Boy, I remember the good old days😊 We took her 42 foot diesel pusher and boy did we have a blast! We had all the extras installed on it, including an outdoor shower and television! We boondocks in so many parking lots😂😂 And we ran our air and took showers and everything. Yep we had a generator for it with an inverter and all the good stuff. Yeah buddy those were the good days! I’d give anything to have those days back.😢 I lost my husband to cancer five years ago. But I’m thinking about going back out with my adult son! Selling my home, and hitting the road!👍

Lessons I have learned the hard way.
    1. Maintain control of any pets or children before moving slides.
    2. Always slow down. Speed breaks things. (I have blown tires and run into my RVs)
    3. Hold the grey tanks for last dump them after the black tank to clean out the pipes.
    4. Always have a spare tire.
    5. Make sure you have plenty of money for emergencies! It's not an if but when.
    6. If you're stressed STOP! Take a breath and go again when you're level headed.
    7. If you think you can fit check again!
    8. You can not back up an RV if you are flat towing.
    9. If you have a lot of windows in the winter insulate them.
    10. Protect your pipes they freeze!

Wow, I feel like we can relate to a lot of these 🤔🤣 You hit the nail on the head with these, thank you so much for sharing Joshua! We are sorry you learned the hard way, but you now have a lot of valuable insight to share with everyone!!
We appreciate all of these great comments!! Best to you, talk again soon - Kyle and Renee

Good video guys, but as new RV owner that is still learning, here are a few big things I feel like you should have mentioned.
    1. Make ABSOLUTELY sure that your hot water tank is full before turning on the hot water heater or it could ruin the element and cause very pricy repairs.
    2. Make sure the RV is level before using your slide outs if you have them.
    3. Do not use only the 4 corner stabilizers, you will need extra support such as wheel blocks.
    4. You will most likely need a RV water filter and pressure regulator on your water lines.
    5. You will need to familiarize yourself with the black and grey tank release values. Seems simple but can cause issues if you don't know to release them.
I'm sure there are many more as I am still learning myself, but I feel like these may help someone from making an expensive mistake.

I have one question no one ever mentions. What happens when you’re taking a shower and the waste tank fills up? Do you have to know what your remaining capacity is; and have predetermined space for how long you can take one? Is there a formula?… “Don’t wash the dishes hon! I have yet to get a shower!” That type of deal before we go to the dump station?

    • @HappilyEverHanks
      @HappilyEverHanks  3 года назад +17

That’s a really good question! After a while you can kind of estimate how long it takes to fill up! We had a site with a sewer connection for the first couple of months to get acquainted with it! May need to determine that before attempting boondocking! We can both take about 4-5 showers each before our shower tank fills up (for example). Each rig and people living in it differ! You also usually have separate grey tanks, one for kitchen and one for bathroom! Hope this helps! ~Renee & Kyle

Just found this feed and absolutely love it. I'm a comedy producer who's converting to RV life as a first time for our upcoming tours. My initial question (out of so many) is how does charging laptop/laptop usage work. I get I have a battery in my laptop, but do I need to be connected to power to charge it? Also, with WIFI, what are your recommendations? I wouldn't be at parks much as it'd primarily be parking lots etc.

Great video guys! That’s some great information for new people to RVing. But, don’t forget to recharge that battery! We were dry camping in Shenandoah National Park in November thinking we were all good because we had a furnace. Around 2am the second night, we found the limitation of our battery! 🥶. Thankfully we like each other & were able to keep warm! Looking forward to the next video!

The DOA battery when it cold out stinks, but you only make that mistake once!
I guess a question related specifically to RVing would be, what repairs/breakdowns/service work do you run into? We follow a lot of RVers and one of our favorite travel nurse people seem to constantly have breakdowns and issues. It’s almost a tragic comedy wondering what they are going to break next. We really feel for them. Other than that, what is life like when you’re both on a contract? I know you can’t be planning the next video all of the time. So, what’s the ugly side of work, laundry, school, and life in general? How do you get to work? What if you work different shifts? I guess just what’s the reality?
Hope it’s not too crazy, but you asked!😂
      Chad & Libby

    • @HappilyEverHanks
      @HappilyEverHanks  3 года назад +1

Yeah you sure do only make that mistake once lol being stuck without a running source of heat is just miserable
Great suggestions!! We love hearing this because we would have never known that would be interesting. Honestly we don’t know when our next nursing contract will be, but it would be really great to make some content around a topic like “the day in a life of.”
Seeing the behind the scenes, nitty gritty side of things helps bring that perspective for sure! Awesome, awesome ideas you guys! Thank you Chad and Libby 🙂 you guys rock 👍🏼 - Kyle and Renee

I just wrote this on another video, but feel this is a better video for the topic.
I got my trailer new, and knowing that the battery and propane bottle are dealer installed, not factory I had them install two 6 volt batteries.
    Why buy twice?
I also paid cash for the up grade, because who wants to make payments and pay interest on batteries for the next 12 years?
That took me from aprox 90 amp hrs, to 235 amp hrs.
    Cost me $80 😁👍

Our very first RV as adults and owners of the rig was SHOCKING. We both grew up camping and camped as adults. It was not the being outdoors or camp fire that got us. It was the having the trailer all leveled and as went to put the slide out? Too close to a tree. Then new placement made our sewer hose too short. Then too close to the covered grill area so the canopy wouldn't roll out. IT WAS A MESS. We did this outdoor gig all the time...RV was different. First time had to make an offical deposit? Other person... "GET OUT OF THE TRAILER" Poo Pouri helped but....ya know... Soundtrack. 🙈🤣🤣

We do have solar and dual batteries so we can get by for quite some time. Just thought this should be mentioned because a lot of the new rigs have 12v only refrigerators.

Hey guys! Love this video, so very helpful! How does your battery charge when it gets low?

Hey Amber!! Thank you so much 😊😊🙌🏼 The battery can be charged by either shore power (while hooked up at a campground) or the truck battery (while towing it will charge the battery as well)
Keep these great question and comments coming! Hope to talk to you again soon!!

Great job discussing the basic operations of the RV and questions the beginners may ask. I think you touched on stuff that even helps some folks that have some miles under them. Nice job! Take care Donovan and Jodi

Get rid of your electric can opener. That’s so baby boomer 😆 Oxo makes a great manual, handheld version.

    Hi Guy's 😁
It's Mike and Susan Capps... again. LOL
What do you do to help prevent rodents, spiders etc from getting in your RV?
I saw what you do to keep ants away.
    Thanks so much!!!!💗

@@HappilyEverHanks What about mice, spiders and other critters besides ants.
We bought borax and chalk like you recommended.

Oh absolutely!! We are here for you guys 😀 We are always learning new things as we go as well!! The RV life never ceases with the lessons LOL
YES!! Borax is really great for the outside. I would imagine using a combo of Borax for outside and then using Terro on the inside. Since making this video, we have also learned Dawn dish soap is AMAZING. Might even be better than Borax 🙂

Oh an in reference to the mice, spiders, etc. We don't really have any suggestions for you. Dexter does great at keeping critters away (at least we think) 😸Let us know if you find any good suggestions in your research! We would be grateful to hear your insight

I thought Renee said you had a 90 gallon hot water tank. That would be HUGE., But I guess that was your fresh water tank.

LOL yes that would be sweet though right?! 😂🙌🏼 We were thinking about maybe upgrading to a tankless water heater! Not sure if that is worth the money and investment though?
