I left my ambitions behind (and have never felt more alive)

  • As I grow, both older and as a person, I've come to feel the importance of letting go. This is my personal experience of letting go of the weight of expectations I've had on myself all through my life to "become something" in order to feel like I've accomplished something in life.
This doesn't mean I just lay around on the sofa all day watching reruns of Friends, I still love to DO THINGS. But I don't look for a posh life or career anymore.

Hej hej everyone, I hope you are doing as well as you can ✨ I've always been a high acheiver and set impossible standards for myself to strive for. As the years go by I've started to shift, slowly but surely, and I feel more and more at peace with just being me 💚

I definitely have ambition, but I think the perspective I take that is different from most people is that I’m fine with it taking longer in order to preserve my quality of life and my health. I don’t need to build a billion dollar business in two years. That would probably kill me. I’m totally happy with slow sustainable growth in my career/business, prioritizing my health and enjoying the journey. ✌️

Yeah the pressure to achieve in no time at all is really crazy. I remember like a year ago I found this video of a digital artist who made a video where she told her story and that she planned for it to take 3 years from when she started until she wanted to be a full-time artist. It was just so refreshing (and realistic!) 🙏 I can recommend checking her out if you like cute art: www.youtube.com/@MimimooIllustration

And that question is so personal: "Do you want this?", but it's a good one to ask.
Here I go again with Alan Watts: "The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves."
If only we were taught some of this wisdom as well as all the other stuff during our early years :)

Oh yes it's very personal and will differ from person to person and over time. I really wish I'd learned more, or at least been presented to questions like this and more... philosophical stuff from a younger age. But, better late than never I suppose :)
Thank you, that's a great saying from Watts! ☺

This is such an inspiring video and the clips you added are all pure magic.
I have the issue that I never really knew what I wanted to be job-wise. (I remember I said I wanted to be an artist in 4th grade) But I have always known what I want my days to be filled with.
My biggest dream has to be to live a life close to nature. Living in the city overwhelms me and I'm an artist soul, I am introverted and I need quiet time to function.
Right now, I do live in the city and work a full time job at the office until June that also includes social activities with children and the elderly. And I already feel the burnout physically and mentally. I barely have time to paint, play music or write. I don't move my body a lot anymore. I rarely spend time in nature. The weeks pass so fast and I don't even realise.
I guess if I wasn't aware of my dreams and passions in life, I wouldn't even notice that living this regular 9-5 job sucks out the energy out of me. And so many people live a life like this, thinking they are accomplishing something when in reality they are just wasting their time working and working.
I want to go on adventures. I want to spend my time creating something. Painting, writing, singing, gardening, handcrafting. I will never stop being an artist and I never want to.
I know what I want, but sadly I don't quite know how to start and get there. And my biggest fear is not being able to follow my dreams. That I will be stuck in the city and work a regular job and have no time for the things I'm passionate about :/
It might be hard financially. But you can also be so so proud of the fact that you have not given up on your dreams and actually followed them. I think that is much more impressive than any "accomplishment". Many people try to climb up the corporate ladder and even if they get a great title and make bags of money and are so "productive", they probably live a soulless life. It's the capitalistic illusion of success. Real success is spending your time with the things that make you feel like you are actually living, not just existing ♥

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙏 I can relate very much to the frustration that comes with not being in a place where you want to be. It's easy to start resisting, and spend the energy you have left on that. I have been down that road many times and it's just helpful at all. I know it's easier said than done, but I've found it helps immensely to just stop for a minute and just breathe to take a minute to collect oneself to be able to think straight and make better decisions 💕 At least it sounds like something is happening in June for you to change things up a bit 😊

I'm so glad this video was on my for you page. Since the pandemic, I've been floating in limbo regarding my future.
"What's the point of it all?" Has been my constant state of mind ever since. But I never stopped creating even though my mind and body were slipping down a dark hole. Even when I was depressed, I expressed it in ways that reflected my ability to be creative, that reflected my soul.
It stopped me from completely falling over the edge. "This right here, this is what I live for."
Last week, I finally made the decision to actually chase my dreams in September. And let me tell you, I have never felt lighter. It made me realise the anxiety, doubts, and stress from following the system, that burden is actually greater than the burden you feel when following your dreams.
If your dreams are the reward, it makes it all worth it. So, to anyone reading this, go do the thing. Go against the system. Make YOU happy. That's all that matters.

@JacquelineWester Hi! I'm finally pursuing an artistic/creative education to broaden my horizons. I've always told myself (and been told) that artistic careers are a load of bull, not realistic or reliable in the slightest. After trying 3 different courses and failing them all due to my deteriorating health, I realised something needed to change. If I'm going to have to work hard to make it anyway, then I'd rather do it for something that'll make it feel worth it, you know?
Anyway, thank you for reaffirming with this beautiful video that I'm on the right track, and more importantly, that I'm not alone in this struggle. Much love to you and your journey ❤️

    • @JacquelineWester
      @JacquelineWester  28 дней назад +1

Wow how I relate to what you're describing 🙏 I've also been told (by well meaning, worried people) that creative careers are "not safe". But are any career really "safe"? Ofc getting a pay check every month is nice and feels safe. But really one could just get the boot at any time 🙄 Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your journey ✨
