Ah yes. XYZ will always be fondly remembered as my very first CD ever - when I never looked back at cassettes ever. I purchased a 1991 Pioneer 6-pak multi-CD player (which still works beautifully) and I needed a solid metal album to give it a listen - but there was very little released to CD at this time. I recall shopping endlessly for CDs, and while Terry says the record label was small, I could not escape XYZ promo posters and front facing kiosk CD retail promo displays of XYZ - they looked like the next big thing before I even heard their first song. I finally rolled the dice after hearing "Inside Out" and knew I made a solid purchase right after the first intro chords and vocals of "Come On and Love Me". Such vivid memories of this band and their first album. I recall when I purchased the second album, because it was the start of me seeing a divide in my CD purchases - "Hungry" in one hand and Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" in the other - I'm not sure anyone remembers but they were released on the same month in 1991. And as much as I was liking the Seattle scene, I never ended my love for the thunderous drums and monstrous guitar silos of XYZ. Much too long of a post/comment but this raises my question. As much as everyone wants to know about where is White Lion's Vito Bratto - where is Marc Diglio from XYZ and what every happened to him? He was a guitar monster that disappeared. Would love that interview Jason!
Cool! I went to the same High School as Marc Diglio in North haven, CT and he was about 3 years older than me. As far as I knew he was working in carpentry and construction, but that was 20 years ago.
@@vg3203 Thanks so much for the update. Inquiring minds simply want to know! Unfortunate though to get the sense he gave up on slinging the axe. I sense a bad, tainted experience with the music industry is to blame.
@@brianhalk5035 Yeah, it's sad what the grunge era did to Metal & hard rock bands. My band was still being discriminated against in the early 2000's because our music was considered "too 80's". I guess if you've got a great singer, good songs and some talent it's not a good thing. Rock On Brother!
Brilliant interview again Jason am so enjoying these. Terry has some pipes I love those 2 XYZ Albums. Bands are such complicated beasts it seems a crazy decision to let him go they really did build that band back up again after that horrible fire. Would love to see another xyz album
I have never listened to Terry talk. I was pleasantly surprised on how cool and humble down to earth kinda guy that he is. Another great job by Jason. Looks like i will be visiting your channel more often. Keep wasting our time Jason. Thanks.
Another great interview! I saw Terry perform with GW a few years ago in Ohio and he knocked it out of the park. He also won over the people on my group who were unfamiliar with him using his voice and performance skills. That said, I failed to look into his work. I am now going to do that! Seems to be an authentic, hardworking guy who has integrity. And I agree big time with the discussion at the end regarding being thankful for more hygienic practices!
Love Terry...such a talented singer...I was there at the Summerfest show in Milwaukee...the PA system was sketchy & went out a couple times...Terry was an absolute professional and just kept soldiering forward until it was fixed...and then he knocked it out of the park...I remember reading the news that following Monday...couldn't believe it...best of luck Terry! Great interview Jason.
Excellent interview! But I’m fairly certain he was hoping to play a little music and sing. He kind of inferred twice (that I can recall)....but I don’t think you got the hints! lol Loved hearing his stories on how XYZ started (wished that they could still do something but It didn’t sound like it’s in the cards)...and then how the rest of his career has gone. It was cool learning about all of the other avenues of music and voiceovers he has done. His voice is so good...XYZ was such an underrated band.
I heard XYZ wanted Don Dokken to produce their 2nd album, but, after the guys said in the press that all Don did was sit around and drink wine during the making of their debut album, Don said piss off.
What a great guy Terry is, again, another super, unexpectedly great interview! Terrible how Great White dropped Terry. Anyhoo, all the power and best of luck to Terry. What a great musician. Inside Out - still rocks, and is my fave
awesome that a victim from the station fire still supports the band and doesn't blame them. especially since it wasn't the band GW that played that night, but Jack's solo band. most people don't know that. but the band GW get the blame and suffer from it.
I am not a fan of Great White albums with Terry, but the live clips from 2012 I found were pretty impressive. I mean, REALLY impressive. To me, Mitch Malloy sounds dead wrong singing classic GW songs. And I've seen them live with Jack a few times.
Stryper was likely the biggest band that Engima had. Enigma had Stryper, Ratt, Barren Cross, Guardian, Mass, XYZ, Poison (whose contract got bought by Capital). Greenworld was the distribution company as I recall. I believe they disti'd Motley, Ratt, Great White and others. For a period, Enigma was a shaking things up out there.
Terry ill be your new official guitarist give me the chance dude you have one of the greatest voices in metal/rock voices you name the time and place/studio in America ill make the magic happen man love your work man
Kudos to Terry he deserves way better than he got from Great White. He’s had many ups and downs in his career but always stays positive and still has the pipes. Mitch is a decent singer from his solo stuff but I’m sorry he sounds like crap singing Great White songs it’s a terrible fit. Like Terry said it’s hard replacing Jack as he is the voice of Great White but Terry has way more of a bluesier voice then Mitch ever will. Even Jack has stated that at least Terry did it his own way and gave Mitch the shaft. To me Mitchs stage presence and look is a rip off of Steven Tyler. It’s hard enough to replace a singer especially someone like Jack that sang all these iconic Great White songs , but to try and do it a third time to me is suicide unless they get Jack back. I believe Van Halen is the only band that did well with Sammy but still had people that took sides but when they tried to do it a third time with Cerrone it failed. Motley tried with Corabi and even though there was some that it excepted him it was still a big failure. Good honest interview here Jason, enjoyed it.
I am so enamoured by Terry. I never did see a show, or listen to the GW albums, only because I still have issues with the guys in the band, especially after what they did to Jack. I did have a conversation with Terry in the beginning and let him know that I thought he was amazing but I'll never see him play in the band and he was very understanding. A class act. Much too good for the phonies in GW. I didn't know until just now that they played dirty with Terry, but I'm not surprised at all. Sad. But kind of cool for me because now I can follow Terry's career and see him play. Lastly, the fact that they asked Terry not to bash them speaks volumes. Funny, Terry's obviously too classy for that. Hell, even Jack never spoke ill of them. I did, I can't stand them. But my point is that Terry is a class act. All the way.
Echoing the sentiments of some others, Terry was a much better fit for the sound of Great White than Malloy. Replacing singers is the most difficult thing to do in a band. Great White had the perfect guy with Terry, because his voice is so similar to Jack Russell, you could hear this similarity all they way back with XYZ. They should have found a way to make it work with Terry. I wouldn't go see Great White with Malloy if you gave me free ticket and parking pass at whatever county fair they're playing.
It's hard to rebrand great white no disrespect to Terry ! Jack still has the pipes but he's a physical wreck ! I lost interest after the first lp did like sail away very mellow but nothing beats out of the night metal !

Heard “Maggie” a couple weeks ago and I got hooked on XYZ
Man... that is rough with the loss of the baby and father. It's great to see Terry soldier on. An excellent singer indeed.
“It’s A Nice Day To Die, a nice day to go”. I love that song.
Love the vibe of that song.
The first XYZ disk is AMAZING!!!!!!!! I still listen to it today!!! Fantastic guitar player!!!!
Their 2nd album Hungry is great, too. And Marc Diglio is a helluva good guitar player. Wish he was still with them.
