As you say, at least in those shows, his abilities were occasionally showcased, and I was always so excited when an episode highlighted his potential. Unfortunately, my childhood hopes of seeing a true version of MMH in live action has been repeatedly destroyed over the years by poorly written movies, directors and writers who seem to have forgotten that he was a founding member, and in one of the series, quite literally the psychological connection that brought the league together whenever he was initially trapped in a government facility. I love that you made a video expressing my exact feelings about this character. Maybe one day they’ll run out of Batman and Superman ideas, and realize they have an untapped goldmine of possibilities with J’onn J’onzz at the center.
People have been crying about its hideous... clothing... for decades. To no avail. If the person who wrote it (probably some kid) knew how much that character would defy time, do you think he would have taken more time to design it?
I think the only point here that you got wrong is Martian Manhunter being more popular than Cyborg. 4:00 Cyborg was in Teen Titans, the injustices games, and just all around much more popular with the general population. He is also typically a more comic relief character which is why I think they brought him in. Even though they failed to make cyborg or flash funny in the live action justice league movies imo.
Manhunter is pretty much the most strongest in the justice League well the third most strongest because Flash and Superman are much stronger but I don't like when the writers nerf him
Nah superman is still the strongest but martian is like the second strongest, you don't have to downplay Supermans powers when giving martian manhunter his props my dude.
@Rengokuo4o6 no he isn't stop downplaying superman , martian manhunter is strong I understand that , but superman is simply stronger , respect that fact
@Rengokuo4o6 it terms of raw physical strength Superman is stronger than Martian Manhunter. In terms of Powers, Manhunter is stronger than Superman as he has more powers than Superman.. War world displayed just how powerful Martian Manhunter is
When I was a kid watching the JL show I always thought using his powers must have been draining on his body. Super man and wonderwoman don’t need to turn on their strength but shape shifting, changing density etc does. I can’t justify his entire species losing the war.
Having fire as a sole weakness is funny because literally most living beings are weak to fire. MM is definitely one of my favorite DC characters, both for his powers and his personality. He reminds me a lot of Vision.
Not even a fictional person can escape discrimination even if it's against a made up alien species. I'm just joking but I did like the way the Tomorrowverse handled this sort of topic with the similarities and differences between Clark and J'onn.
Martian Manhunter was written into Snyder’s JL last minute. Snyder wanted GL John Stewart to be the 7th member. However WB, with their “plans” for GL. Overrided Snyder’s decision.
What's even worse about his character in the Supergirl show is how often he gets beaten up or injured. They even mention his regeneration but he never regenerates. Also in case you forgot he was undercover for the majority of Season 1 so he couldn't help Kara/Supergirl just fyi if you do decide to make a video on situations he could've helped her.
@@Copperkaiju They never really went in depth but during the flashback of him meeting Jeremiah, Hank (OG version) talks about how his gun disrupts his healing (or something like that) so I'd figure it's implied that he can regenerate but Hank negated it.
the problem with martian manhunter is he is not goofy, hes always dignified, hes an alien from another planet, i want to see him transform into some crazy aliens like ben 10or have his eyes or ears mess up in front of humans, the fire is double painful for him, its good
I love martian manhunter possibly my favorite DC hero, he's basically the ultimate swiss army knife and even if you take away his overlapping powers with superman (super strength, durability, speed, flight) he's still a powerful hero with his mental powers and ability(s) to alter his physical body (I honestly think shapeshifting is one of if not the best super power out there). He also has such a cool demeaner while still having emotions kind of like a middle ground between Superman and Batman.
I agree,. He is one of my favorite heroes but the disrespect he gets is uncalled for. He gets bitten up way more easily than the Flash or even Aquaman while he is literally called a MANHUNTER!!!! I think James Gunn should try to bring him to the new DCU. Since his story/origin has never been explored in depth, it can really do well on the big screen.
