost-effective. As for what ticket to buy, it really depends on how long you will be travelling for and how often you plan to take the train :)
You will definitely catch some autumn colours in late October. I’d say that by November it starts to disappear and get a little cold, grey and rainy. But this is also when a lot of the Christmas decorations start to come out so it isn’t always gloomy. Hard to specify actual hotel recommendations, but the best locations IMO to stay in are around the Negen Straatjes, Vondelpark, and Oud West. You could also look into staying in Haarlem, which is just a 15 min train ride from Amsterdam and much cheaper :)
Check out Hortus Botanicus for a little bit of warmth during the winter cold, try eating oliebollen (a traditional Dutch donut that’s only available during the winter time), ice skating in front of Rijksmuseum, check out the Light Festival, if you’re here in November then you could check out Museum Night, and if you have time then you could do a weekend trip to one of the Christmas markets in the South of the Netherlands (Maastricht & Valkenburg)!
Loved the video. I am planning on going this October. What area should I stay in so I can walk to most places? I am 62 years old and traveling alone. Safety is an issue. Thank you so much.
The good news is that Amsterdam is a very walkable city, with great public transportation. I think that the centre of Amsterdam (around Singel), Jordaan, Oud-West, Rijksmuseum, and nearby the Vondelpark are all good and easily accessible areas to stay at as a first time visitor!
I am pretty sure you walked by me on Ferdinand Bolstraat just now. You turned the corner by the cafe (next to Takumi Ramen) and disappeared. Was this you? (Wearing a gray beanie).
Hi there! I don’t have specific hotel recommendations (since I haven’t stayed in any myself) but I recommend anywhere near Vondelpark, the 9 straatjes, and Anne Frank museum. If you have Instagram, happy to send you a map image there :)
Hi Leesa! Thank you so much for the wonderful video!! :) Just wondering - do you have any recommendations on how much cash/euros to have on hand per day / per person for places that don't accept credit cards?
Glad you liked it! You don’t need a lot of cash as most places here take care (and are even card only). I’d say €50 in cash a day is more than enough! In terms of what cards to bring, most are accepted except for American Express. Have a great trip!
Your video is very interesting and informative. Thanks. Do we have took train tickets ahead for trips outside Amsterdam or we can buy same day? And where does the canal boat tour with Dam Boat guys stars at? Do we have to book tickets ahead ? I appreciate your reply.
No need to book train tickets in advance! You can buy on the spot, and also tap on/off using most credit cards. Download the 9292 app (transportation app) to help with your transportation planning (usually more accurate than Google Maps). Those Dam Boat Guys picks up from Keizersgracht 102. You definitely should book ahead of time :)
Thanks for the tips! I will be there the first week of September. Any tips on how to pack for the weather? Will it still be warm since it's closer to August, and can I wear shorts?
Lovely! It can still be warm at the start of September, but the evenings could get a little bit chilly. I would advise you bring some warm weather clothes but also layers for when the temperatures drop (e.g. jumpers, jackets, pants). Because by the second week of September I remember already having to wear a light sweater!
We are coming the last few days of March/first few days of April. What things would you do different in that time frame and can you give me an idea about the weather, I assume we will need jackets and maybe hats.
It is still quite cold in Amsterdam during March and April. I’d definitely bring a warm coat, jumpers, a rain jacket, beanie and try to layer your outfits for change of weather throughout the day :)
@@LeesaYu thanks for the tips! We will definitely pack for cold weather. Other than possibly seeing tulips if they are blooming yet is there anything else you’d add to the plan?
You could potentially go see the cherry blossoms in Amsterdamse Bos (though it's a little bit out of the way from Amsterdam centre). Otherwise nothing else different comes to mind! enjoy your trip!
im from melbourne and visiting end of april/early may, is the weather decent around that time? 😄 also this was the most helpful Amsterdam video I've seen on YT so far, thank u!!!
Hello i will be going to utrecht in 2 weeks. Is it far to go to Utrecht Summer School Janskerkhof 30 from Utrecht Centraal Station if I bring luggages? Should i rent a taxi app instead? Thank you so much
If you want the classic souvenirs, best shop is Dam Square Souvenirs, or Amsterdam Experience on Damrak. For more out of the box ones, you could check out Kramer Kumar & Antiek (antique store with cool Dutch knick knacks), Dille & Kamille (it’s a homeware store but they sell some cute white houses), and the boutique shops along the 9 Streets.
