  • Chris teaches Scott the process of changing the rear window run seals on the sliding rear windows of a first generation Toyota 4runner topper. Chris developed this gasket kit and he explains the benefits of his modern, and revised, seal kit that is now available for purchase.
We know the video is lengthy and we aren't the greatest speakers so please excuse our "uhms"!
Rest assured, this is all of the information you'll need to properly update and seal your rear windows!
This kit is available for purchase on breakbeatgoods.com
    We're on IG too ;)

@@breakbeatautogarage Please help in sourcing or making the rear tailgate weatherstrip that covers the glass when it goes down. Can't seem to find the inner and outer of them anymore. Love the video and going to order this for my side windows.

I'll start with this: Top notch product and I am very appreciative of the video; it was helpful and I would have struggled (more) without it; So thank you! Maybe I am the only one that feels this way, but I found the video painful to get through and felt it was poorly organized. It's my opinion that many parts are poorly described and the commentary is just awkward. I certainly couldn't have done it any better; but some close up shots of the task and more direct, clear instruction would be appreciated. I haven't finished installing the seals yet but one specific place that would have helped me was getting some more advise on where to place adhesive in the 45 and which side of the center divider to place the seal in. That adhesive is a bitch to work with and you get ONE shot, once its adhered, it is in place! and I am pretty sure I have the window sliding portion on the wrong side of the center divider....time will tell when I get the glass back in. thanks for reproducing this piece and the tutorial!

We appreciate the support and are right there with you as far as this production goes. Unfortunately, we're just not "youtubers" and Chris got deep into talking details that aren't even relevant to the installation process. But that's just it, he is the big-brain who made the product and we never said we were good on camera haha! Hope you get the install knocked out and the truck back into use soon! Thank you for snagging a kit! -Scott

Thx for the video and most importantly the link for the window kit! I’m currently gathering parts to restore my 85 SR5 4-Runner and new parts are few and far between for availability! 👍

@breakbeatautogarage actually it didn't work out well. I accidentally damaged the rubber weatherstripping so I had to give up for now. I'll buy another set and let a glass shop do it.

Thanks Chris. I bought this kit from your online store a month or so ago and it's travelled all the way to Christchurch, New Zealand. I'm looking forward to fitting it, and this video will really help. I didn't know about the sashes so that is a great tip!
I agree with Uber Kevin below, a replacement rubber seal kit for the rearward side windows would be great. Any plan in the works for those?
    Keep up the great work!

That's awesome to hear our work has made it all the way around the globe. So glad to have been able to help another Toyota restoration enthusiast! Chris stays pretty busy these days with his day job so he isn't currently developing any new kits. If we can continue to grow this small business through word of mouth from enthusiasts like yourself, maybe he can one day prioritize his time to develop some more great products. Thanks for the support! -Scott

Weatherstripping for the rear side fixed windows would be a great addition. I'll be installing my slider kit after I get the frames back from the paint shop.

Hey I have a 1988 1st Gen 4runner, just repainted my window frames and was wondering if there is any tricks to get your windows to slide smoothly? Mine have always been pretty hard to slide back and fourth.

Peter, check out the installation manuals on our website for a quick walk through of installing the window run kit. Possibly you've got someone slightly out of alignment. If not, shoot us a reply or email and we can try to guide you further! breakbeatgoods.com

received your kit down here in Costa Rica for my '87, but I'm having difficulty locating the butyl cord. I was curious if you could recommend an alternative or is the cord absolutely necessary?

You should be able to source this from amazon or ebay. It's just a universal sealing product - nothing special. If you still need help, comment back! Thanks for the support!
