    Just a tip to add to this.... BEFORE putting dirt back in trench you should lay a bed of gravel under pipe and then around pipe. This keep the backfill you put in to fill trench from sinking weeks down the road and leaving a trench!

      I think he will be fine though since he didn't appear to remove any of the existing dirt from below the pipe. So, the ground is already pretty much settled.

    Great job, two suggestions next time you do it maybe in 50 years, put sand underneath the pipe to prevent it from settling, and instead of no hub fittings get PVC couplings. Great job nice video

  • @elmono3939
    @elmono3939 10 месяцев назад +14

    Good job. You saved yourself few thousands of dollars. Your wife must be proud of you! But, you are obviously a homeowner, not a plumber. Few things: the rubber couplings are nice, but I'd use No Hub shielded couplings instead. Also, the stainless steel bands have to be torqued to 60lbs of pressure. You could not possibly reach 60lbs with that tiny screw driver.( (@9:00 ). You should have use nut driver that is preset to 60lbs of torque. Lastly, @9.15 - that bend is missing 22 1/2 degree PVC fitting. You just flexed your rubber coupling instead to get that angle. That may be a potential problem in the future. But otherwise, thumb up ! PS: that 2" kitchen clean out will do absolutely nothing as it is installed couple of feet from the main pipe. To be effective, it should be installed withing 2' of the house foundation.

    Just had my sewer line replaced from the out side of the house to the street by an installer. In your area the soil is very soft and mine is all clay and rock. Could never dig through it by hand. Need a backhoe. Next it has to be inspected by the sewage authority. The project cost me 6,000.00 because of tree roots. If I ever buy another house again I will see where all the utilities in the ground are before I buy.

      might be a better option is hire plumber to mark the line using camera ($250 - they usually say they will deduct it if you do the job with them); ask them in details how they would do it to get to know the coding in the local area then do it yourself. By viewing the camera with them, you have better idea if you need to replace the hole pipe or just a section since their interest will be convincing you to replace the whole thing and you have some info to make a better decision.

      You can use ABS or PVC pipes.

      @@Eastbaypisces the rubber fitting you can see him using (I specialize in sewer rehabilitation) so I see this day in and day out, those fitting tend to move and offset over time rather it offset facing the flow of the water or opposite it can eventually cause whole home stoppages depending how severe the offset is. It may last a few years (depending on the soil it’s layer in and how often the ground shifts) but ultimately it will have to be dug up and repaired again vs if you use a similar band that has a “metal jacket” that isn’t as easy to offset over time.
