We live in Missouri and are seeing rising cost for meats, dairy and massive shortages on formula. The sad part is that my husband is an over the road trucker, he drives for the refer division. He delivers Tyson meats and they are rejecting loads because they don’t have enough room to store it all. The underground storages are packed full, we get so upset when we see these prices and hear about “shortages” when we know they are untrue rumors.

My partner and I both make over 2K a month individually in a cheap state and we have to be super careful of our habits since this has happen or we go to zero or negative easily. We moved in together because it was the next step but it also has been such a blessing so we both don’t stress it to this max and can pay off debts faster to have a prosper life in the future with life savings, 401K investment, etc.

I always find your shopping trips and costs interesting. Whereas a lot of your followers are shocked at the prices there, I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and find your prices comparable to ours. In some cases, some items are less expensive here. I am jealous of what products the USA Costcos offers compared to Canada & wish we had the same selections. Like your winter, ours has been never ending. We have had record amounts of snow and now rain, so much so that the ground cannot absorb it all. My veggie gardens are in raised beds and everything is too saturated to plant. It is typical for us not to plant until after our long weekend in May, which is a week before yours. I generally don’t plant until June 1st because we aren’t safe from freezing temperatures until then. This week we have at least two days where it will get down to 0C (32F). We are crossing our fingers that the soil will dry out enough for us to plant, though more rain is due this week with the possibility of snow. Sigh…..Still, we count our blessings because in the grand scheme of life, this is only an annoyance.

We are noticing the prices going up and portions getting smaller. Within a month I bought two separate boxes of Mini Wheats. One was regular size they normally are, and the second box the mini wheats were actually smaller. Something needs to change and soon.

Living in rural Pennsylvania surrounded by farms im able to gets a heads up on what is being planted. Farms run on diesel fuel for tractors and farm vehicles. They are also having a hard time getting fertilizer which has almost tripled in price. The lower 48 are also dealing with the avian flu hitting poultry farms. Best advice is stock up and plant gardens for fresh veg. Egg prices will also be getting higher as will almost everything else. Some farmers are not planting as much as usual either.

A suggestion about gardening, build a high hoop green house. 10 or 12 wide by 20 long. Build 2. A door on one end and a vent with fan on the other. Simple to build, just have to knock the snow off a few times during the winter to prevent them from collapsing. This will allow you to get some crops in even if the ground is still frozen. A side bonus is they keep out the animals and prevent some pests, but once the bees start doing their thing you'll have to keep the door open and open up the vent or have a way to roll up some of the sides to allow them in.

I was shocked when you gave the total! I was thinking to my self that your haul seemed smaller than normal and then the $ 😮. I did make it a point to look at our soup when I went to Safeway Saturday and we don't seem to have any shortages on it and it was 3,79 or so a can for Progresso and 2,79 for Campbells Home Style. I have noticed my grocery bill is at least 5-7% more, and as for gas I too had 20 cents off this week and I have started filling up at half tank. I do pray it will get better but I don't see it coming any time soon. But God! Got to keep the trust in Him. Have a blessed week, Oh I hope you get your garden in and I hope to get the few plants in as well, hopefully the ground will warm soon. :)

here in missouri, chicken and dairy shortages are real. weird shortages like my husband's favorite Cascadian Farms granola, heavy cream, cream cheese. We also bought an upright and kept our other freezer to put a half cow in. Am stocking both freezers now. My reasoning is to get things we eat and if the shortage does not occur, we can bless others later.

Prices are def going up in the lower 48 for sure! I imagine a Costco load like yours would be at least $200 less but still shockingly high to us. Gas is about the same price as yours in some areas. We just bought a standup freezer as well and bought 1/4 of a cow. Stocking up pantry slowly when things are on sale. Just put in our garden for the summer. Hope things turn around.

My guess was $700.00 here in Massachusetts it almost impossible to get fresh chicken, limited amounts of soup and progressive soup $3.79 a can. Prices will not decrease, whatever you buy now is only going to cost more in the next few months. Baby formula is manufactured by only three companies here in America. Finally today Abbott Labs has been cleared to start up again after being shut down for contaminated formula, but it will take 8-10 weeks to hit the stores.
All we can do is pray and prepare.🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

Funny you mention that. I live in the Denver area and I saw baby formula on the clearance rack at Kroger just 2 days ago for between $3-$5/can and it wasn't expired. It was all soy-based though and I don't think I'd want to give that to a baby.

Prices are high everywhere it seems. I have an idea, for not forgetting or losing what you have in your freezer. Since it has a smooth finish, get a dry erase marker, write on the outside, what you have. Every time you take something out, erase it, then write down, what you buy on your next haul. No more, freezer burn!

I think I would throw a party once the last bit of snow is gone. Lol. Definitely a reason for celebration!!! The reason for the baby formula shortages is because so much of it is being sent down South and overseas because of the war. Our leaders have to remember people here in this country are just as important as anyone else and I'm all for charity, but parents here in the states shouldn't have to deal with shortages and crazy expensive prices while others are getting it for free.
