- In this video we head to the 2023 VSCC Loton Park speed hillclimb to spectate while all manner of vintage cars battled with each other and against the stopwatch to grab FTD, or Fastest Time of the Day - either overall, or specifically in their class.
During our day at VSCC Loton Park I grabbed a chat with the owner of a wonderful Ford-powered racing car, the 1929 Empy Special, and in the roadgoing vintage car parking area I found the proud owner of a lovely 1920s Austin Heavy 12/4, both conversations make it into this upload. You'll also find extensive paddock walkarounds plus footage of cars completing their climbs - all in all, a grand day out was had at the 2023 VSCC Loton Park meeting.
VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) cars taking part included various Austin 7 and Riley specials, the aforementioned Empy Special, several early American cars (including a Dodge), Lagondas, Bugattis, Frazer Nashes, plus a number of vintage hillclimb specials built specifically with hillclimbing in mind, and many more.
There were quite a few interesting old cars to be found in the Loton Park public car park area too, so quite a few of them make an appearance in this video. The Goodwood Revival took place over the same weekend so that depleted numbers slightly, but there were still plenty of vintage racers out at Loton Park to make it a great day's entertainment.
I'll include links to the '22 and '21 VSCC Loton Park hillclimbs at the end of this upload, where you'll find a further variety of cars competing at this venue.
If you like historic motorsport you'll find quite a few relevant uploads here on the Old Classic Car channel now, see the links below to find out more. Examples include VSCC meetings at Prescott, various activities at Oulton Park, Goodwood Revival, and more.

Outstanding, I'm reposting it everywhere.
Thanks, that really helps
@@oldclassiccarUK New subscriber and I am posting it also...
What a wonderful collection of machinery! The Bugatti with its unique sound is my star of the event. EVs eat your heart out! Love the way the inner front wheel lifts on some cars in the more enthusiastic cornering!
More of that hudson next time!🤤
Thaks for sharing this. Very enjoyable
Glad you enjoyed it
If you've ever wondered why there are roads thorough the deer park and the foundations of demolished buildings in the woods: Loton Park was used for the storage of heavy munitions (WMDs) during WW2. Blockbuster, Grand Slam & Tallboy bombs were hidden away, far from populated areas.
Ah yes I had heard something about munitions a while back, there are the remains of several buildings in the trees like you say
This is how to spend a rainy Sunday morning in the north of Scotland. Perfect .
Thanks for watching!! (raining here too today)
That was a great event and very nicely review. Thanks Bob
Thanks Bob!
Excellent event and video
They don’t come any better than this
Thank you😮😮😊
Very kind of you to say so
some very special cars in that lot, like the Ford Empy special, but the Rileys are my favourite.
Such a great video. Great editing and crisp color!!
Thanks so much! We hope to do it all again this year
A great day out at one of my favourite hill climbs. I was there on the Sunday.
I again thank you for a wonderful day out great cars great videos and TG great weather i hope you both home safely i am sure you had tired arms and cold feet once again loved the video.
we need more video of old tyres. Great video thanks!
I'll see what I can do!! there are a few dotted around here, some dating back to WW2 :)
Loved the chats with the owners, hearing the histories of the cars is amazing.
Thanks, it's always fun to find out the back stories to some of the car shown
Wonderful video, Richard. Magnificent cars in the pit area and superb photography of the cars in action on the hill. Very much appreciated seeing these superb cars in action.
Thanks for supporting the channel Nev!
Great show! Very enjoyable.......................U.S.A
Thanks Jon!
Rick, the timing blade fitted to the front of sprint & hillclimb cars is a "Burt Strut" named after Patsy Burt (who won the 1970 British Sprint Championship). It was actually invented by her husband (& mechanic), Ron Smith in 1967.
Ahhh I see, thanks!
Loved the Ladybug.... but you really should have that arm looked at !!! 😊
What a wonderful event! The weather looked fabulous for a hillclimb. No apologies necessary for Goodwood drawing some cars away. These were terrific examples of the era for trials cars, I thought. I do love Rileys tho.
Thanks, yes it was good do, if you've not seen them the previous Loton Park vids from '21 and '22 are worth a look
@@oldclassiccarUK Yes, I have seen them. It's great to see vintage racers out and doing what they were intended to do.
Well filmed sir, great action’s shots from various positions, splendid film
Thank-you kindly
Thanks for posting Rick. Nothing beats an "aural assault" by a blown Type 35 at one of these events. The unusual looking red vehicle, number 137 seen at 54.59 must have a NZ connection as the name on the petrol tank "Katipo" (with an accent over the o) is the Maori name for a native NZ spider with a red stripe down its back (poisonous little beggar too).
Ah right I'll keep an eye out for that one in future, thanks for watching
The VSCC meets at my local pub The Star Inn Copmere end, (just round the corner from the Eccleshall show venue) 1st Wednesday of the month and Saturday afternoon in the summer. They turn up in ordinary cars from now until March but on the lighter nights there are some "Bobby dazzlers" on the car park.
Yes I've heard good things about that meet, must try and get to it when the weather is better
Good one RJ. I especially enjoy the chats you have with the owners at times. They add a whole new dimension to the channel.
Thanks - it helps that I've yet to find an owner that isn't keen to talk about their P&J :)
Thanks Richsrd . Thoroughly enjoyable and great to chat to the drivers/owners too . No roll bars for these racers !
Yup roll bars usually look terrible on older single seaters IMO
bloody hell mate, you dont half get around, think ive seen 100 videos this week and at some point or another...... oooooo thats a right bobby dazzler ;) lol
Mr. Oldcastle and Horace.
Indeed, still have all my books :)
I'm guessing you had a great day there? 😀
Not too shabby! :)
What is bagel time? We are on Central Standered time down our way.. I read the Gumdrop tales to my younger son and we both enjoyed them.
Any time is bagel time!
Lovely machines but those clunky helmets look out of place and seriously restrict vision in my limited experience.
Another cracking video! Great to see all this old metal still being driven hard!
Indeed, the sights (and smells) are fab
No thanks. Not for me. Not a complaint, just an opinion.
No probs, no-one is going to like everything that gets uploaded but hopefully most of the content is agreeable.
