21:20 - It may not work because I understand that this plugin has preset profiles for different general purposes... Chugga Chugga guitars are a specific kind of think. But I found out that fabfilter pro-MB does a great job with these guitars, IF you put it before the amp simulator. Pro-MB changes the EQ of different bands dynamically depending on the LEVEL of that band, while this one changes the EQ smoothly depending on how much time has passed from the attack (it's a much more "scripted" approach"). So for ex. Pro-MB does bad if you put it AFTER the amp sim because the distortion compresses drammatically the level between the attack and the sustain... So there is not enough "difference" between attack and sustain to tell the filter when to kick in and when to fade away. Also, the distortion is gonna cause very big level spikes in the sustain part of the signal, and those spikes makes the filter kick in even if you don't want it. You can play around with knee, attack and release, but it's just not worth it, it's very time consuming and it's just a mess (and, as you said, if the musician changes dynamics then you have to adjust each parameter dynamically, which can be a pain in the ass in certain DAWs). BUT, if you put the filter on the clean signal, you will have an easy life with Pro-MB, and you should definitively try Eventide Split-EQ on that. The problem is that it needs the clean signal... You can't do it with pre-recorded amps. BUT there may be a way to use the clean signal to "trigger" the plugin and use the amp signal as the actual audio source (It's calling "ducking", I guess..?). If that is true, you can ask your guitarist to record the DI of his guitar and use it to trigger the plugin, but I don't know if this is possible in every DAW. Sounds like sci-fi music production.

The reason why I put Pro-MB before instead of after the amp sim, it's because the DI signal has a much smoother transient, while the amp signal has a much flat sustain with peaks caused by distortion. Kohle is like a kid in a candy store with his new plug in. Got nice sounds out of it quick. No need for another transient designer again. Glad those boost sliders were included so you don't have to go looking for another step after to do that.

Eventide dev here: The Structural Split itself is linear phase. The EQs are minimum phase. (We are considering a linear phase mode for the future) The plugin doesn't have a zero latency mode because the Split needs lookahead in order to perform its spectral analysis. Regarding CPU usage, like most plugins, using a larger buffer size will make a significant difference in terms of CPU usage. entropy:EQ and more importantly Transgressor 2 have been doing the same thing for years, although I understand this one is much better from a GUI and useability standpoint, plus much more advanced in splitting the transient than Transgressor. But the marketing is so annoying since it's not really anything groundbreaking as such.
@@KohleAudioKult Tbh I think entropy only does transient EQ (so you need to pair it with a normal EQ) and Transgressor has a... Rough GUI, but Transgressor is at least much cheaper, so it's sort of the budget version.
Yes, entropy does practically the same thing, but based on the fresh reviews, I must admit the Eventide UI appears to be more ergonomic. Yet, for this rather special use case, I'd stick with entropy, as it doesn't justify an investment at Eventide price tags.

You’re all good Jack 👍🏽….. both are equally useful, but in different ways 🙌🏽 The frequency dependent compression/expansion possibilities of FFQ3 are amazingly effective in many situations where ETSEQ is not….. and vice-versa…… And sometimes they work perfectly in tandem…. Usually with the Eventide before the FF 🎛…… more powerful & useful compared to all my UAD vintage emulations!
Hi Kohle, gerne kannst du solche spontanen Video‘s weiter machen! Bitte nur aufpassen, das deine Meinung immer direkt bleibt und nicht von Firmen gekauft wird 😉 - war mir bei anderen RUclipsrn negativ aufgefallen.
Just downloaded the demo of Split EQ - very disappointing. Strange phasy artifacts (like soloing delta in Spiff). I'm staying with Transgressor - it's wayyyyy faster and more accurate on drums, and no artifacts, complete separation between transients and sustain.
I'm gonna try the Boz thing. But I'm not hearing any phase problems though. Hope you are not relating to hearing things soloed? That would make no sense.
@@KohleAudioKult "Phasy" wasn't the correct description. But I feel something a bit off going on when eqing the transients on melodic instrument/vocals especially. And not in solo ofcourse :)
Eventide dev here: It makes sense to think of it that way, but the Structural Split works a bit differently. It’s tracking the spectrum across many, many more bands over time and categorizing regions in the spectrum as Transient or Tonal based on how they are behaving. If they’re relatively stable over time, they’re tonal; otherwise, they’re transient. This approach handles polyphony with transients well (including on piano and guitar) and can also resolve transients that overlap with tonal regions, etc. (i.e. it’s not tied to fixed crossover frequencies) Also, because it’s not dynamics-based it can identify soft transients and loud transients at the same time. After the split, it’s two banks of normal EQs controlled by an EQ GUI. Essentially the dynamism happens in the split, which makes it easier to do things like independent Transient and Tonal Qs, gain, pan, etc. in the EQs.
This thing looks amazing, but I wonder does it have a linear phase mode for mastering? EDIT: I now see you talking about the full mix mode. Maybe that's it?
Yes, admittedly it’s a similar idea to entropy:EQ+. That said, separating the Transient/Tonal components of an audio signal and processing them separately has existed in our Physion plugin since early 2017. Physion lets you separately EQ transient and tonal components (amongst many other effects), albeit with 3 bands only. SplitEQ is an extension of that idea, with far greater control. SplitEQ behaves like a tool you already know - an EQ. You have all of the bells and whistles of any standard EQ (multiple filter options, higher order slopes, spectrum analyzer, etc), and can apply those to the entire signal, or the individual Transient or Tonal components of the signal. The panning options also open up a breadth of sounds not before possible. Other tools on the market are similar, but we believe this takes equalization to a new level.
Who's inspired by this new way of EQing?
What a genius tool. I must own this. My first thought was clients asking for "more attack" from guitars. Might be able to save whatever mush they send me.
I've been using a mutiband splitter and transient designer to achieve a similar effect, but this definitely streamlines things.

