I raised 6 kids on a remote ranch in Colorado; we had to bulk up the pantry for winter as well. I know you know this, but I became really vigilant on waste. I noted how often say half of muffin would not get eaten, some milk would get left in the glass, etc.. I started dishing smaller portions with the understanding if you take it, you eat it!

We didn’t have to worry, but my brother got away with not eating or drinking everything. But, I always had to. My mom spoiled him and I went to my grandparents on my dads side and got my loving from them especially my grandma.

My wife and I go to Fairbanks Costco ones a week and keep our selfs to $200. And we keep ourselves to $100 every other week of Costco gas. We get a lot of the same products. I did nor know about the chicken. We love our Costco dates. When we go we have lunch there. 2 slices of pizza, 2 hot dogs, and 2 pops for $6.98. It's a whole thing, we love it.

One of the many things I've had to do is switch from paper towels to microfiber cloths. I took what I would spend on paper towels for a month and purchased the equivalent on the cloth instead. Bought in bulk at dollar store. That was 4 years ago, and most of the cloths are going strong today. Best idea.😊

Since I was a little girl my mother taught us to add things together as we put it in the cart. I have done that my whole life because we have never had a undetermined amount of money. We usually never have enough and have to leave things we need. And since my husband died and with inflation it just keeps getting worse.😂

I’m not sure why the personally buy what they buy but I keep a supply of disposable plates and cutlery because where I live we experience a lot of power outages due to weather. So I use them when I can’t wash dishes, not on a regular basis.

      @VickyAdams-rw9ef 9 месяцев назад +5

Same. I only use paper plates about once a year. I don’t buy paper towel’s anymore either. Just use rags and wash them. I can mostly shop my grocery store cheaper with their Buy one/ Get one free items. But we like everything and are not picky. I know for some people it is a time issue but mine is a waste and cost issue.

Our family of three has a $75 a week budget for groceries. I tally up the total as I go along in the grocery store. When prices started increasing drastically, I switched to generic for a lot of the things that we buy. turns out the generic option is usually pretty good, that’s been able to help me save a ton on groceries most weeks I am able to stay under budget. We also meal plan, so I purchase exactly what we’re going to be using that week..

Costco starts out with me keeping track as I add to cart. Halfway thru, I've been distracted and forgot the running total, but there are still things we definitely need. I spend the rest of my gathering praying and by the time I'm in line, the knot begins to tie in my stomach. It's ALWAYS more than I expected. Argh!!!

I haven't bought beef for quite a while. I had a "hankering" to make a beef stew last week but was totally shocked how expensive one little package was. I used to but 2 packages(one pound each) for my stew but after seeing the price I am just eating chicken now. My grocery store usually has a cooked rotisserie chicken on sale once a month and I'll buy 2, cut them up and freeze one. Generic brands are sometimes just as good as the national brand and sometimes even better at a much lower price. I always enjoy your shopping hauls as it is not only interesting to see what's available in Alaska but it's also fun and educational at the same time.

We have a Sam's in our area and we have noticed the prices going up beyond what we can afford for some items. We hunt wild fruit and collect it when it is ripe. We grew up knowing where every berry, apple, pears, plums and cherries grew and made jams jellies, juice, sliced fruit. This year because of the drought the Elderberries did not have near the juice and we are just going to make due, with what we were able to get. Plus we grow as many vegetables as we can and dry them, can them or freeze them.

I also have been taking from my storage to keep from buying groceries but now that's its getting to that time of the year I need to start rebuilding my groceries and miscellaneous items that I use for back-up so Ill definitely be spending more than usual when I go shopping but I have to consider that Christmas is coming and I'm on Social Security so I also will be buying my Thanksgiving and Christmas groceries as well and my November and December SS doesn't come in till a couple of days after so that's why I have to plan now also for my holiday baking. I have a junk draw in my freezer. Yes you heard that right! I never throw away something that can be used later on just because its a small amount. The ends of bread. A spoon of cream cheese a handful of grated cheese. Half a sandwich one muffin, a handful of candy. A slice of pie/ pizza, a cup of rice. Spoonful of gravy. A mini container of soup especially if its beans or peass can be eaten over rice! I have a shoe container in which all the small pieces go. Its easier for one person to find something to make for themselves! It forces you to be creative and even eat healthier when you are preparing for you alone.

Hello, happy people. I absolutely love your videos and your family. I live in western Illinois. Not far from St. LOUIS, Mo. Just over the river. My grocery budget has almost doubled, and I have switched from buying brand name items to store brand. I'm definitely feeling stretched. I also used to have a pantry stocked and have had to dig into our surplus with no money to restock to be ahead. Power and water bill and property taxes have gone up as well. My son and I have expensive health issues that have been raised as well. Thankful my husband can still work, and God always provides.🙌

I have found the Chef Store here in NW Montana . It’s better pricing but maybe less selection. I purchase all of our meat there along with bulk rice , flour and all baking supplies. They offer organic options and grass fed beef. I began canning several years ago and recently pressure canning has become a focal point in our pantry.
I can meals ( soups , meats , pork and beans ) and have those type of items in our pantry. I love the convenience and knowing what’s in my food .
Fun to watch those boys shop !!! Bravo 😊

I’ve learned to freeze the extras. If the muffins aren’t gone after two days they go in the freezer.

Groceries in my area are through the roof! I live north of Boston and grew up in the family grocery store. I find that I am putting things back on the shelf and baking more (bread especially). Love your videos!

Sorry to write so many comments but as for doing soups if you wanna save a lot of time just put hashbrowns in instead of having to cut up potatoes if you want to save time you can use lentils I’m sure you know all the different soups and I have some of that those beautiful vegetables you have in the soups a little bit of chicken in the soup can make A whole meal and dumplings or biscuits and it’s even more wonderful.

i think the different water bottlers' plastics DO taste different; we don't have arrowhead where I am, but I definitely do not care for the Safeway brand compared to my local grocery chain's generic. I generally buy more ingredients than prepared foods, but have a teen so I would buy snacky or quick easy prep stuff for them to make. now I hardly buy ANY prepared or convenience items. Leftovers for Life!

We have had to change how we shop. We have moved to Costco and bulk shopping and trying to put more things in the freezer. We had to say goodbye to organic produce as it has gotten just too expensive and actually made more of a switch to frozen product as opposed to fresh. We have started being really diligent about not wasting anything. Inflation is hitting everyone really hard! It is so sad.

Yes I have adjusted what and when I shop. Blessings to you with young children to raise. It is so expensive right now! We are older so I don't shop except for sale items or absolute needs. More making from scratch.

Groceries are costly these days. You didnt do too bad I seen hauls around 1200 in the last week as people are stocking up before the snow flies. Having a full pantry is a blessing. 😊❤

Any trip to the grocery store these days is pure anxiety!but I hear you on the surprise checkout total 😂 I see a lot of stuff is more expensive but that olive oil is the same at all Costcos! I always found it odd when I lived in Alaska that some things were the same price bur then others were drastically higher! ❤

We have very much adjusted. I should say I, I do all the shopping. We eat whatever is on sale for the most part. We recently purchased a chest freezer so that we can buy more of what we like when it is on sale for a decent price. Hoping to get some canning in later in the week. We are a family of five adults. I get it totally. The men did a great job, divide and conquer always a good way to get more done.

I read most of the comments
Not very many pleasant responses concerning arrowhead water
I’m in south central Oklahoma. We are still getting up into the 90s daily.
    But fall will get here
    Thanks for showing your haul.
Prices rarely go down has been my experience. I raised three children and was always thankful I managed to feed them. God is good.
Your family is doing well, you are blessed.
    ❤❤
