@@williamhassall4453 If you're detecting east coast wet sand without too much black sand...use Beach 1. Beach 2 is for when you submerge the coil in salt water and some would say for when there's a lot of black sand like in California.
I have both the Equinox 900 and the X-Terra Elite. I love the simplicity of the Elite, and find myself using it more than the 900. Maybe because it's a new toy, but I do really like it. Great vid!
Gold chains are hard to detect because the little loops tend to disperse the inducted signal rather than reflect back to the coil. The higher the sensitivity, closer to the coil, and being more balled up helps in detecting gold chains (also using minimal discrimination). Both coils are DD, but the wider one I would imagine will have a wider detection footprint. Very impressive on the gold rings with that visible black sand in the soil, and not to mention wet salt. Thanks
I think they both did well. I think the 600 might’ve performed just a smidge better but all in all they’re both good machines. Great test thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed seeing you compare the Equinox and the XTerra Elite...I would like to see how the Elite compares with another detector (or your choice) using the 8" coil on the Elite and a comparable coil on the other detector. The 8" coil on my XTerra Pro makes it a quite different detector. Thank you for your great videos.
I own the 600. I am very impressed with your depth test. I was a little surprised about the gold chain. I was hoping you dropped it in the whole balled up . 😊
Equinox is better but lowering your recovery after already hitting the target will only give you better results as it goes deeper. Higher the recovery the shallower it goes. If the beach is clean with no iron then run recovery at 2 all the time. If the sand is mineralised then you should be doing a ground balance.
Nice test, it will help me decide on a new detector, I’ve started using an old whites 9500 that I’ve had for years, works great but it’s like swinging a couple of bricks.
Nice test Austin, I do not own either machine but, I definitely know that the 600 crushed it in your test. On a off topic note I went out today pulled a 1928 wheatie and a 8.9 gram silver ring 😁
I would say they are both very similar. Neck to neck. I found it interesting how the Equinox 600 only picked up that gold chain in beach 1 model and beach 2 mode. If the chain is more balled up and closer to the coil that helps the machines see it better.
Equinox 600 blew the Elite away. And by a long shot by detector standards. And the Equinox 600 can be found at the same price range online. I love the Equinox tones. Also saw a couple Equinox 800 being sold for less than $500. But being afraid to dunk it is a bummer. I have the Legend and it seems a little quirky. Sometimes it runs great other times it seems a bit erratic and resetting back to factory settings is required. Don't know if it's just me or if others experience this with Legend. Could be my imagination or EMI condition changes.
Equinox 600 really wasn't that good in this test. It only picked up that gold chain in beach 1 mode. And didn't pick it up in beach 2 mode which was a disappointment. Xtera Elite picked up all the other targets.
I would say the Equinox 600 did better. Maybe the coil had a little to do with it? but it seemed to pick up on the samples better. I guess the only way to do a better comparison would be to get as close as you can to matching coils. One interesting test with the gold chain, would be to see if you could find a setting that does pick up on the chain. Just to see if there is a way to repeatedly get a signal that would work when your going at a normal pace swinging as you would on any given day. If there is such a setting, then you could try varying the shape and depth of the chain. ✌

If Minelab can make a profit off the cheap machines then they should be able to make one off the Manticore at a cheaper price. Making a bunch of different VLF models at different prices might even cost them money. Wonder what their profits would be if they just priced the Manticore at low mid range price and it was their only detector? Might just put their competition out of business and get record profits.
If you're mostly a beach hunter and not in an area with a lot of EMI...Equinox 6/800 will find more small/fine gold than most detectors out there. Vanquish will too. Manticore is the only one that can compete but honestly, it's not worth the money because there's less and less coins and gold being lost on the beach these days.
"Equinox 6/800 will find more small/fine gold than most detectors out there" the 600 & 800 are totally different on small gold. 800 has the higher freqs for fine gold.
in this comparison the Equinox 600 out did the X-Terra Elite, personally i'm sure i'm not the only one who would like to see how a more affordable detector like the Simplex Ultra or even the Simplex plus compares to these machines. for a lot of people spending the kind of money it takes for detectors like the Equinox and Elite is just to unjustifiably irresponsible.....