I hate to be this guy: but *fire* is actually quite rare in the universe! Fire requires three things to exist: fuel, oxygen, and ignition. Due to Earth's uniquely rich oxygen dense atmosphere, fire is allowed to exist. (PBS Eons goes in depth with this in their video of "Why Only Earth Has Fire"). As of this comment, Earth is the *only* known planet to have fire. Anyhow, due to fire not being a thing on Mars, this particular weakness--to me at least--makes sense. Martian Manhunter would basically be allergic to fire, as it is a substance/element his biology would not have been able to evolve a resistance to. I do, however, agree with every other point you made in this video! His weakness to fire is inconsistent and he's often defeated way too easily, despite being so versatile and on par with Superman. Hopefully we see more of him. In Young Justice, we've seen the extent/usefulness of Miss Martian. I hope to see the same love for Jonn
I always thought a manhunter/Dreamer detective show in the Arrowvwrse would be cool . And he can just stay in his human shape, he doesn't have to transform. It was a cool reveal when he revealed himself to Alex even tho i knew it was coming . I think if you commit to a set of rules then you can use him without him being op. In the adaptations where he's been prominent, he doesn't have the strength of kryptonians, he doesn't have "martian vision"-- generally he's portrayed as a little weaker than he appears on paper.
Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Flash don't really need anyone else around unless they face enemies with their own skill set or their specific weaknesses are about. Plot armor and bad writing are the only reasons why they need anyone else. Flash, even with his more limited power set should be able to beat anyone except another speedster. For a human beings jus thinking about something is gonna take at least a tenth of second. Flash has circled the globe several times during that tenth of second. Martian Manhunter should be untouchable by almost all his adversaries. Obviously he can't phase through fire--right?
Raw power doesn't make popularity. If it did, we'd be in Season 10 of "The Silver Surfer Show". Spider-Man became super-popular by getting his butt handed to him regularly, and always managing to pull out a win by cleverness or dogged persistence. Wolverine became popular by being a massive jerk. Wonder Woman, in her early years, became popular by getting tied up in EVERY SINGLE STORY.
Spider-Man was more of "yea he gets beat up but his struggles to pay bills and be there for his family" is what made him endearing. Marvel was great at the street level problems of fantastic characters. Too many DC stories paint these people as gods above us all. But Clark still has an apartments rent to pay and a job to work. @@stevenscott2136
They definitely had moments in JL/JLU where he could have helped but stood by helpless, like, bro, what are you doing? They didnt have to make him so OP. focused more on his signature stuff, his telepathy, his phasing, his shape shifting, and less on super strength and heat vision and stuff like that. Ah well......
When you make characters as stupidly broken as Martian Manhunter, Superman, or Flash... you have no other choice than to find really dumb ways to nerf or sideline them. It's a problem with comic book characters in general that I try to overlook to enjoy them. Live action versions usually try to rein their power levels in a bit because they're just too broken for there to be realistic stakes.
Minor Correction: Martian Manhunter appeared at the end of Zack Snyder's Justice League because he was used to replace Green Lantern (In Zack's DCEU, Green Lantern of this generation is John Stewart). During the filmmaking process, Zack wanted to use Green Lantern to appear in front of Ben Affleck's Batman to warn him of the incoming threats of Darkseid. Zack even filmed a whole scene with Wayne T. Carr as Green Lantern. However, in their typical fashion of self-sabotage, WB refused to let him use the character and made him replace GL with Martian Manhunter instead. As for why Zack didn't have Martian Manhunter take more proactive action in his movies, Batman v Superman established a whole lore on how exactly the world would react to super-powered beings like Superman. As a telepath, Martian Manhunter (played by Harry Lennix) knows this so he avoids getting himself involved with world affairs and doing... well, superhero stuff. He has an important position in the US Military so I would say that he is already involved enough already.
Like you said Martin Manhunter is another one of those busted heroes that writers don't know how to write properly without completely crushing any enemy he comes across and over shining all the other heroes. So they just side line him and make him weaker cos how do you write an extremely OP hero well. Hmmm🤔( One Punch Man theme intensifies.)
