    In case anyone was wondering, as i didn't see it mentioned in the description: this canal clean up is in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. These volunteers get together most Sundays to work through the various canals. There is a write up about them on the Al Jazeera news site.

    The city leaders should be ashamed for not having this cleaned by PAID workers. If it's cleaned at least once a month it would not look this way.

      @@SHARON-B That would be nice, but there's always going to be rubbish that escapes, things that blow out of bins in storms, people dropping things by accident, animals breaking open trash, etc, so even in a world where everyone is responsible for there rubbish you still need cleanup crews to catch what falls through the net. Not to mention, a lot of these clean ups were largely clearing out the overgrowth of waterways that just hadn't had maintenance, causing them to be blocked by living plants and natural debris like leaves and twigs. Surely you're not going to accuse the trees of littering, right?

The government ? It sure need to take actions, but actions wouldn't be necessary if PEOPLE did not decide to live like animals in a pile of trash full of worms and deadly bacteria

      ⁠@@pc750-V4 It can happen, you have no idea what the US roads looked like in the 70’s and 80’s. It was common for people to throw fast food bags and trash out of their cars on the roads. It takes time but it can happen. The US roads are amazingly clean now.

      ​@@JMJ.516Yeah, we sent most of our garbage to be recycled by China, who eventually had to stop taking it because the volume of trash produced was more than the products manufactured from recycling.

    What an amazing job, all the volunteers should be very proud of themselves and each other. The local residence of this town should be utterly ashamed that they let their town canal and streets get into this condition. There is no excuse

      While many scientists are spending money researching how to restore the canal, this team of volunteers rushed to clean up and I also responded, but I cleaned up abandoned houses.

Authorities need to come up with a waste infrastructure and waste management system and people need to be educated and fined if they dont follow the rules. And then the canals need to be cleaned up and a plan needs to be made to keep it clean and make it healthy again and locks and pumps probably need to be built to regulate the waterlevel, increase flow to flush them and waste collection points where natural debris can flow to to be easily taken out and simple waste barriers like this, thanks to scientists

      @@RelaxingABC-gu9bi Need harsh government penalties and fines for businesses or people that do this. It won't eliminate the problem, but it reduces it significantly. Here in the US you can get a hefty ticket for littering. Again, doesn't eliminate the issue, but it does mitigate it significantly. There's very few places, even in cities, that look anything like this. Usually these places are on private property out of view.

    Thank you to all the amazingly beautiful young ladies and guys, whom without consideration for their own health and welfare, jumped into this cesspool of a waterway and cleaned it ouy! You are all amazing and deserve to be rewarded as a group, for your dedication. Here in Australia, there would probably be more reasons given as to how to avoid the task than simply getting in and doing it. You are amazing people! Love watching how these dedicated young girls cleaned up their personal protective work wear at 118 on, some simply stunning and selfless ladies.

      By respecting the nature environment we will get more healthy.. Next generations need to learn from such mistake to not be repeated.. full Respect to all involved to clean that drain canal.. the main problem is where they took to dump all that stuff they clean out ?

    nice clean up . have to ask, how long before ppl start throwing their trash in again? the clean up is nice , but you need to educate about proper trash disposal, otherwise it's work for nothing

    The total neglect over a long period of time leads to these massive buildup that choke the canal. After these huge effort of cleanup, regular maintenance should be deployed to prevent the recurrence of a choked and polluted canal and negate the amazing work done by these volunteers. The transformation of these cleanups is awesome.
