    Love this comparison, thank you! I'm a new subscriber, your videos are awesome. One more plus you may not have known for the Mealthy lid is that the max temperature is 500º, and Instant Pot lid is only 400º. Also, the Instant Pot's heating element has a non-stick coating, and the Mealthy doesn't (though because of that you have to be diligent with cleaning it). :)

    Lana I am now a follower. That was the very best comparison review of any product(s)for the entire home that I have ever seen. I just got the Mealthy Crisp Lid and interestingly enough my new Instant Pot Max too at a good price which I also learned is being discontinued by IP in September 2021. Thank you for the great lesson. I can't wait to try your Latin dishes.

    First of all let me say this was an excellent video. I loved your unbiased opinion even though you are Insta pot lover like myself. I have just now started looking into both of them and until your video, I did not know that the Mealthy fit both the 6 Qt and the 8 Qt. That is a game changer for me since I have both and the Mealthy will fit any model Insta pot that you have is also a comforting feature. Don’t really mind pushing the button twice or timing countdown display. Wattage is not a big deal...nor the pad for cooling. Mealthy fits my circumstance better....thanks for helping me with my choice.

    Super helpful! And I appreciate that you actually bought an additional InstantPot just to do this comparison! I would buy the Mealthy because of the smaller size and also I'm not sure the InstantPot air fryer attachment would work with my IP model. Hi Lana, I have question dose the Mealthy lid use an infrared heating tube? If it does theses tubes burnout appropriately after a year of continuous use. The Instant pot uses a metal element like on an electric range it will last for years of use! Please let me know and your viewers, that is why the mealthy lid is 1000 watts and the instant pot is 1500 watts if you plug both your instant pot in the same plug outlet while the fryer lid it would most likely trip your breaker or fuse depending on how your home is wired!

    Like the video!!! So far I haven't yet had the need for the function of the crisping, apart from my poor turkey from 2 Thanksgivings ago! I also am loyal to the IP and their things. I've been happy with my pots and Vortex Plus. I like the same features that you do about the Crisplid. I've seen other videos about the IP lid and I don't think I'd like that center thing. I have a long-legged trivet and could get one of the Crisplid baskets from Amazon so I could use the IP top with that but buying those would kind of defeat part of the purpose of getting the IP lid! • @PaulMJohnsSeattle

    I think the most interesting use for these crisping lids is to make the top of something you've cooked (a casserole, or maybe chicken or meat) using the pressure cooker function crispy. To do that, you take off the pressure cooker and put the crisper lid on (after switching plugs, of course).
    The Mealthy manual instructs you to drain any liquid from the pot before crisping. I think this is because it only has 1000 watts of power. I verified this instruction with Mealthy customer support.
    The Instant Pot manual doesn't say anything about draining any liquids from the pot. I suspect that it's not as important since it has more power (1500 watts).
    Having to take everything apart to drain is a pain, so if you can brown/crisp the top of your food without doing so, it's really nice....
    Is there any way you can check this out? I'm thinking something like eggplant parmesan cooked in a pot-in-pot manner, with mozzarella on the top....or chicken breasts, or a steak.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад +2

      Absolutely! One of the best facebook groups for the IP is Instant Pot 101 for Beginners and they use the lid for exactly what you describe, crisping foods after pressure cooking. I haven't used that function yet, but I will definitely add it to my list of recipes to do.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Yes both the Mealthy and the IP lid have a dehydrating setting and they are different because you set them to a longer time and a lower temperature than on the other settings. Here is a link to my blog article and I list in chart for the temperatures and times for each lid on each mode. lanaunderpressure.com/2020/04/01/instant-pot-air-fryer-crisp-lid-vs-mealthy-air-fryer-lid-review-and-side-by-side-comparison/

    • @PaulMJohnsSeattle
      @PaulMJohnsSeattle 4 года назад +1

      There is an older Mealthy model that didn't have lower temperatures for dehydrating. It also had a shallow frying basket. They haven't been selling that model for months, but when I bought a while ago, they shipped the wrong model. They were very good about replacing it, however.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад +1

      Thank you so much and I'm so glad you liked my video. The reason they don't want it plugged in at the sabe time as the fryer is because the lid is made for the IP, so it engages the unto abs can accidentally be turned on. So having the IP on and the Lid can cause a fire or at the very least, over heat the IP and break it. That would be my guess.