Yet they always make him look completely useless for Superman, every character seems to be inferior whenever Superman is on screen, all they have to do is 1) Make Superman physically the strongest hero 2) Make Wonder Woman the most deadly hand to hand/ weapn combatants 3) Make Martian Manhunter the most dangerous psychic 4) Make Captain Atom the most dangerous energy projecting/absorbing character If you make those characters play into their abilities you can write a story where Superman can't punch his way out of, but you specifically need Manhunter psychic abilities or Captain Atom energy projecting, or Wonder Woman fighting skills, or better yet a villain like Darkseid is so powerful Superman can't beat him alone, but Captain Atom and Superman can both manhandle Darkseid together, that would make the other hero feel more useful and not fodder
@@franklangston3004Being the dangerous psychic is a story-breaker in itself. When a character can CONTROL the enemy, the problem is instantly solved. This is why mentalists are so often nerfed to Counselor Troi level -- just powerful enough to seem like they're contributing, but not enough to derail the epic fight we came to see.
@stevenscott2136 I would like some villain to find way to work around Manhunter psionic abilities, like it was stated that Joker and Lobo are too crazy to work on effectively, I can see Darkseid being resistant like Thanos in the MCU, and I can see others psychic based villain being a challenge for Manhunter or try to (Do like Magneto) and invent something psychic proof, the problem is in Cartoon Manhunter never really used his psychic abilities to solve problems that should be easy for him, the comic book do Manhunter psionic abilities better
are we gonna see a video around marvel rivals? its a big thing for marvel right now and it would be funny to hear some of ur thoughts. maybe characters you want to see or characters that are done right and wrong.
MM lacks good villains and therefore stories. Origin story and JL are bad places to be tied to cause those are not moments where he gets to be a hero. JL is especially not single person's story, let alone MM, unless he wishes to stay a side character. One thing that's crucial to the world building of a hero is the gallery of villains, specifically well written villains. Core villains build up the shape of the hero and what they are all about. Sometimes to the detriment eg Yellow lantern frequently weakens stories cause he's often one dimensional but still most prominent GL baddie. I also think Cyborg is also pretty lacking because of this but his often heavy involvement in the background makes him a good side character But all other DC heroes are built from their villains not JL and not the origin story.
Don't think they've ever shown him as a match for superman's true level strength but he is between like superboy and Clarks restrained level strength. Soo still very effing strong. But that could be his Telekinesis Assisting blows. As for lifting him batman and one other. It's probably the most to focus on safely then again that version was one of the more tame versions. As for the heat weakness. Sorta works I mean we've seen him take fire rather well... Better than a human could. But using logic Mars is a very cold planet. High levels of heat would effect them a good deal. When I see manhunter normally effected by fire it's usually hit with a fire projectile or covered in it. Not the times he's been completely covered in fire then recovers relatively quickly? Yeah no a regular human would be out for a damn lot longer. So seems to be more of a short term weakness? All In all yeah he should be used more.
I think it simply comes down to him being too complex to write a meaningful story about, especially as a good guy. Think about it, if John was one of the big baddies of the DC, then he would be mostly unstoppable. The fire shtick isn't kryptonite, it's something he can overcome. Darkside himself would think twice than to go toe to toe with an evil Martian Manhunter.
