Hi there... Congrats and if you don't mind me asking ... Was the exam hard? How many questions were there? Were you already in this profession just not certified? And last do you have any tips or advice for me? I'm just starting school in California in August ..thank you in advance and congrats again😊🍾👏🏻👍🏻
I'm an RN with 24 years experience and I work for a trauma level 1 hospital here in southern California. 3 months ago I took a supervisory position in Central Processing Service. My only experience dealing with central service before I took this position was picking up and returning supplies/equipment / instruments to this department. I was overwhelm with the amount of information I needed to learn to be able to perform my job expectations. Fortunately, with my nursing background I was able to grasp the principles and concept fairly well. Additionally, while searching to broaden my knowledge, I came across these wonderful, informative and easy to understand lectures from Steve. Thank you Steve for doing what you do. You are so gifted in sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience to us. You are such a wonderful teacher!!! I wish you can be cloned so that more can benefit to what you do. Can you recommend any textbook that I can use as a reference material? Again thank you for being an awesome educator.
NOVEN LAZARO iahcsmm has a decent book set if you go on their website it will be there together with the workbook. Thank you for the complements, I appreciate it. Steve

Ive just started to watch this video and its really big help for us who worked in hosp as CSSD Sterile Technician.AWESOME,, thank you very much BCI and sir STEVE.
I love the way he teaches .. I wish I was in Boston to be in his class. What are some areas that need more focusing in studying for the board exam. I'm learning from the 6 edition textbook .
Depends on the immediate needs of your department. However, usually the managers assign people for a full day of work in a specific area except for decontamination area where work is physically taxing.
I wish you were my teacher! Im gonna take the next CBSPD exam!! And i am going to watch all your videos because it helps a lot! Thank you for doing this!
@@BostonCareerInstitute thank you so much!! Actually I got a few questions if you dont mind. Which one do you prefer for new students to take for certification CBSPD or IAHCSMM? Any website recommendations for practice test? And thanks again for posting your lectures it helps a lot with students like me! God bless you!
Thank u 4 ur time and effort to make learning fun and enjoyable. I am watch most of ur videos .very informative. I wish u can make 1 video about terminology coz I find it a bit difficult.thank u 👍🏽👒
Wow!!! He is amazing!!! I'm in a surgical technology program in Chicago and they require us to know a good load of sterile processing so watching this video, I already know a lot of what he is talking about and a lot that I did not know. He is a great instructor. I'm watching these videos because in the summer I will be taking a sterile processing clinical course required in the surgical tech program and I'm wondering what it's like in CSPD.
it is an excellent natural extension to surge tech that has a much higher pay potential. I had a few surge techs work for me and they were awesome in CPD. I highly recommend it for you. PS, thanks for the complement :)
I took the course over 7 years ago and worked in the field as management then as a tech but in limited areas decon...and case carts. I want my cert and studying edition 7 ...i know we suppose to have 8 but funds are limited do you have courses from chapter one to 25 I can watch because just studying on my own I don't feel as confident as if I would be watching an instructor rasheed@trestonemarketinggroup.com
first thanks for the videos...question...where in decontamination room ( in hospitals) should the personal protective equipments be kept? Isnt there supposed to be a small gowning up positive air pressure room close to decontamination room? i have seen in lot of hospitals the PPEs are kept in the same decontamination room. in such a setting, arent those PPEs already contaminated?
Stumbling around RUclips, I bumped into your videos while maybe thinking about working in a hospital. Steve, you are responsible for introducing me to the field that I am now taking a summer class, and interning at a big hospital. We have a test tonight, and I'm reviewing with the aid of some of your excellent videos. I plan to take nationals this August, so I shall return. I've shared your links with other students. We all enjoy and appreciate having another instructor, although we all feel we have a tremendous instructor, with many years in the field. Oh by the way, you and our instructor, at a local state community college, do not ever say anything contradictory about each other's lecture content or the book's info.
No this class was taught to the staff of the sterile processing in one of the largest teaching hospital in US ( not mentioning names ) 400 hours are done separately.
Just got declined for a SPT job. I’m confused as to why? Maybe someone else can point it out? I have a HS diploma, 10 years (cleaning/sanitation/OSHA training) in a healthcare setting, two employee of the year awards, employee of the month awards, monthly online in servicing, will obtain both certs once hired (bc it’s a hands on/on the job certification training?), and all other required experiences met. While watching many other RUclips videos on the job title, many comments said they had zero experience and were hired. Just was told today that I wasn’t qualified!? I was really looking forward to working as this! I am really sad they passed me up, I work really hard and need a new career. ☹️. I told my family I was really looking forward to working as this position and praying for it. Someone tell me what I need to do so I can pursue it, please. 🙏🏻😞 Do I have to take the training *beforehand*?
First things first, analyze the questions you were asked and how you answered them. You were invited to the interview based on your resume, so the employer was aware of your credentials. It must have been something in your presentation that they didn't find to be a good fit for them. Don't despair, learn from your experience and reapply elsewhere. Naturally, certification is a plus but it is not yet nationally required. Keep at it and you will succeed.
Boston Career Institute (BCI Inc.) - Brookline Ty for responding, but I wasn’t even interviewed or called. They emailed me today saying, ‘thanks but no thanks’, essentially. My resume and cover letter were both proof read by career professionals.
Oh, lord. He manages to get a few things right, but ... Water is not a "wetting agent". A wetting agent is something that is added to a liquid to reduce its surface tension, which helps it to penetrate and spread. Detergents used for cleaning are usually very good wetting agents. Water in cleaning is a combination of a solvent and a means of applying mechanical force to dislodge and carry away gunk. A conductivity meter only responds to ionic solutes, not non-ionic solutes. A so-called total dissolved solids (TDS) meter is a reasonable way of testing water from a still or reverse osmosis system, since such water will have very low levels of non-ionic solutes. Amylase digests starches, not simpler carbohydrates. Simpler carbohydrates are water soluble, so there is no need to digest them to facilitate removal. Lipases aren't really very useful in instrument cleaning - detergents do a better job, in general. Proteases are useful, since protein deposits on instruments can be very difficult to remove. Most instrument detergents with enzymes added contain only proteases. Not all bacteria are motile and not all of those that are motile move by means of flagella. The amount of visible light in the decontamination area isn't going to have much effect on survival of microorganisms. The bright light is necessary so people can see what they are doing in the manual processes. The sorter wavelengths (ultraviolet) that are microbiocidal are also hazardous to humans.
Gosh.... what ever prompted you to write this? Does your comment actually assist anyone in understanding the material required to pass the national boards for sterile processing? Seems unlikely! If you can't contribute anything positive to that end please refrain from sharing your thoughts.

+Boston Career Institute (BCI Inc.) - Brookline Yes I am certified and I agree with you about the board questions. However, unless these people in the video were going to take the exam the following week, all that info was really unnecessary. Lastly, I agree that many infections are caused in hospitals each year, but this is mainly due to laziness and improper cleaning. But anyone that can identify instruments and wash dishes can master this job in a month. Great information, but let's not pretend this job requires a Doctoral degree.
silky slim23 not pretending it requires a doctoral degree at all. the job does require a solid baseline knowledge of science in order to NOT be considered a trained ape washing dishes. indeed all people in that video were slated to take the board exam and that is exactly what the videos are for. lastly, there's nothing like pride in what you do. pride comes from a sense of accomplishment and belonging. National certification is key, knowledge is key, being able to answer questions and challenges from other healthcare professionals is also key. This is the only way to make people understand that this is not washing dishes and why laziness has no place in CPD, people's lives depend on it. It is a key to better pay as well.
