Depending upon where you live the hydrants are dry so people backing into them won’t have massive water damage their bolts are made to break so limited damage to main water system. Firefighters KNOW that close by usually in middle of street there’s a gate valve that turns the water on to the hydrant most important is the gate key usually in fire truck

As someone who works in public safety and emergency management it’s killing me seeing how badly this entire situation was handled from officials. They screwed up and heads are going to roll, no doubt about it. I knew from day one when looking at the polygons on the PBS WARN alerting map that the entire downtown area was never sent any wireless alerts to evacuate.

It's hard to comprehend the level of failures and barriers to even mitigating the level of destruction. 4 years ago I would have thought just a melody of errors combined with bad luck. In 2023 I've become increasingly cynical. Not knowing the geography of that side of the world too well I'm thinking, is that a strategic piece of land? Is it an ideal location to set up another US military base of sorts? Was the disaster intended? I sincerely hope not. There are far too many instances of cities, towns etc burning to the ground (climate/violence related) where wealthy conglomerates 'fix' the problem by acquiring the land and rebuilding new cities to add to their coffers.

Never heard of the sirens being used for other than Tsunami warnings. Say they set them off, then the survivors would say the sirens warned them not to go towards the water. I see a lot of people blaming emergency services, but it's time to realize that when seconds may mean life or death, emergency services are minutes away.

There's a big case for liability in the Maui fire. So where the fire started in lahina is above on the hillside. Where the fire started most likely by transformer or downed electrical line. Also the owners of the land between where the fire started and the town used to be all sugar cane used to be c and h sugar cane was grown there on Alexander and Baldwin property. Alexander and Baldwin are the owners of the property of these several thousand acre fields and they leased to C&H to grow sugar cane.
Once it got an economically unviable to grow sugar cane on the island, they pulled out, C&H pulled out okay. So that left those thousands of acres bare. Alexander and Baldwin, the owners, did find some new tenants to come in and grow on some of those lands, some of those thousands of acres, but the Alexander Baldwin Co. kept like 7000 acres, like that above Lahaina, so what happened was the grass grew. The Alexander And Baldwin Co. did not mow the field, they didn't water the field. Did not plant the field. They didn't take care of the field, so invasive or natural grass grew up. wasnt mowed down and just left there to dry out during the dry season, and so when electrical pole goes down or a transformer blows....Yeah, it's gonna shoot some sparks around. Here's the deal. MECO the Maui electric company knows that there's gonna be a hurricane and lines or poles or transformers damaged. Every hurricane season.
They're gonna get hit by at least high winds if not the hurricane itself. Most of The times if a hurricane actually gets really close it rains and no fires. This time, because the hurricane was far away, it only brought wind and even on that side of the island it would have been dry wind. So that is something that MECO knows can happen. They know they're gonna get hit. And yet they put Poles and wires up into the air and send electricity through them. Especially when there's high winds, they could be De-energized. You know, cut customers off in those times. The Company wouldn't be very popular to do that, but what happens is those poles break, blown down trees blow into them, things happen, right?
    Acts of god do happen.
But if you know this is about to happen and dont act then you are culpable. Meco knows that's gonna happen, so they order hundreds of new power Poles every year because they know they're gonna be replacing Poles. See, they know that this is gonna happen yet Instead of burying the utilities... instead of putting the electrical lines in the ground not up in the air. (Which might cost them a little more over a 100 years, or whatever they could get a federal or state grant or loan for burying the utilities) they decided Nah, we're just gonna do it the old-fashioned way here on an island that always gets hit by hurricanes... it's negligence. Damn, they are liable they'd better have a lot of insurance because right now the bill is 5.5 billion to repair replace rebuild Lahaina. 5.5 billion. They better have really good insurance with them and Alexander and Baldwin. They better have really really really good insurance cause they owe Lahaina everything!
Oh, btw the State Attorney General is investigating this... and we need to hold the AG's feet to the fire! (quite literally)

They WANT to come in, look for their dead and maybe salvage some belongings. Please train them on the basics of search and recover! THEN GEAR THEM UP, LET THEM IN!

People jumping into the ocean to escape fast moving fires is a scene reminiscent of Australia's summer bush fires just two years ago. Any community close to bushland should assess if their local firefighting service and their evac plans is still adequate in the face of a more extreme climate.

The fire hydrants could have been dried for months, since the drought took over. The water lines could have burnt at some other section and no one would have known. I doubt if someone purposely turned them off! As for the sirens, fire must have gotten to the stations where the switch is to turn them on. Those places could have caught on fire too and those there had no time to turn on sirens. Or because of the heat was so intense, it just knocked out power. Let's not jump into the BLAME GAME, right at this time. This is a time to focus on getting our loved ones remains, and finding out who is who, and make plans to rebuild if possible. Am sure the governor is just as perplexed as we all are! Remember, this is the worst scene in U.S. history, not since 9/11 or WW2 has anyone had this much devastation and loss of life!

If every person who is still missing are dead, the death toll would be under 500. This is a horrible disaster, but it's what happened. No need to try to sensationalize it by saying that actually thousands have "literally" died, or that little green men from Mars did this. This was a natural disaster that took lives. It's sad, but this happens all over the world. America is not exempt from natural disasters. Every year we lose people in tornadoes, flash floods, earthquakes, wild fires in California, etc. Don't make it worse than it is. It's bad, but you are not helping by sensationalizing it.

I have been to Maui several times in the past and I love it. I had questions about how such extensive damage could occur in an instant, so I watched this video and now I understand the cause. There have been abnormal conditions, strong winds, and other factors in the past few days, but the fact that the hydrant had no water is a local government issue. With this situation, even if the fire trucks had arrived, firefighting wouldn't have been possible. Of course, the fire station and firefighters themselves are also affected, so I imagine firefighting efforts were hindered...

    51. But the day of the Lord will come LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 1 Peter 3.10 - 12

Thee locals ARE educated, thats why many were still able to hold off for so long until now. Sounds to me like that made some people with special interests upset because this whole crisis reeks of colonialism/capitalism.

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: As wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.But let them rejoice before God: Yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

I'd suggest James 2 is more relevant: "Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
