Mavis Staples is so influential and yet so underrated it's criminal. This was great but if you haven't heard it already, treat yourself to Mahalia Jackson's version. It's absolutely joyous! ❤

Hi Sarah! "Oh Happy Day" is a1967 gospel music arrangement of the 1755 hymn by Philip Doddridge. Recorded by the Edvin Hawkins Singers, it became an international hit in 1969. Joan Baez performed the song at Woodstock in 1969. Aretha Franklin´s unique voice is made for singing "Oh Happy Day" for me the best version.
Yes, Aretha Franklin was a powerhouse! As to Mavis Staples, you heard her in your great reaction to "The Weight" that featured The Band and The Staples Singers!
I clicked on this one for a wonderful powerhouse duet, and not only did I get that in spades, but I got to enjoy you, Sarah, singing and swaying along! Beautiful song, beautiful reaction! Loved it!
The great - Aretha Franklin - See her bring President Obama to tears at the Kennedy Center Honors with a fantastic live version of ---- > [ Aretha Franklin - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (Live at Kennedy Center Honors) ] - They were Honoring Carol King who was asked to write this song for Aretha.
Have you ever heard Billie Holiday singing a song written especially for her? It's called "Strange Fruit". She also sang about being beaten and mistreated by her man and that one always makes me cry a little. It's called "My Man". She has so much emotion in her voice and her sound is so unique that no one has even come close to sounding like her. Her music got me through a few rough patches and will always be a favourite of mine. Etta James has a voice like warm cream and Billie's voice is raw and open. I hope you listen to these, just for yourself, if not for your channel. Great videos!
I remember listening to this song Back long time ago in the Baptist Church one of the church members turned , and asked me that am I an Christian Child , and I told her man I am today.
There's not many songs you sing along with, and seeing the joy on your face says you were moved by the song and the music. A song that all Christians can rejoice to. Another popular version of this song, popular in the 80's, is here: ruclips.net/video/KJohGa66FJM/видео.html

I think they got that 'how, how, how' from John Lee Hooker - 'Bad Like Jesse James', maybe?
thought you might like to know you made a small typo on Mavis (not Marvis) Staples name.
Mavis is Mother Earth!
How can you say you are Nigerian but you don't react to the music ahhhh ahhh please stop this nonsense
