I bought the linen shorts in black and they are so comfortable. I wore them last week when we went to Florida.
I can't wait until next spring when our Costco opens. I have to drive about 45 minutes each way to go. I shop at Sam's and BJ's a lot. They are super close.
I had guessed $375 for the groceries, so I wasn't off by much.
We're getting an Aldi in a town just up from where I live and I can't wait to go to it. I have a cousin in Oklahoma,who shops there all the time and I've seen a lot of the channels I watch go there. I'm so excited to go to Aldi lol

Hi Lauren from Abbotsford, BC, Canada, I just wanted to let you know that I was reading that they are discontinuing "Rao's" sauces probably by the end of the year, so you might want to stock up! Also for the Cilantro Lime Crema, I cook my chicken in it and have it over noodles or make it into tacos instead of sour cream, it's so good! I really enjoy watching your channel and seeing what it's like to live in Alaska compared to where I live! Happy sunny days to you!

My house hold will only eat the Just Bare chicken strips too! Ever since we tried them a few months ago I have a bag in the freezer at all times now, just like we have southern sweet iced tea in the frig.
It's nice and sunny here in Mid Missouri...7:40 a.m. and it's 70 degree's at the moment~ suppose to reach 90 degree's again today...I'm thinking if it's already this hot Missouri may melt this summer! 😂

Great friends at Costco!! Donna is a hoot!! I went to Costco last week with my sister and bought the Raos (haven't tried it yet) and the Crunchy Rollers-love the taste of them!! I guessed $400.00-close. It's too bad the Sample King wasn't along today-he would have had fun!!🙂 I watched a family from New York shop at their local Costco and they rave about the Just Bare chicken nuggets as well!! 👍

We had the same problem with the freezer getting left open.
We bought the latches that are meant for baby safety and made the rule that you had to latch the freezer and so far it’s solved the problem. 👍🤞🏻
Surely someone has invented an alarm that sounds if the freezer has been left open more than say 5 minutes!? Would save so much food!
I feel like I have seen that. Maybe there’s even a version that would alert on a phone?
u can make that cream. sour cream Lil bit milk salt n cilantro n add lime if u want lime . u can mince fine the cilantro or but in blender with juice then add . n just chop n stir in juice n lime

My boys also have left the freezer open... (more then once 😅)i now have a child lock on it and told them to close the lock after use. It works 🎉🎉🎉

When we were up in AK as a very late honeymoon and scouting for potential move last June, we were pricing our normal groceries at smaller towns and Anchorage. We were surprised that only a few processed things and meat were more expensive than Walmart here in Iowa. Meat was 20-100% more depending on the items, but realistically we would get most our meat from hunting/fishing and a little livestock. A lot of things were cheaper, and the produce was better ironically. Obviously that would be the reverse in winter. Even milk was cheaper at the time than most places here aside from Walmart. They were even marking down organic milk at Palmer to 3.60 ish to get it sold, but that is one off I would assume.
Gas, vehicle rental, hotels, and restaurants were much more expensive though. Tourist season didn't help.

Those candles and diffusors were actually a pretty good deal!! You need to pick up things like that year round for gifts. You never know when you might need one plus gets you a little ahead for the Holiday season. You can get a couple to few small gifts out of the candles. Maybe the diffusors to if you repackage cute. Just an idea. I do it all the time and often I am glad I did!!

@@ThisAlaskaLife Thanks. Yeah, I have a shelf in my closet where I keep stuff like that and gift bags for all occasions that I pick up year round when marked down. A diffusor and candle in a cute gift bag would make a very nice little gift. Being thank you, housewarming, teacher or whatever when all of a sudden you need a little something. Saves you time from running around looking for something too! Has saved me many times...LOL! I am also forgetful so there is that too😁😏.
I found the Just Bare chicken tenders at Sam’s and had to pick up a bag at Lauren’s recommendation. I made some in an air fryer as she does. Sooo yummy!!!

Yes, those dumplings are awesome. The ice cream cone pack you bought used to be only the cones? Now with sandwiches and fudge sticks? I think it’s funny you said you really can get away without A/C at home? Cars too? Our A/C goes 90% of the year. I card get filthy up there. Should invest in a car wash!😂 Lots of them in Florida. Our roasted chickens are $6.97 in Pa. at Wal Mart and they don't look as big as the one you bought there in Alaska.

No a/c... What!!? Nope, ain't happening. I have got to have my a/c and fans. Anything over 74°F and your girl is a grouchy pile of soggy moosh. I don't like hot... says the girl that lived in Florida for approximately 30 years 🥵
I love dumplings and potstickers: chicken and veggies or just veggies. Bibigo's aren't bad. I eat them with soy sauce and wasabi, Yashido's or a sweet and sour or Sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. I'll have to give that Japanese BBQ Sauce a try 🥟
Guava nectar is yummy. We just finished a "homemade" P.O.G. Juice... Yum. Those Multi-Grain Crackers and Cookies look yummy too. I have chili-lime pistachios and wasabi almonds that I really like 😋

@This Alaska Life I fed my breakfast n mid morning if saying hungery 1 piece fruit then lunch n then dinner. if just at home but if we were out n at river ect busy burning up calories then more variety of snacks n huge dinner

We don't have a Costco close to me, but I found the Just Bare chicken nuggets in a local grocery store. I really wanted to try them, but they were DOUBLE the cost of the other chicken nuggets 🤯. The bag looked to be about half the size of the ones you buy and was $12.99! I almost swallowed my tongue! Needless to say, I still haven't tried them 😂.
Oh no! They are more expensive but I like them so much better. Hope you find a sale on them someday!

use the leftover bread bits for breadcrumbs I do that I just let them sit out to dry then use the food processor to grind them down they work great

Really nice to have your videos to reference. We are looking to move up to Alaska in the next few years, so we were scouting and comparing prices on some things last June, but a continual look at prices helps a ton as we try to get used to a budget we would need up there.
Interestingly enough, most groceries we would buy were cheaper up there when we were comparing in Seward, Palmer, Wasilla, Anchorage, and a smaller town about 1/4 of the way from Soldotna to Homer. Forgot the name, but even the Three Bears had decent prices.
Right now we live in Iowa with our 3 daughters (7, 10, 12), and my hunting opportunities have dried up, and our fishing is terrible in most places we have any real access to. We are looking at lower Matsu or the Kenai Peninsula for the move, but I am working on my pilot certs and hours first to transition into an aviation career. Who knows, maybe we will run into you on one of our scouting trips or once we move. Unfortunately the only person we knew up there moved to Florida a few days before we went last year, so have to make some new connections before we start the house hunt and move, lol. Everyone we met was amazing and loved the small town vibe everywhere that has disappeared here over the last 10-15 years. Just felt like home, more so than here for sure.
So glad you enjoyed coming up. We do still have the small town vibe here and I think that is why we could never leave. Good luck on all your preparations.
