The title and most of the comments seem to give all the credit for this fine recording to Norah Jones. But the piano is played by the great Marian Mc Partland. She deserves equal credit.
Oh no, some comment just revealed .. Nora is not actually the pianist here!? It's arian McPartland.. the great radio show host, whom we revered. So I admire Ms Jones way less for allowing the her publst or record company to alter the picture here to lead us her fans, to think she can really play ...like never before. So sad
Let's be honest. Her talent is that she CAN sing such a great classic and NOT sound like its a remake or a cover. No matter who did it before she puts her own unique talent to work. I know great music and she moves me every time. Norah is way under-appreciated.
Definitely. This is much better than Lana Del Ray's version ....which I feel is too slow. But Norah's version is just right tempo wise, and that piano playing is exquisite, and so classy. Norah could easily be a Jazz singer and pianist.
Dear Ms Jones: Mr. Gershwin has to be really proud of your version. No doubt about it. What a gift! This is a treasure, a jewel hidden for me… until now. I have opened my gift today! You triggered me. You are my friend now or I hope so if you permit me that. You are playing the promise to get our world something better. No barriers for good feelings… inner feelings on the depth of our hearts. That is been a prayer for everyone being a better human being. Congratulations for your lesson of love trough music. I know that you know that God blessed Mr. Gershwin before of your touching performance. May God bless you… or maybe you are blessed already. Thank you so much.
I just recently caught on to her. Definitely the more I hear the more I like. Then consider her father was one of the greatest musicians ever. A real original.
Norah will still be talked about in 50 years time. Her voice will last until the sun implodes in 60-70 million years. When the human race is long gone the dominant life form on earth is...something else. They will find her music, and they will hear her voice, and it will be SHE who they are entranced by. Not anyone else in the history of music will it be other than she. There is a timbre to her voice, something within it that sets her apart from anyone else.
Love this. No one has a voice quite like Norah Jones. No one can deny that, even the Joplin purists who will say the original is best. Yes, it is for some reasons, yet lets be honest few today or in bygone years has a voice as beautiful as this woman.
I sing Summertime almost daily, several times a day. This interpretation has left me speechless, I simply love it, WOW, I sing it as a lullaby, no excitement, hey, what kid, is gonna sleep to this? When I sing JAZZY stuff to my grandson, WE DANCE!!!!
I cannot say I know a great deal about music, but I remember the very first time I saw this lady walk onto a music video I was looking at - that just came on - I saw, heard and remarked in my own head, "Wow! That little girl has such a command of what she is doing; I've not ever seen anything like it!" I am still in 2013, amazed at how gracious and how humble she seems to be with her incredible knowledge and abilities in music. Sad we didn't have the video.
Clearly the most beautiful and talented woman to ever walk the face of the planet. I can't name a single woman who can compare, even if I go back several millennia.
It's true. I'm 16 and when I heard her beautiful voice I could appreciate even more this kind of music that I already love. Thank you Norah, for your performances!
THIS is why i appreciate Utube & all U uploaders...i never heard of her before, but U can bet Ur paycheck i'll own a cd by week's end! this is PERFECT music to wind down with at the end of a day.
I think she sounds very beautiful and makes one comfortable. Because I am not single so don't know why you said she sounds no one else like her could you tell me where is she distinctive voice?
Sem desfazer de outras interpretações famosas desta música, parece ter sido feita para Norah Jones. É incrível como ela consegue 'fazer dela' o que canta. Formidável: uma artista completa; para mim, a melhor da atualidade. Vida longa, Norah!
The excellent accompaniment on piano, is an extraordinary English jazz pianist and composer Ms. Margaret Marian Turner (McPartland), (20 March 1918 - 20 August 2013), R.I.P.

Remember Gershwin

I hear 2 pianos.
@@jhersk Yeah, I play piano, and I just don't see any way humanly possible to play all that with just two hands and one take.
Yea they made it look like Norah was playing.
My late wife loved listening to you at night. It helped take the pain away for awhile, thank you for all you do.
Hope it helps with your pain Jim.