There are still some warm days but starts to get a bit chilly in the evening. By the last week of September, we start wearing a coat and scarf :) Bring layers!
14:12 Afaik ‘Lovers’ happens to simply be a dutch surname which doesn’t have anything to do with the English word for people who are in love. The dutch pronunciation is closer to ‘low-verse’. More apt, innit? 😅
@@LeesaYu You’re welcome! The company has a page on the (just the) dutch wikipedia. It confirms what I thought: ‘The name rhymes with clovers not with undercovers’ nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovers_(rederij)
Hello Leesa, first of all, thank you for this wonderful video! It was very informative and useful. I would like to ask you if it is worth purchasing the Iamsterdam city card for like 48 hours? It is quite expensive but they are promoting its benefits as if you can do it all in such short time :)
Glad you found the video helpful! Hmmm I think the card can save you some money if you are interested in what it has to offer, and want to go to a lot of museums. Cross check the price of museums you’re interested in, as some are not that expensive or are even free (e.g. Zaanse Schans is listed but it is free to enter). If you’re not game enough to cycle around the city (can be a bit scary if you’ve not done before), and want to choose a less commercial canal boat experience, then the card may not be that advantageous. This is a pretty good blog article that gives some cost comparison: drifterplanet.com/i-amsterdam-city-card-review/ ☺️
Very well done! I’m use to seeing people go to the “coffee shops” 🪴 or just food places. Thanks for uploading. Btw what made you move there from Australia?

Thanks)
I would highly recommend making a reservation at Moeders! They get booked up a few weeks in advance so book fast :)
Nice video!! For the Keukenhof garden, how early do you need to make the reservation at the end of April? Thanks!!
I’m not totally sure tbh, but late April is a very popular time to visit so I wouldn’t leave it until the last minute!
Any suggestion for joining the local tour for approx 5 hours near the cruise port? I will be coming from a cruise ship from 12-8pm
Hi! Was this video filmed in June? The weather was lovely!
Yes it was! The weather was perfect! Have to say summer here can still be hit or miss but on a whole June is a good month ☺️
Would you change this guide if you were visiting in April? Thanks! I loved the video :)
I would maybe swap out the trip to Muiderslot Castle with a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens/public tulip fields in Lisse :) Best time to see the tulips are around mid-April!
On point!! I'm just going to share this with any friends who plan to visit me in the future hahaha
Hehe hope I saved you some time and work!!
I’ve been unable to confirm the information online, is St Jean deli also plant based? Love the vlog.
Yes it is!
What kind of Flee Markets/ Markets would you recommend if I wanted to shop for clothes, trinkets, books, etc?
Check out IJ hallen market in Noord (check website for dates), Noordermarket in Jordaan (every Sat and Monday), and Waterlooplein market in the centre (Monday-Saturday) ☺️
What would you say is a less touristy neighborhood that has little vintage shops, cafes, and canals? Thanks!
I think Oud West is a lovely neighbourhood that has all those things you mentioned!
Loved this! Thank you for the informative video
Glad you found it helpful! 🥰
Leesa, Thank you, your video is very informative
Hi do you recommend purchasing the Amsterdam card or gvb card? Or just paying as we go?
Hi. What’s the weather like late October to mid November? Could we see autumn colours? And any good and reasonable price hotels to recommend?
You will definitely catch some autumn colours in late October. I’d say that by November it starts to disappear and get a little cold, grey and rainy. But this is also when a lot of the Christmas decorations start to come out so it isn’t always gloomy. Hard to specify actual hotel recommendations, but the best locations IMO to stay in are around the Negen Straatjes, Vondelpark, and Oud West. You could also look into staying in Haarlem, which is just a 15 min train ride from Amsterdam and much cheaper :)
Thanks for the guide.
any tips for winter-christmas travellers?
Check out Hortus Botanicus for a little bit of warmth during the winter cold, try eating oliebollen (a traditional Dutch donut that’s only available during the winter time), ice skating in front of Rijksmuseum, check out the Light Festival, if you’re here in November then you could check out Museum Night, and if you have time then you could do a weekend trip to one of the Christmas markets in the South of the Netherlands (Maastricht & Valkenburg)!