I disagree with fire being a bad weakness. Its revealed in comics that the martians used to be extremeley dangerous - Burning Martians" were the dominant life form on the planet Mars. They were baisically extremely op fire aliens. The guardians of the universe saw how dangerous they were. They programmed a genetic weakness towards fire into Martian physiology as a deterrent against violence. So, i think the fire is a pretty cool weakness, considering if he burns for long enough, he coukd become extremely op
I mean Superman’s weakness are kyptonite , magic. , and red sun although it takes a while for him to lose his powers from that I hear and sound sometimes
We're forgetting that MM is definitely more of a pacificist. He's similar to the Airbenders in ATLA-- super powerful but don't want all the smoke. J'onn definitely feels a lot more comfortable in a mentorship/leadership role. You see this in Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice. There's a scene in JLU where some villains break into the watchtower and find themselves in a room with just The Martian. He says something along the lines of, "it is so unfortunate that you are now locked in here with me." J'onn knows he can bully most heroes/villains but doesn't care enough to be considered a heavy hitter. Very few other heroes can play the role J'onn does.
Physically: Metro-man, along with speed. Now if MMH were to see Metro-man coming, I could see (no pun intended) him being able to get into his mind and shutting him down.
It's almost like giving a character a powerset that he can use to overcome all conflicts is a pretty stupid thing to do. How long donwe have to go on pretending why these extremely powerful characters like Martian manhunter or Flash or Dr fate are underused?
I do not like when a character is very powerful, only for them to melt into nothing over a dumb weakness that gets spammed whenever the writer knows that the fight will be over in 5 minutes. Like batman better for those reasons. He is not boring to watch or write.
Spider-Man is about perfect for this. Powerful enough to seem like he can handle stuff, but not so powerful that they have to write him as a complete moron or give him a lame weakness.
I think he’s a more popular character despite me literally showing he isn’t a more popular character. Dude I get you like Maria Manhunter and everything and he is a ****, cool OP character, but he’s not more popular than cyborg who has been in. I don’t know every single iteration of the teen Titans going back the past 2 to 3 decades where is Martian Manhunter either is a part of the justice league or isn’t in multiple iterations across the past several decades. The character is awesome, but he is nowhere near as popular as you are making him out to be.
I think DC and WB are blackmailed to use Cyborg everywhere...thas the only explanation why he has more love and screen time then the original JL members !!!! And with the WB and DC logic, in 5 years Green Lantern/Aquaman and J'onn will be a Teen Titans members only for the sure everyones favorite character in dc history, THE CYBORG, because for sssure thas what the fans want. WB/DC ALERGIC TO MONEY
Martian Manhunter and Vision. Two of the most powerful members of their rosters and are constantly benchwarmers for more marketable Superheroes Miss Martian gets more love because she's just a red headed green chick in a mini skirt who occasionally turns into a spooky white martian.
Martian Manhunter is my favourite superhero, and he's a top teir jobber, up there with Hawkman and Cyborg, it feels like 9/10 whenever he makes an apperence its just so he can get absolutely dogged on so Superman can swoop in and show off he's the top dog.

3:01 that's not how it works
"I have a $70,000 sliver of a radioactive meteor to stop the one from Metropolis. All I need for you is a penny for a book of matches."
The power of perspective hahah. It’s Hilarious that because he’s green, you don’t notice his costume is only underwear, suspenders, and a cape @0:49
😭
😭🤣🤣
People have been crying about its hideous... clothing... for decades. To no avail.
If the person who wrote it (probably some kid) knew how much that character would defy time, do you think he would have taken more time to design it?
I think the only point here that you got wrong is Martian Manhunter being more popular than Cyborg. 4:00
Cyborg was in Teen Titans, the injustices games, and just all around much more popular with the general population. He is also typically a more comic relief character which is why I think they brought him in. Even though they failed to make cyborg or flash funny in the live action justice league movies imo.
I ate some questionable Oreos...

What was the cream made out of 🤨
@@Darwin-sama Mine 💦💦💦
Oh hell nah!!!💀💀
Manhunter is pretty much the most strongest in the justice League well the third most strongest because Flash and Superman are much stronger but I don't like when the writers nerf him
He’s Superman except as a martian.
Nah superman is still the strongest but martian is like the second strongest, you don't have to downplay Supermans powers when giving martian manhunter his props my dude.
@@ClassicHeroYT
Uhhm No. Martian manhunter is flat out stronger than Superman and honestly the Flash.