Keep those videos coming, I see'em all! \m/
So perhaps you can also boost guitar in those harsh frequencies without that harshness building?? Am I correct?? I like to boost a bit in the 4k region but we all know what happens there...
From my limited experience it doesn't work that well in that discipline
@@KohleAudioKult That would be an amazing update if possible...
@@KohleAudioKult i suppose this is what a multicompressor helps with...
I feel like Fabfilter Pro-Q 3 can do the same thing with the dynamic EQ, but maybe with a less intuitive way of doing it. Am I right ?
It’s something very different that could sound the same in the end.
"If I can stop working sooner and start drinking beer earlier, I am happy" Nuff said! :D
🤪🍺❤️
is that a rode ntk on your desk?
Got an NTK here but no! This is a Rode Broadcaster.
Well this seems like a shortcut! Thanks👍
Damn I just bought the fab filter eq, I may have gotten this instead
You’re all good Jack 👍🏽….. both are equally useful, but in different ways 🙌🏽
The frequency dependent compression/expansion possibilities of FFQ3 are amazingly effective in many situations where ETSEQ is not….. and vice-versa……
And sometimes they work perfectly in tandem…. Usually with the Eventide before the FF 🎛…… more powerful & useful compared to all my UAD vintage emulations!
@@ScottRadkeMusic Thanks yeah I really love the pro q Best one I’ve ever used.
Transients from fiddle bows can be very problematic. This could be revolutionary
Omg! It's not like I want this plug-in, I F*****N NEED IT!
Hey Kristian, do you always switch DAWs when mastering? Anything you can do in Nuendo that Cubase cant?
That’s Wavelab.
Yes, for example creating DDPs
Hi Kohle,
gerne kannst du solche spontanen Video‘s weiter machen!
Bitte nur aufpassen, das deine Meinung immer direkt bleibt und nicht von Firmen gekauft wird 😉 - war mir bei anderen RUclipsrn negativ aufgefallen.
Ich muss ja nicht von RUclips leben!
Keine Sorge also!
what about the CPU resources?
I haven’t checked to be honest! My bad.
Transgressor by Boz Digital already done it few years ago, my go to for drums.
@@KohleAudioKult
"Phasy" wasn't the correct description.
But I feel something a bit off going on when eqing the transients on melodic instrument/vocals especially.
And not in solo ofcourse :)
Fuck, the number one thing I was excited to use this for was my distorted guitars. God damnit lol. Still going to buy it
Can you explain the importance of the hat in the mix/master world?
You mean the beanie? That's a secret!
This could be super cool and a guitar DI before it hits the amp
I wish he soloed the bands to see what was happening between the tone and transients
Waiting for dynamic function on that :)
That would be the next level!
I am a simple person when I see a new video I instantly like it
And I like guys like you 🤪🍺❤️
So if im correct this should lessen the need for dynamic Eqs?.
Yes
@@KohleAudioKult Thanks man.
I have a lot of Eventide plug ins, and I was curious about this one. Thanx for the video, greetings an BEER!
Mathieu
🤪🍺❤️
3rd Duvel now. Friday night in Corona hell in the Netherlands 😜
It needs a vertical locked mouse drag modifier.
I agree!
This is freakin KILLER!
Love this,
How is the plugin on the CPU ?
Pretty hard! But it's brand new, I'm hoping they will improve that part.
I didn't notice until after the video. Sorry for that!
Hey Kristin
How can one contact you regarding acquiring availability and quote for a mixing project for an album.
Thanks in advance
Go to: www.Kohlekeller.de
This could reduce the need for drum samples and even the need for drum gates!
How is this not a multiband transient designer and a multiband compressor with an eq gui?
That would be the other way to make a plugin like this.
Kinda like Dynamic EQs and Multiband compressors are the same thing!
@@KohleAudioKult makes sense to me
Eventide dev here: It makes sense to think of it that way, but the Structural Split works a bit differently.
Essentially the dynamism happens in the split, which makes it easier to do things like independent Transient and Tonal Qs, gain, pan, etc. in the EQs.
They call it SplitEQ, I call it Multiband Transient Designer
Hasn't Steinberg already been doing this with the Frequency EQ?
This thing looks amazing, but I wonder does it have a linear phase mode for mastering?
EDIT: I now see you talking about the full mix mode. Maybe that's it?
Eventide dev here: it doesn’t but it’s something we are looking at for the future.
Never good when you're putting a support ticket in before even getting to use it. Looks sweet though
Really? What happened?
@@KohleAudioKult no ilok code sent to me, thought maybe it didn’t go through but my card was charged. Waiting to hear from them now
Lol true. I wonder why company still imitating the UI like an analog eq for a plug in.
Kohle do you film this at night or morning? Lol
It was after the regular studio work around 11pm.
Love it. Awesome. Thank you!
This is not new. I think Sonible deserve their due credit, they did it first with their Entropy EQ+.
IIRC Harrison did it even earlier...
