@@moe9587 great deal! Just start it up in the A.M. make sure it doesn't make a rattling nosie from the timing gears! I test drove a few and they seem to have an engine vibration between 900 and 1000 RPM check that also and see if it's smooth or rough.
@@moe9587 the only other major problems they have or had are: 1. Timing gear rattle which is a $6,000 repair if you want it done. 2. Rubber oil lines should have been replaced with metal ones or they can just shoot all the oil out on the highway. 3. Wheel bearings especially the rear ones wear out first.
In my opinion I don’t like the 2008 highlander or 2010 because in my opinion I don’t like the face. of the front in my opinion looks very weird One thing I don’t like about the used Toyota highlander’s is the seats I they like a little smooshed and I have owned One of these 2008 highlander in my opinion I just don’t like it
@@Oldbass40 there is no way to get that out here in california. I'm looking at a 2009 limited as well but it's 13k with 11900 miles, I think I'm going to get it because Toyota runs forever!!!! I have a 2006 Toyota solara with 200k mileage it stills runs like a beast no major problems yet and I think it will last 300+ miles

I still love mine and hope it lasts a long time. Hopefully you have success with what you end up getting. Covid-19 has made used car prices insane. If you can wait longer I'd bet prices will begin to come down

I just got the exact same model a year ago. the only difference was it had 200,000 miles. I payed 9,000 for mine, but it still runs like a charm. the only downside is that it was from the rust belt ☹️ Illinois. I've had to change out a couple of tie rods, sway bar, and brakes; but overall it was still worth money!
Hi, I’m loving this video and the community of posts that have followed. I just bought my 2009 Highlander limited with 95k miles for $13,950 from a private seller. The interior exterior and engine are in mint condition. The ONLY downside is it spent its life in Wisconsin and appears to have a lot of rust on the underside. My question for @proconjon4208 is: were the replacement of the tie rods, sway bar and brakes the only thing it needed? I just bought mine last week and will be taking it in to a mechanic to get the rust damage evaluated. Just would like to hear more of your experience with the same car from the rust belt. Thanks!

In the left side of the cabin in the Passenger side there is a button that might be off. That button able you open and close the trunk with the key, the button on the door and the button in the dashboard, if it is on.
Has the same engine as my 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited. I also own a 2000 Honda CR-V EX. Out of all the vehicles I've owned in my life, my Avalon and CR-V have been the best.

I bought a new 2009. It has 239000 miles...mostly highway. Only one required tuneup ever. 24.5 mpg...highway. check your under car plate protections as the screws will loosen. Half of the hood has small pits. It's an actual line across it. She really only needs her hood painted. She is good to me. I am 70 yr old, 5 ft, female and always buy new vehicles when warranty is gone. I'll keep her though...great handling....tough...dependable. I hope you enjoy yours.
I have a Toyota Highlander remember you need to clean the air vents for the high voltage battery fan about once a month go on line on you tube watch the video on cleaning and do not under any circumstances put any wet grocery or liquid containers that may have condensation on the second row seat and never put anything on the floor between first and second row seats it will block those vents your battery will start a fire
Just picked up the same trim and model year. I paid 13k but only have 117k miles. This is the 2nd year of the 2nd generation Highlander. I also own a 2014 base model Highlander, the 2nd year of the 3rd generation. Both carry the V6 engine.

@@haleyolsen I do still have both Highlanders. First off, we absolutely love them. I am also familiar with the third generation. But the 2009 is the limited trim level. So it has every available bell and whistle. I believe we are sitting on around 135,000 mi right now. With that being said, I do not take it to the dealer, however, I take it to the local repair shop but do the dealer recommendations. It runs very quiet. We love it. The key to the Highlander is getting the V6.
I ended up figuring out how to open it and it works fine. I had assumed it would automatically open when pulling the handle which it didn't. You had to hold the dash button or use the remote button to open it
So what did you end up doing about your drivers seat? I have the exact same model, Limited with leather seats and I bought some really nice sheep skins. The best decision I ever made. I know they were popular in the 90s and not so much now, but I live in Miami Beach and my back would get so sweaty sitting on that leather, so much better with the sheep skins, and I think they look great.
@@Oldbass40 I would still recommend some high-quality tan sheepskins, so much more comfortable than leather and It protects the seats. Another item I picked up is a cloth cover for the center console. eBay, like $10. Feels great on the arm and the consoles have issues with cracking due to how thin the leather is.

I want one so bad. The 2nd Gen like this has full time ("Subaru like" ) AWD. All the wheels are powered all the time. 1st 3rd 4th gen all have FWD bias AWD. Which is crap.
Edit: after doing mad research. I just found out if there is an oil leak around the Timing chain cover you have to drop the whole engine to replace the seal. And that's a big job average 4k to do. But if yall have that kind of money then go ahead. Same goes for the Rx350 of that Generation. Same engine.

Yeah prices are high. Yes the battery pack on a hybrid will eventually have to be replaced and they're quite pricey. I haven't owned one so I can't say how long they last

Hello, it is a really nice vehicle. It drives and rides different than the CR-V but I do like it. Since it has a 6 cylinder engine it's gas mileage is not very good. I get around 18mpg around town.
They have been done since I got it and the front bumper was repainted. I also found a good used driver's seat and also learned the power tailgate does work I just didn't know how to open it. I really love it
Yep, almost at 200k now. I've had to replace both front wheel bearings, front struts, lower control arm and the dog bone motor mount. Also the AC compressor, evaporator and new seals on the AC lines from front to back.
You’re gonna hate that car once the timing cover starts leaking. No way to replace it without dropping the engine cradle. That’s gonna cost almost what you paid for the car. That’s what I hate about the 3.5 Toyota in this Gen. Super common.
Just paid $200.00 for a one owner garage kept 2009 Highlander sport with 213k miles. Only had passengers a handful of times so it's literally brand new.

The story is my buddy went off the road during icy condition's and it made a bad noise from the rear end after that so he thought it was going to need major work and so did I at the time of purchase but he was planning to have it picked up my the scrap yard for $100 so I offered $200 lol. Turns out the emergency brake bracket had broke in half and it was catching on something. I have less then $500 into it with new parts, a trailer hitch & wiring, insurance and putting it on the road 😂

As I stated it was going to the scrap yard for half what I paid for it and when my buddy found out it was being put on the road he was ecstatic! He didn't need the vehicle and it was GIVEN to him in the first place by his inlaws. Idk what you expect someone who buys something broken from you to do? Fix it and sell it back to you for what you have into it for parts and time because you weren't mechanically inclined enough to fix it? Because that sounds like a "repair shop" and if you wanted to get it fixed and then keep it I think that's where you want to go. If you are the friend selling things and then having regrets so you blame your friends for ripping you off then you sir aren't much of a friend. No disrespect either just trying to put things in perspective for everyone reading comments. Love ya all

Check the switch in the glove box motor is probably fine just not turned back on yet small black button in the closings closest to the driver’s side

Did you check the glove box for the rear door switch before looking into a motor?

I bought a base model with 200k miles, the price is 4700. It has ABS issue.however, it runs smoothly.hope it keeps going well.

I ended up finding a used one at a Salvage yard for only $100. It wasn't in perfect condition but much better than the one in this video