War world displayed just how powerful Martian Manhunter is
Here's the real issue with Martian Man Hunter. Gun to your head name 3 Man Hunter villains?
"White martians ... um ... *BANG*
From what I learned this weakness was given to his race by little blue guys that control the Green Lanterns. They fear the Martian Burning Man.
Supermans other weaknesses are a red sun, magic and electricity slows him down
Last time bro got rid of his fear of fire bro was a god
The same thing when it comes to Icon he is so underutilized it's crazy
Red Tornado too. I mean, he is not really popular, but i like his design and powers and i'd like to see more of him.
That's why Batman has contingency plan on all the superheroes in case they go rogue😅😅
They did Martin manhunter Drity 😢😔
Damn so he would have a nightmare if he ever ran into The Human Torch or Ghost Rider.
Martian Manhunter was written into Snyder’s JL last minute.
Snyder wanted GL John Stewart to be the 7th member. However WB, with their “plans” for GL. Overrided Snyder’s decision.
WOW THIS VIDEO IS FIRE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate it
What's even worse about his character in the Supergirl show is how often he gets beaten up or injured. They even mention his regeneration but he never regenerates. Also in case you forgot he was undercover for the majority of Season 1 so he couldn't help Kara/Supergirl just fyi if you do decide to make a video on situations he could've helped her.
I think the regeneration thing on the show was tied to the atmosphere on Mars so he could heal quickly but not on Earth.
Rather have a movie about him then another Superman movie honestly
With the fire weakness. The furnace arc in jla is one of the coolest things done with the character. If you haven't read it check it out
This happens if you add a character who just is far too strong to make most threats realistic.
They need to remove some of his powers, because he has to many superpowers. I would let him keep 3 of those abilities.
“ I think Martian Manhunter is a more public character than cyborg”
Yeah NoI’m going to have to disagree with you there.
Well welcome to DC where they sh*t on their characters and try to make them weak infront of Characters like Batman.
Injustice Gods Among US - Martian Manhunter was the best character in the game
He looks absolutely terrifying in this picture.
I gotta say, snyder's martian manhunter looked fire tho (no pun intended)
I never understood why dude was always depicted so weak
I know next to nothing about Martian Manhunter but omg this man is Superman on steroids. How on Earth is he not mainstream popular??
Raw power doesn't make popularity. If it did, we'd be in Season 10 of "The Silver Surfer Show".
Spider-Man became super-popular by getting his butt handed to him regularly, and always managing to pull out a win by cleverness or dogged persistence.
Wolverine became popular by being a massive jerk.
Wonder Woman, in her early years, became popular by getting tied up in EVERY SINGLE STORY.
Wait til you hear about Captain Atom
Spider-Man was more of "yea he gets beat up but his struggles to pay bills and be there for his family" is what made him endearing. Marvel was great at the street level problems of fantastic characters. Too many DC stories paint these people as gods above us all. But Clark still has an apartments rent to pay and a job to work. @@stevenscott2136
make a tier list of all the animated DC movies
He costs to much to animate, that's why he's never in the shows.
Fire is a lot of people weakness!!😮
I thought he wasn’t actually week to fire and it’s just all in his head
They definitely had moments in JL/JLU where he could have helped but stood by helpless, like, bro, what are you doing?
They didnt have to make him so OP. focused more on his signature stuff, his telepathy, his phasing, his shape shifting, and less on super strength and heat vision and stuff like that. Ah well......
honestly way more interesting character than Superman or Batman
2:09 writers forget that superman has no defense against magic. They should have amazons and greek gods be part of his enemies like wonder woman
it's not "weakness" tho, Martian is like having -100% fire resistance while Superman is 0% Magic resistance.
hell yeah bro, also I hate how they nerf flash and green Lantern to a gross level.
There always happens to be a fire when Martian manhunter could easily help
Like you said Martin Manhunter is another one of those busted heroes that writers don't know how to write properly without completely crushing any enemy he comes across and over shining all the other heroes.
