I’ve always just sat in front of my wheel and let the tire rest on my inner thighs and lifted my legs to help center. I mean unilugs aren’t the easiest but never had this much problems.
I know it's a pain to have to lift the wheel while you're trying to position it, but it's the right way to do it. don't try positioning the jack just perfectly or you'll never get it. It was almost painful watching you go up and down with the jack, thinking it would work.
I always started the lug nuts with the washers on all 5 studs, Should have enough stud sticking through to get a couple of threads on each then pull the wheel forward up on to the shanks of the lug nuts. Run each lug nut down a few turns at a time to keep the wheel on the shank of the lug nut until the wheel is seated against the drum/rotor face then tighten in a crisscross pattern. Worked with my 61 Olds 88 that had the 5 inch bolt pattern as well as with shank style lug nuts for my Forsight Ventures torque thrust style wheels on a Monte Carlo. may be late to comment but could help during tire rotations or service.
I used a tire tool under the tire where I could move the tire from up down and side to side and my shoulder against the top of the tire,,,, never had a problem and I was using a bumper jack back in the day , Peace of cake and I had unilug rims
I got a 73 javelin w/ cragars. Way I do it, get one lug on, put it to 6 o’clock, get another lug on w/o washer. Put the other 3 on then take the one w/o washer off an out it back on w/ washer. Pain in the ass I know, but it works well
The front wheels are easy compared to the rear. Maybe your studs aren't long enough. My rear wheels are offset deep dish 15". Those are a pain in the A.
what the part number for those lugs & washers or the size? im seeing several online but can’t tell if they are similar to the ones i already have on my cragars. i have the exact wheels that you have

Man this brings back some memories, I had the same issue on my 72 AMC Javelin
