    Thanks for showing the before and after of the cracked pipe and what you did. I wanted to see how you used the Franco connectors on PVC to Cast Iron. I currently have a cracked/leaking bathtub to main pipe leaking bad. Got to cut out the old 1940s cast iron and replace with PVC/Franco like you did. You video gave me some more ideas and built up my confidence a little more!

    Geez, replace both stacks in a house you just bought. What a nightmare. But with the homes being that old, all the infrastructure (water, sewer, gas, etc.) is at the end of it's life. I'm shocked how big of a crack it became overnight. But good job brother!

    Great job fixing that in such tight quarters. I own an 86 year old home and have to deal with these kinds of issues from time to time. Its good for viewers to see what you are dealing with and how you solved it.

    There were no weird 45’s😂 those were 22 1/2’s Turns out the seller was there during the inspection along with the buyer= my customer. The seller was following the inspector around telling war stories!? No excuse in my eyes! If you look at the first pipe we replaced that goes in the cinder block I didn't say in the video but obviously that was a patch we removed so the seller knew about the crack and didn't disclose. Also the second pipe we removed that started leaking upstairs you can see that was previously opened and covered with newer drywall. The weird wet stains everywhere on the cast fittings joints I'm now thinking were from some kind of a solution test or bubble leak test.

    The rest of the pipe kept cracking because of the vibrations of the reciprocating saw you probably used to cut the lower sections with. Those rusty old pipes are very brittle and will crack with the smaller vibration. It's best to use chain soil pipe cutters.

    • @PHL_Brownstone
      @PHL_Brownstone  10 месяцев назад +3

      Would never be able to get a chain cutter in there. I showed in the video a rot path in the pipe and that’s exactly where it cracked. It was shot and probably would’ve cracked with or without vibration

    A large percentage of home inspectors are clowns.

  • @Dominicanito6
    @Dominicanito6 2 года назад +2

    The inspector very much should've seen that.
    Its right out in the open and all you need is a close look at the line with a flashlight to find it. Once you see one crack you should also recommend the line be scoped from the roof to the street to be sure its all in tact.
    I see quite a few of these on my inspections, almost one every week.

    I just purchased a home a year ago & had the same problem. The inspectors manager wouldn’t let me speak with him & said they only check for surface level issues. I paid for a scope test & they failed to do the test. I was able to detect the crack in the cast iron with a flashlight.. It’s been a year & i’m Still having sulfur smell issues & i’m looking to come out of thousands to dig up my sewage line & figure out what the problem is.

      I wouldn’t know without seeing the situation. I’m not a plumber. I’m more of a list man. People give me a list of things they need done and I try to handle it as cheap as possible. But I can tell you if you watch enough RUclips videos and take a little bit from each video you can probably DIY

    That pipe had like 60 years to crack, why would it wait till the day after you taped it to crack like that, any ideas? I have one that I have to repair but I am afraid that if I touch it, I might have to call you.

    • @PHL_Brownstone
      @PHL_Brownstone  3 месяца назад +1

      I noticed before I taped the open crack there was a rotten trail leading up the pipe to the next bell. I didn’t notice any kind of support holding the pipe. I believe the PVC pipe in the basement couldn’t hold the weight and settled a bit allowing the pipe to finish cracking in the rotten trail

    • @BillAnon
      @BillAnon 3 месяца назад

      @@PHL_Brownstone That's what I fear the most as a non-plumber. Seems to me that the weight of a cast iron pipe is too much for PVC in the basement.

      Goes up to two newly renovated bathrooms that would need to be gutted! I already gutted and renovated the basement including digging up the front of the house to waterproof. Now I'm on the first floor putting half of that back together😂 You have to step up 2" to go into the newly renovated bathrooms so obviously there are major problems up there also plus when you flush the toilet water comes out of the shower 🤣obviously the previous owner thought he was a diyer to sell the house!