So they just side line him and make him weaker cos how do you write an extremely OP hero well. Hmmm🤔( One Punch Man theme intensifies.)
Yet they always make him look completely useless for Superman, every character seems to be inferior whenever Superman is on screen, all they have to do is
1) Make Superman physically the strongest hero
2) Make Wonder Woman the most deadly hand to hand/ weapn combatants
3) Make Martian Manhunter the most dangerous psychic
4) Make Captain Atom the most dangerous energy projecting/absorbing character
If you make those characters play into their abilities you can write a story where Superman can't punch his way out of, but you specifically need Manhunter psychic abilities or Captain Atom energy projecting, or Wonder Woman fighting skills, or better yet a villain like Darkseid is so powerful Superman can't beat him alone, but Captain Atom and Superman can both manhandle Darkseid together, that would make the other hero feel more useful and not fodder
Shoot. In The injustice story line was the worse disrespect I saw
1:13 He has heat vision but he’s scared of fire?🤔🤔but I do like the character though💯😁
are we gonna see a video around marvel rivals? its a big thing for marvel right now and it would be funny to hear some of ur thoughts. maybe characters you want to see or characters that are done right and wrong.
I also think Cyborg is also pretty lacking because of this but his often heavy involvement in the background makes him a good side character
But all other DC heroes are built from their villains not JL and not the origin story.
He's a version of the VISION and he SHOULD get more spotlight on him Blessings and HUGS MARANATHA 👑💜🔯
The problem with Martian Manhunter is that unlike Superman he can't be in a story of his own without an ass pull being done.
They be doing him just like Picollo
Superman is also super weak to magic.
I wish I could help you, Batman.
We definitely need an animated project with just him and maybe his niece
He’s never had a forgettable voice either
I disagree with fire being a bad weakness. Its revealed in comics that the martians used to be extremeley dangerous - Burning Martians" were the dominant life form on the planet Mars. They were baisically extremely op fire aliens. The guardians of the universe saw how dangerous they were. They programmed a genetic weakness towards fire into Martian physiology as a deterrent against violence. So, i think the fire is a pretty cool weakness, considering if he burns for long enough, he coukd become extremely op
The issue with Martian Manhunter is that he's boring
Speak for yourself
Nah, he's cool. Great design, interesting powers, amazing backstory.
I mean Superman’s weakness are kyptonite , magic. , and red sun although it takes a while for him to lose his powers from that I hear and sound sometimes
I love Martian Manhunter
"That's Superman's only weakness, though." *cough* *cough* magic *cough* *cough* mind control *cough*.
*Cough, cough,* magic, red sun, *cough.*
who is stronger Martian Manhunter or metro man?
Physically: Metro-man, along with speed. Now if MMH were to see Metro-man coming, I could see (no pun intended) him being able to get into his mind and shutting him down.
I’d like to see more The Boys or invincible interesting takes/questions
2 Months ago you started and now you have 24k Subs, faster than some people in Years. Congrats Bro
I know, it's crazy. Thank you man.
Course they have to have a witness because people complain. They’re too strong and then they complain. They have a stupid weakness.
I blame Geoff John’s when he made the new 52 and made Cyborg a founding member of the Justice League man hunter was thrown to the side
Wait wha why is mikaela from bayverse transformers at the end of the video oof lol XD
Two of the most powerful members of their rosters and are constantly benchwarmers for more marketable Superheroes
Miss Martian gets more love because she's just a red headed green chick in a mini skirt who occasionally turns into a spooky white martian.
Hawk girl was not in the movie either
Martian Manhunter is my favourite superhero, and he's a top teir jobber, up there with Hawkman and Cyborg, it feels like 9/10 whenever he makes an apperence its just so he can get absolutely dogged on so Superman can swoop in and show off he's the top dog.
Day 2 of saying chuck from angry birds is the best speedster
