Impressive. A few observations. The stuffy nose could, very well, be from all the stuffed animals on her bed. They do collect dust. It may be time to limit how many she has on her bed. Have her pick a few, put the rest, neatly, in her closet, and then she can rotate them out when she wants to change them up. It looks like she is a "collector" (One of my daughter's was a collector at that age). It is not a bad thing to put a limit on it. We had to implement a rule, something comes in, something goes out, otherwise it ends up a hot mess of way too much stuff. Also, love the fact she is creative but have her do her creative stuff at the counter, not in her room. That way it is easier for her to do some cleanup and not just push it all under the furniture. Start slow but stay consistent, and set firm limits on her collecting. Great job on the clean up. It looks wonderful.

True, my 7 year old have a habit of sleeping with a load of stuffed toys and used to sneeze all the time, she also got dust allergy coz of that. My sister is a Doctor and when she saw this she asked me to at least limit the stuffed animals at night . My daughter got so much better now, she doesn't get dust allergy that frequently anymore!! Btw, we live in a tropical climate so we use cotton blankets which is plus

That's funny I used to go thru my girls stuff and declutter as well, but their floor had to be clean. Their room was downstairs towards the front of the house, and I didn't just close the door. But they learned at an early age you play with it, you pick it up, you throw it around it goes in the trash.

Your video is very motivating. No food in bedrooms is one thing I forbid with my kids. Another thing, I go into my kids rooms daily to clean up junk therefore I don’t have a huge cleanup. With 3 kids I must be on top of cleaning. It works

It’s so interesting to see how many mama’s actually struggle with keeping a clean house. I really don’t get it, it’s not that hard. This has truly taught me that I need to start a RUclips channel for tips and tricks of keeping a clean house with kids. I have a few short videos that I created lately but this is something that I really need to do. How old is your daughter?

I wonder if your daughter is seeking out pressure (so many blankets). Have you considered letting her try a weighted blanket? For some kids, it can be calming and improve sleep. Just a thought from one mama to another mama.

    • @ashleyforbes
      @ashleyforbes  Год назад

She actually does have a weighted blanket but doesn’t use it too much anymore. I’m not sure why she loves the stuffed animals so much, maybe because she doesn’t feel like she’s sleeping alone 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi Ashley, my now 42 years old son used to be just like your daughter when he was 8 or 9 only worse! Problems with Hygiene, school work and very creative too. I tried everything! Nothing worked till I discovered the “NOTHING”. That finally did the trick. It's a group job and it's not easy but he's better for it.
“NOTHING” is: just what it says, nothing. I had to work things out with his teachers first. He got no recess, no lunchtime, and no field trips till all his school work was completely caught up. I got a weekly report from his teachers on this, plus desk/locker inspection weekly.
At home, I emptied his room. No toys, books, crafts, TV, games, dressers, bins, or boxes of anything in his room just his bed which he had to make every day. Showers tooth brushing, hair brushing, and clean clothes every day. He was smell tested daily. (he had no friends at school because he stunk. I thought he would grow out of it but he only got worse). He had to stay in his room doing nothing but homework. He got no TV time, no game time, and no family outings till he completed and got all his school work caught up, kept his room, and self-clean for 2 weeks in a row.
When we started the “NOTHING” I ask him what did he think I should do about all of his behavior problems and he said “NOTHING”. He thought everything was just fine. I told him you want nothing he said yes. I said be careful what you ask for and it took me a while but once nothing was ready it didn't take him long to move his butt and change everything. In 2 weeks he had everything done daily and when he would slip I would tell him that nothing can come back and he would jump into gear again.
I know you think this is cruel and a lot of work but it sure showed him responsibility and respect for himself and others. I made him do the work not me. After this, He made friends, got good grades, and grew to be a good loving son and man with a great job and a clean apartment I'm happy to go to. Plus he went to college and got the highest honors through 2 degrees. So it was worth it and he tells me that often.
Your husband is a military man he understands what duty, respect, and doing things the right way means. You need to be a united front and example of what you expect from your children that's how they learn to be the same in adulthood.
It worked in my house is all I'm saying. My oldest saw this and changed too. He's served 21 years in the AF and they tell me I was the best mom ever. In fact, their friends say the same thing.

I was looking for a motivational video and found you! I loved how realistic this was! I sometimes feel like my kid’s rooms never stay clean, I don’t even know how they accumulate so much trash out of paper. Lol. This was really motivating!! 🙌🏼 your daughter reminds me of my 9 yr old daughter, she has a bunch of stuffed animals & loves Pokémon too. Lol. & yes I always recommend Atomic Habits to everyone! It really helped me change my habits! I’m reading it for the second time, it’s such an easy read too!