All prayers and condolences for your loss sir,jw.org

Marian wil always remain a classic, a great jazz pianist, I could listen to Nora Jones all day long and often do while I’m throwing pottery!
I have an Old Soul. Her music fills my soul tremendously. Anyone else feel this way? Awesome!

She DEFINETLY makes it her own!

You don’t know how appreciative we are.
I hear Janis Joplin as well!! So many beautiful people have given us this beautiful song.
The fact that NORAH makes everything she plays and sings her own is what makes her so great..
We listened to Marian's radio show for years - "Piano Jazz" I think. A treasure.

Norah Jones is the queen of all the classic songs perform. Correct notes, correct way... Thanks God he gave you us Norah❤️
beautiful. I love jazz and I love Norah Jones and I love Marian McPartland
Wow! Norah has a country side AND a jazz side. AWESOME cover.
"Summertime" ~ so profound ... so prophetic ... so soothing !! ⚘🌻💕

First time I've heard this version. Fantastic! Thanks for posting it.
Ella & Norah = Summertime magic!
Norah is truly amazing. McPartland goes back halfway to forever in the jazz world. This version also echoes Doc Watson's bluegrass version.
Very refreshing bluesy version of this classic. Rest In Peace, Marian, you will be greatly missed!
Love this song...a classic...Norahs' take on it is unique, just like Norah, a classy lady with so such talent...🌹🌹🌹
Drinking whiskey and listening to Norah Jones on a weeknight might be the appitomy of human advancement.
Classic song. She does it justice. Beautiful cover.
Ella is in heaven dancing to this version.

An absolutely superb presentation of the famous song by Norah Jones.
Her phrasing is all her own..and makes every song she sings..her own as well….and I can say the same for her piano…
I expected to hear good singing (It is!) but the piano interpretation is Soooo enjoyable!!! Great job! Best piano of Summertime that I've heard!
I love this version! She is incredible!
Norah voice is so smooth and great..

Beautiful, effortless and always special admiration for those who can sing and play at the same time.

What I love about Norah, aside from her physical beauty, is her distinctive voice. She sounds like no one else and nobody sounds like her.
So true
I think she sounds very beautiful and makes one comfortable. Because I am not single so don't know why you said she sounds no one else like her could you tell me where is she distinctive voice?
comme pour chaque voix ! qui est unique !
@@kinedwin5290 Distinctive because it is intantly recognizable as "her" voice with the first notes your hear, distinctively Norah.
She sounds a little like Billie Holliday
The best performance by far.
Toda LINDA! Canta demais, e ainda toca um piano irretocavel! Nota 1.000!
Effective and beautiful playing and singing!
There’s so much love and peace just listening to u sing ,in my heart
Come on girl Tell 'em. Now this is Jazz
her voice makes me forget all problems in my life for a while
Amei! Voz divina......
Me fascina esta versión,el tema es lindo pero en la voz de Norah Jones y con piano son más bellos aún.

Very good Dick!
How about the Walker Brothers version... any takers?
pour vous ! for jou !!
" LATE MS> JANIS JOPLIN" SLAYS AS ONLY "LATE SAMMY DAVIS JR>DID
What a nice jazzy version of this tune. Love Norah always!!!
We are routinely introduced to this beautiful version here. We were very comfortable with that. Great. 4:05
I have something to talk to you about. Get a sec? this song is beautiful.Nothing can beat it.
Reminds me of growing up in the city in the summer ! Miss the youth , miss the big city ! Thank you for the song .

Had to be someone special - I was blown away by these chords!
1ElCondor Summertime Anna moffo
These are pretty much the chords as described by Gershwin orchestrally and printed in the 'real book'@@auursigurkarlsdottir6114
@@FrancisMaxino Gershwin was a genius before his time--and left us much too soon.
The images got me thinking Norah was playing and I was "WHAT". Some of those intermediate chords were just... damn.
Norah, o voce si o muzică din altă lume! Muzica ei este fabuloasă
Love this song
so smoooooooooooothe...
"Like a fine summer wine that's divine, all the time."
It's not a fine wine divine time unless it rhymes.

Já toquei essa música ao piano e muito! Tocava estilo blues! Bom ouvir na voz de Norah Jones!
