Back in the 80s and 90s the top players used to go to the towns the week or so before to promote the event with either meet ups at bars or just play games with the locals. I remember it as a kid in Philly. It seemed like a great grass roots effort. The problem is for most people if it's not on Instagram these days it doesn't exist.
I think this is honestly a huge key. Come the full week before (if schedule allows), run clinics, play with the locals, build relationships. Now the players and the AVP have fans for life
@@SANDCASTPodcastwhen I first started playing and became more in tune with the pro players and the personal time to be coached by pros etc that was a game changer for me to follow thru with my personal learning curve and knowing I had access to the highest level information. When I started to meet players and started hearing the obstacles they were experiencing in their careers. I would make suggestions all the time to them such as “you know how cool it would be if you and your partner randomly showed up on beaches and simply asking to join in on games of random get together etc.? All I ever wanted to do was to partner with a highest level player possible to be able to play with someone that has ball control. And who better than the best of the best or for that matter how cool is it to challenge yourself to get a dig, block or spike against a high level player and especially a semi pro or full time pro? I think that would be the simplest of simple ways to create fans. Go create them by playing with all kinds of unrated thru AA players up and down the beaches. Just say hey we happen to be in the area and would love to join you guys in your games, would that be cool? Don’t even advertise that you are a pro just play your game and let them figure it out. Would create so much loyalty and fanship. I’ve never seen any pros do that besides someone like a Mark or Brandon doing it in conjunction with their trainings they offer or other coaches jumping into side out or the drills with their students.
We really need an AVP reality show. So many funny things that happen to this beach volleyball world.
That idea has been pitched many many times haha
