I have a suggestion for you. Once your friends leave, please consider the option of utilizing that space for travel medical professionals ie nurses, doctors, therapist etc. You can reach out to you local hospital's HR or recruiter to hook up with either them directly OR with whatever staffing agency they may be utilizing. They pay company or hospital pays directly to you and usually 16 week contracts with the possibility of longer if their contract is extended. I know they are always looking for housing there. I was offered a travel nurse position in Alaska years ago and I didnt take it because it was shared housing, something I am not fond of. Just an idea for later. Since you will have it furnished they will pay really decent price too. Just something for you to think about!

Agreed I have some friends who do that and rent out a similar type place for much more by the week to travelling medical professionals. They have been doing this for a good while and in a few years only one minor unknown issue from a guest/resident. They contacted the hospital HR Dept not expecting them to do anything but to inform them of what happened and they where more than cordial and apologetic and went as far as to say they will never bring her back and have notified her contractor. Was not a big dollar thing but they had to hire a professional cleaner for fee that was not horrible more of an inconvenience and disappointment as they did not as usual suspect the one who did the damage to be that one who does.

Plus, it sounds like they want to stay in budget. They have already invested a lot of money. Maybe we can help??

I've rented many VRBO and the relaxing ones aren't cluttered. I think you've done a great job furnishing the place. We don't need as much stuff as we think we do. :) I love your idea of a personalized picture on the table to welcome your guests. Also, an info-binder of things like wifi password, code for door security key box, and other instructions (when is trash pickup, etc) and local favorite shops (best coffee or pizza in town) are always helpful to settling into a new place. When you move to a new place you lose all your support system for services like mechanics and hair stylists, pet groomers and doctors. It's nice to have some options on where to go.

I did this too. However, I had a lot of time to do it. I don't rent it out, but if have out of town guests, they have their own place to stay while here. They can come and go on their own. They have everything they need, but I love to cook, and bake, so I usually have them for meals, unless they have special plans. This way they don't have to worry about staying in a hotel. I don't charge them. I also know everyone that stays there. I like to help out when I can. When no one is there, I use the space.

My list: Coffee maker, broom, mop, clock radio, little lamps for bedroom tables, a comfy throw for the couch with a splash of color there, Costco has them and they aren't very expensive. Did you get glasses and mugs? Dish soap? Drainer? Dishwasher soap? I think you got a few things for the walls, I hope you will show it again after TV and they are up! I also agree with the curtains, it still sounds pretty hollow, the cloth might help, and be pretty! Hand soap dispenser, but you probably got that, we didn't really see the bathroom.

You probably won’t be doing this big of shopping again anytime soon, but to make it easier if you need multiple shopping carts is to close the toddler seat and use the seat belt to attach to the “front” (non toddler seat) end of the next cart, creating a train of carts. I used to work as a cashier for Walmart, and once in a blue moon someone from the Red Cross would come in shopping for a displaced family due to some weather circumstances or DV issues or whatever or when the police would come in shopping for Toys for Tots.

They have since passed. Then I lived with my daughter and took care of her children. This year February 2022 I moved into my own apartment. As you said a lot of people don't realize the stuff you have to get. I was very blessed with family and friends who either gifted me something or gift cards. I really and truly did not realize how many people were as generous as they were. I love my own place and have made new friends closer to my age. I still take care of my one daughters kids three times a week. I am in a much better place me mentally which makes me a better person. Barbar Houser Sioux City Iowa

The apartment looks beautiful. So kind of you guys to furnish it and make it feel like a home, it looks so pretty. Great work!

Maybe some pictures on the walls. And I did not see curtains. But I think its good start to a perfect furnished home.
And maybe to let new tenants feel welcome prepare a little basket with cookies and fruits, maybe some essentials so that they can move in and settle and get through first night before shopping for goceries.

I would say the apartment is pretty well furnished. I would think since your friends are only going to be there a short while, I would get some seasonings for the cook coming in!

Hi guys. I have never seen landlords furnish a place like you did. I’ve seen some of your older vlogs showing some of your rentals. You seem to find tenants who are very trustworthy and respectful to rent to. I’ve seen some places people rented out that were trashed and damaged when I lived in NY. Seemed they didn’t care as long as they didn’t own it. Are Alaskans overall good tenants to have renting your properties? Do you screen possible renters thoroughly before making a decision? Thought I’d ask. See you next time.

Yes, I have shopped for homes in one day. I used to set up group homes for people with disabilities.

Coffee maker, cookie sheets, clock, glasses? If I were renting the apartment I'd be thrilled and happy to buy anything forgotten. I was sitting here crying the loss of 2 friends, your videos are a beacon of light in dark days. Love from NJ ❤️

I was at Walmart today and bought a trash/laundry/grocery cart thing there. Worth every penny. And it's sturdier than the last one we bought. You easily spent over 1,000 dollars!!

We have short term and mid term rentals here in Augusta, GA. You get a system. You bought too many small kitchen appliances. Costco towel sets are the best deal and quality, and easy to replace. You have to replace linens frequently. I would have also washed all kitchen things and linens - sleeping on crunchy sheets out of a package, being covered in lint when wet out of the shower, etc. won’t help your air bnb ratings any 😘. I always like to add some local decor - golf, military here. Wayfair is great for furniture and art but you might not be able to get those shipments there?

I did the same about 8 years ago and it cost approx £3k which is about $3750 USD at todays conversion rate. This included 2 beds, 2 wardrobes, 2 dressers, 2 sofas, 2 side tables, dining room table and 4 chairs, washing machine, fridge, TV and stand, all bedding, all crockery, pots and cutlery, microwave, toaster, clocks, cushions, pictures, towels. All furniture came from Ikea. Although none of this was high quality, I have had good renters and the furniture is still going strong.

Great purchases. We don't have Walmart in the UK, but for 21 years Walmart owned the ASDA chain of supermarkets, which gave very good value. ASDA has since returned to British ownership and still gives good value. My estimate started at $1,000, but soon went up to $1,500. Once you started adding expensive items like the TV, toaster, all the bed linen, kitchen utensils I went up to $2.000, so pretty close.
