    Great video Dylan very informative. So important to leave that room for expansion in the winter months especially with dark siding like that. Winter time I also like to use screws for installing. Cant use normal deck screws cause of the taper on the head but use 1” particle board screws that have the flat washer on the back of the head they pretty much the size of your roofing nails and I’ve never had a blow off. Also saves the siding you miss with hammer at this time of the year your cracking the vinyl for sure and if you ever drive the screw little too tight just easy to back it out a bit

    No matter what summer or winter you should always cut your siding 3/4 and inch, if you cut it snug in summer, once it freezes your done bud! It is ok too be average though and next time make sure you nail in the middle of the nail slot which you did not do

    Is it a good idea to install vinyl siding with button head/mushroom headed screws, so flat on the inside and with square bit head (using 1/2" pine plywood for the sheathing); thinking of 3/4 screws since I need some play for the vinyl. Thanks for the vids!

      You can but it’s not recommended as the backs on the screw heads are slightly slanted, making them easier to be pulled out of the nailing channel. Roofing nails have a wide flat head that helps cover the nailing flange more efficiently.

    If you put that nail in the top how it supposed to move down?

    • @Average_Roofer
      @Average_Roofer  Год назад

      It won’t technically move down. However when the vinyl expands, it allows spacing for it to stretch up and down in this situation.

      @@Average_Roofer so it will expand down even tho the nail is holding it fro I'm moving down?

      @@Brandon-no3vc yes the vinyl will expand (stretch) If you nail it in a way that doesn’t allow for this expansion your siding will warp in the heat.