    • @p.andrewwill3523
      @p.andrewwill3523 2 года назад

      @@LanaUnderPressure It is an electrical circuit overload safety issue. A 6 quart instant pot (or other similar wattage appliance WHEN IN FULL USE, not merely plugged in) creates an electrical load of 1000 watts, and if used with another 1500 watt item at the same time, together they would total 2500 watts on a single 120V circuit. That would easily overload and trip a typical 15 Amp (and likely even a 20 Amp) rated household circuit breaker. A typical household circuit using a 15 Amp breaker is only rated for a bit over 1800 watts for safe continuous operation. (15 Amps x 120 Volts = 1800 Watts, or 20 Amps x 120 Volts = 2400 Watts).

  • @liza5532
    @liza5532 Год назад

    Thank you. I have a question in comparing the two. It seems they might work with different heating technologies which could account for some differences. No one really that I see has talked about this or shows the undersides. But I wonder if the I.P. Works with a heating element (which would need preheating) and does the Mealthy have a light (maybe even halogen? Because it does resemble the Halogen Ovens). And so could you do a bit of a heat.loss experiment by holding your thermometer close to the lids and seeing if one is indeed hotter, which would have power consumption as well as how warm the appliance or nearby things might get, I mean it says on the glass that it’s hot. But is it hotter or not as hot as the tall plastic-looking Instant lid? I love comparison and your communication is excellent. But for so many videos, a lot of info isn’t addressed. It is about like listening to a car review and someone saying this is the red one and this one is blue, and not even mentioning that one is Hybrid and the other runs on only Electric. It’s been a few years? Any amendments to your earlier thoughts? Again, thank you.

      Or i am thinking was the air pressure inside too much?

    Do you know if the Mealthy is safe to use with the Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus? Or do the handles on the insert cause an issue with the lid fitting?

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад +1

      It will absolutely fit. The Mealthy sits on the liner so the handles don't affect it. But just to make sure for you I tested it on my Duo Evo plus and it fits perfectly. Hope this helps.

      That's a great question. I am not sure if the basket that comes with the mealthy has legs tall enough to sit on the trivet above the food. It's worth a try.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад

      Hi. Yes you normally have to flip because it only heats from the top and it's such a small space. If you have the space, I would look into the Vortex Plus or the Omni.

      Hi. Do you mean the Ninja electric Pressure cooker? Since I purchase all my own appliances (sadly I don't get paid by companies and very rarely get free items) it's hard for me to afford to buy other appliances to compare them. I will tell you John Sanders has a great RUclips channel on Ninja products and he loves them. I really think most electric pressure cookers now are pretty comparable with just a few differences in functions and modes (I love the Mealthy 2.0). It's more just what you are looking for and brand loyalty.

The 3rd one I bought so I could do the video for the IP lid because it didn't fit my other 2. The fourth I bought because I wanted an 8 QT (my other 3 were 6 QT) because I use it a lot for sous vide and having a larger pot for extra room to sous 3 steaks at 1 time, really comes in handy.

      Hi! if you have the space for the Vortex Plus, I would get that. It will definitively allow you to do more. but if you can't find the space, the lid is a good compromise. That said, just make sure before you buy the lid, that it will work with your model of Instant Pot.

    So that is not a broiler plate. That is for dehydrating. Also, it shouldn’t be used as a second shelf to air fry.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад

      It's also known as a dehydration tray. And int he manual under accessories to use during each mode, it state you can use the dehydration tray during just about every mode pg 20. It does make more sense as you say, to just use it during broiling. That said, I think it speaks volumes to the lack of instructions with Instant products.

    I think Mealthy has more temp range just because it has to be set at little bit higher temp at a given duration to perform equally.

    Air fryer is a marketing name for convection toaster/ oven.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 года назад

      Ok. I can see how people might think that. I think they are both very similar. But there are soft differences that I believe makes a difference in cooking. Air fryers tend to be smaller, so the circulation of the hot air makes more of a difference in the cooking. But the biggest difference i find is that with an air fryer, the fan is placed directly above the heating coil. This forces the hot air onto the food first before circulating, so it's more like frying. A convection oven usually has the fan on the side or in the back, so it just circulates the hot air in the oven. So to me it's like using a regular oven. I have a convection oven and I rarely use it because it doesn't make much difference imo.