Will be there in July this helps
Loved the video. I am planning on going this October. What area should I stay in so I can walk to most places? I am 62 years old and traveling alone. Safety is an issue. Thank you so much.
The good news is that Amsterdam is a very walkable city, with great public transportation. I think that the centre of Amsterdam (around Singel), Jordaan, Oud-West, Rijksmuseum, and nearby the Vondelpark are all good and easily accessible areas to stay at as a first time visitor!
@@LeesaYu Thank you so much for replying to my question. 😁
What is the shop with the dishes at 2:51?
I believe it's this shop on Prinsengracht - Kramer Kunst & Antiek maps.app.goo.gl/C5hKQAUTH91uviS57
I am pretty sure you walked by me on Ferdinand Bolstraat just now. You turned the corner by the cafe (next to Takumi Ramen) and disappeared. Was this you? (Wearing a gray beanie).
Yes that was probably me 😉
Hi, I am a girl planning for a solo trip to Netherlands in this October. Are there any suggestions for accommodation, other than staying in a hostel?
Plenty of great places to stay in! Just use Booking.com to see what options are available and how close it is to the sights you want to see ☺️
We are planning to go. What hotel should we stay that we could walk around the city?
@@LeesaYu Thanks a bunch. 👍
@@LeesaYu thank you so much for this advice! The weather was just as you described. 😅
It is usually pretty decent - not as warm as Australian spring time, so I’d still bring a jumper/jacket and pants. But the sun is usually out by then!
Hello i will be going to utrecht in 2 weeks. Is it far to go to Utrecht Summer School Janskerkhof 30 from Utrecht Centraal Station if I bring luggages? Should i rent a taxi app instead? Thank you so much
Hey there! You can use Google Maps to check your route. Download Uber ahead of time in case you decide to order one when you’re there. Have fun!
Which place you recommend to buy a good souvenir in Amsterdam?
If you want the classic souvenirs, best shop is Dam Square Souvenirs, or Amsterdam Experience on Damrak. For more out of the box ones, you could check out Kramer Kumar & Antiek (antique store with cool Dutch knick knacks), Dille & Kamille (it’s a homeware store but they sell some cute white houses), and the boutique shops along the 9 Streets.
Did you use the Amsterdam turist card for all entrances?
We bought individual tickets for the Van Gogh Museum and Muiderslot :)
Very good info 👍👍
What’s the weather like middle of September? Is it still sunny and warm or does it get a bit colder. Visiting middle September
There are still some warm days but starts to get a bit chilly in the evening. By the last week of September, we start wearing a coat and scarf :) Bring layers!
@@LeesaYu thank you very much looking forward to coming
Thank you!
14:12 Afaik ‘Lovers’ happens to simply be a dutch surname which doesn’t have anything to do with the English word for people who are in love. The dutch pronunciation is closer to ‘low-verse’. More apt, innit? 😅
Interesting, thanks for this information!
@@LeesaYu You’re welcome! The company has a page on the (just the) dutch wikipedia. It confirms what I thought: ‘The name rhymes with clovers not with undercovers’
nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovers_(rederij)
What transport card is good for Amsterdam
These days you can use your credit card to tap on and off, which I think is the best type of card :)
Are these places you went to open on Sundays?
Yes most places would be, but all locations are listed in the video and you can Google it to double check!
@@LeesaYu I will definitely look into that blog. Thanks again Leesa, I really appreciate it 😊 Take care 🍃
great video!
Happy you enjoyed 🥰
My fvr ths type of areas
Is it hot during the time?
The temperature fluctuates - usually July and August are the hottest periods in Amsterdam!
Amsterdam is my favorite city.
A microphone would increase much your audio in your videos
Ok 😂
👌🏼😎

I think Van Gogh is overhyped.
Ahhh really?? I have been to the Van Gogh museum twice now, and loved it each time. I really love Van Gogh though.
Please don't come to Amsterdam. We have enough tourists already!
Without tourists many of ur businesses wud go skint👍🏼
Very well done! I’m use to seeing people go to the “coffee shops” 🪴 or just food places. Thanks for uploading. Btw what made you move there from Australia?
Thanks! Amsterdam is so much more to me than coffee shops and I'm so glad that came through in my video! My husband got a cool job opportunity in Amsterdam, we decided to go for it, and the rest is history :)
