Governments made ‘mockery’ of First Nations treaties for 150 years, Supreme Court rules

  • The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that the Ontario and federal governments made a ‘mockery’ of treaties signed with the Anishinaabe of the Upper Great Lakes in the 19th century by failing to increase annual payments for resource extraction. The decision could cost the governments more than $100 billion.