the chain was a settings issue if u put the 600in another mode like field recovery 1you would have blasted it course knowing it was there too
If Minelab can make a profit off the cheap machines then they should be able to make one off the Manticore at a cheaper price. Making a bunch of different VLF models at different prices might even cost them money. Wonder what their profits would be if they just priced the Manticore at low mid range price and it was their only detector? Might just put their competition out of business and get record profits.
Since the equinox cost several hundred dollars more, as they perform basically the same ? 😮
ciao come puo x terra non sentire una collana in superficie?hai provato a modificare iron bias? ciao
You forget the xterra pro you must try his single frequency (8khz) with the other machines
no wonder I have not found a goild chain yet thats a bummer
If you're mostly a beach hunter and not in an area with a lot of EMI...Equinox 6/800 will find more small/fine gold than most detectors out there. Vanquish will too. Manticore is the only one that can compete but honestly, it's not worth the money because there's less and less coins and gold being lost on the beach these days.
"Equinox 6/800 will find more small/fine gold than most detectors out there" the 600 & 800 are totally different on small gold. 800 has the higher freqs for fine gold.
That is for sure its mostly junk jewelry being worn nowadays. Majority of what I find detecting on the beach is junk jewelry.
@@rball690 We're talking salt beach detecting...where the 800s 20Khz and 40Khz single frequencies don't matter, unless you're up on the dry sand.
@@peterbicker8389 Gold being $2300 an ounce has its good and bad points. lol
@@p1315 but you mentioned "small/fine gold " where the higher freq's shine.
600👍👍👍
Woo, excelentes equipos amigo, saludos cordiales desde chile 🙋♂️🇨🇱⛏️🗡️⚔️🗝️🗝️🤜🤛👏🇺🇸
in this comparison the Equinox 600 out did the X-Terra Elite, personally i'm sure i'm not the only one who would like to see how a more affordable detector like the Simplex Ultra or even the Simplex plus compares to these machines. for a lot of people spending the kind of money it takes for detectors like the Equinox and Elite is just to unjustifiably irresponsible.....
disappointed on the chain. Both machines did not pick up well. 600 was slightly better.
Equinox 600 is still better than the XTerra Elite. On pure detection and ID stability.Newer is not always better.
don't agree. Equinox 600 build quality is crap.
@@peterbicker8389 I give you that on the water ingress problems. I have the EQ800 and it's never been submerged. Never had a coil ear breakage in 5 years with mine either but don't use my detectors as walking sticks. The raw detecting qualities of the 600 and 800 still surpass the XTerra Elite by a good margin.
@@RobNC-OG My Equinox 600 flooded on me two times within a few years. I think the Xtera Elite has better detecting power then the Equinox. Remember you are comparing a 2014 Honda Accord to a 2024 Honda Accord technology has improved greatly since the Equinox 600 and 800 came out.
Your review seems to confirm that the Equinox is a better detector than the Elite. I wonder if you ran the new iron settings if that would make more of a difference?
Also, if you ran the same coil on both detectors it would be a fairer test!
How to order
I got both. Nox 600 is better 👍👍
Equinox is more expensive and seems to be the winner . Elite is more budget friendly and does a good job.
cant beat the 11 inch coil on the 600
Can we just address the elephant in the room ... the 600 is just better than the elite.. simple as that
Equinox 🦾🦾
Was up
Don’t worry if you loose it, will bring manticore and find it for you
Vyzera, ze Equinox je lepsi.
Try different frequencies PLEASE
Equinox has more Power...elite sounds alittle Weak...
This comparison is incorrect, Elite should compare with Xterra Pro dough
Would be nice to see how they compare on same signals, might give it a go.
Equinox wins

What about noise cancellation . Ground balance.😂😂😂.
You don’t need to ground balance in beach mode.