  • @RecaRose

Its great to see you doing this for your child, and not only that, but showing her what you're doing for her.
As a child, I was exactly the same, possibly even worse, and my mother simply cleaned while i was out of the house, and never gave me the tools nor motivation to help me clean on my own once i became a teenager. It took a frankly ridiculous amount to teach myself good ways to clean and declutter, and a lot of time and energy on top of battling my rather poor mental health.
So thank you for the simple act of showing your daughter how to clean, rather than just shutting her out and doing it completely by yourself. You have no idea how much it means in a child's development, even as something so minor. ❤

Hi Ashley love decluttering my home I like things in their place,No food upstairs or drinks only water we have carpet in the bedrooms so it’s hard to keep clean we don’t need food tramped in the carpets.
We have set times for snacks too usually in the afternoon after school it’s easy for kids to snack out of boredom. One thing about kids they always bring their toys downstairs it’s ok if there going to play with them then they don’t want to take them back upstairs after they’re done out of pure laziness that drives me nuts lol 😂 I don’t like clutter it stresses me out so I like things tidy.I will say though weekends go too fast I wish it would slow down I like to go do things but it goes way too fast.Have a great week 😀

It took me a good part of the day to clean out my youngest daughter's room in the new year. After I organized everything she went through and got rid of a bunch of toys. She is only seven so I was happy. We built some shelves in her room and most of her stuff is now in her room. Such a great job of cleaning I’m sure she really appreciates it! Just one thing though, the no food upstairs 100% get it but be careful with having really strict food rules/ times once they get a bit older like 10/11 as it could lead to disordered eating habits of course it’s not a definite just a very prevalent problem that you might want to consider x

Absolutely agree. I was looking for this comment and hoping it was mentioned. Even at birth we know our bodies and how much we need and when to eat. No one besides us can tell us that we are eating because we’re “bored”. Unfortunately that really rubbed me wrong as being an adult who has fought with an ED my entire life starting at a very very young age, and raising a daughter who has never had her food restricted and she isn’t “overweight” she is in control of when she eats.

So many stuffed animals. I'm glad you don't get rid of any. My granddaughter has a lot and she has cries when her mom gets rid of something. I've spent lots of money rebuying them for her because she was devastated. You had me laughing crawling under the bed. No way I could do that. My son was also a messy child. I never knew what was in there until we had a mouse. Yep it was in his dresser. He did a better job keeping it clean after that. He kept everything. I still have tubs of his stuff in the basement. I know I could get rid of most of it, but we don't just in case. Need to figure out a way to get to him.

I know it's peer pressure, so hard for you with having 4 children but trust me your snack store isn't as bad as some I have seen 😵and not o not that the cost of it all, I'm one of 8 when we wanted a snack we were lucky to get a biscuit and if you were thirsty there was corporation pop !! 🙉 (water) long long time ago now I'm 62 and my son didn't like most fruit but he loved his vegetables, I feel sorry for families with a few children as everything is so expensive now. Your little Ethan is so cute I had a little black haired brown eyed boy once 😭 he is 33yrs old now, time goes way too quickly I would love a day with my son as a 3 yr old again . 😍 but he is lovely now and I'm very proud of the man he is. 🌹 xx

I am the same way I have scheduled eating my son has of course breakfast then he has a midday snack lunch mid-afternoon snack but most snacks are small cuz I don't want it interfere with their regular meals and then I have dinner so yes I am very scheduled on meals. And I don't allow the eating in the living room or the bedrooms the one thing I have the most trouble with with my son's room is water bottles he will throw them in the trash can but the bottle caps remain on the floor that drives me insane for some reason he will not screw them back on the bottle they get thrown on the floor so it drives me insane. But I do have a reward system in place for him on Fridays which is very small it's a milkshake or he loves these certain cheese sticks that I order from a pizza place and if he does well by keeping his room picked up which takes a lot off of me then he gets that reward and you would be surprised at how well they will do so putting a reward system in place really does help it doesn't have to be anything expensive because I'm not going to do that but it just gives them more responsibility and you'd be surprised at how much they will do just to get that reward no matter how big or small and it sure helps take a lot off of us mom's. Now again I have to go in there and do the nitty gritty stuff because I like to do that but it just cuts my job in half and keeps me off the floor so much

🙄 at the comments. I was this kind of kid. Though, I do hate cleaning now so maybe it wasn’t awesome BUT I think I turned out alright. My daughter just turned 8 and her room is messy too. They don’t use their rooms much so it’s different clutter (like she doesn’t cut stuff upstairs and Easter eggs and junk always collects in my living room) but similar.
We don’t schedule eating. Probably because my husband and I are both grazers and kids tend to lean that way anyway. But they don’t eat upstairs. 🤷🏻‍♀️
