These are all just variants of ancient Pranayma techniques- Wim Hof, SOMA, Holotropic breathing, Midwestern Method. It's all Pranayama, then just Westernized for our consumption. I do respect all the Instructors and teachers trying to educate people, but don't cut corners, do basic Yogic breathing, master these techniques, and you will have beneficial effects of Wim Hof or any other method. The same holds true for cold showers or cold exposure, has been done by Buddhists monks for generations as a part of their initiation. Even great Alan Watts talks about it. BTW, don't get me wrong, I respect Wim Hof so much, followed his courses as well, but it all boils down to ancient techniques that have been around forever. We all have these capability inside of us, be disciplined, aware of your body and spirit, and you'll get there regardless of the name of the fancy technique.

@@jchief40 Thank you, I was just trying to indicate that there is a common source of all the practices that is deeply rooted in the ancient traditions. I am just talking from my own perspective, as a Westerner, European, and my practice during most of my conscious life. Breathing is a tool that we ignore and take for granted. So is the existence of the highways that transmit energies in our bodies in and out of chakras. During the 30 years or practice I was able to allow the inner intelligence to emerge on several occasions, it is more real than anything tangible in our material world. It is impossible to put in words, but it does exists and is the sole purpose of our existence available to everyone. Honestly, there is no manual as to how to get there, there are millions of routes, and the only thing you can do is just to let everything go, completely liberate your mind and then you will feel it. In that process of "liberation", as I cannot find a better work, breathing, meditation, physical exercises matter, as does the geometry of the body- your spine and position of the neck, your hands, feet. We seem to be a perfect machine with this material and spiritual duality, and the later is dormant. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea :) Just love yourself and allow yourself to be your true self. Cheers

@@kentaur.1555 its absolutely mind blowing how social conditioning as suppressed one of the most simplest things and natural to us such as breathing, before I became aware of my breath I noticed I was just breathing through my chest, constantly stressed out and overthinking....just breathing correctly for a few minutes can change the mind and body so dramatically its incredible.

    • @kentaur.1555

Christopher Williams couldn’t agree more! Our educational systems teach us so many completely irrelevant things but not how to breathe properly. I was lucky to have learned to breathe with my stomach when I was 10, but every child should know it, and when/how to use it to reduce stress and anxiety. It would help them tremendously to master every situation and challenge that life puts ahead of them.

I have just found and tried this out of interest, my oxygen level dropped to 79% surprisingly, but then rapidly came back up with a sip of air and by then the hypercapnic drive to breath (ie rising CO2 levels) stopped any further significant residual volume breath holding. Didn’t notice any heightened awareness, etc but there is research evidence that low oxygen levels can stimulate release of stem cells from bone marrow and that controlled brief episodes of hypoxia via breath holding at full expiration can be beneficial in medical conditions ranging from osteoarthritis to Parkinson’s disease. Obviously prolonged hypoxia such as in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is harmful to the body on many levels .

Heyyy!, this is an amazing tutorial! Good music! It's sort of the opposite of Wim Hof breathing? To me it seems that way. So I did one round of both, and held my breath for what seemed like 5 minutes. Haha it was unbelievable. I've done Wim Hof breathing for about 3 years and have been experimenting with different ways of breathing in addition to that, as breath and meditation are a teacher or a spirit. So I've sort of done this, but not like this completely. So in a cycle of wim hof style breathing right of this style of breathing, which is slightly different and much better than other Soma guided sessions I've seen,.. anyway, after a really good cycle of this, and then wim hof .. on the exhale and breath hold, it seemed like an eternity with no breath. I'm sure it was the longest I've ever held my breath by far, then on the inhale!, oh man, ..not just colidascop stuff, visions... and it went on and on.

Ok I'm back...At a loss for words. I felt totally disconnected from my subconscious being but a sense of oneness with the earth. The breathing which initially seemed forced began to feel natural and with each inhale, exhale, breathe hold I fell deeper onto a state of Bliss. Truly magical and will be adding to my daily routine.

Evening guys. Been doing this for a month now, having done pranic breathing for years. I virtually match Orlando with breath holds and exceed his final full breath hold. Issue I have is my blood seems to remains highly oxygenated when holding on empty lungs. Wonder if you had any thoughts why this is.
Wondered if there might be option for a session with split screen to see the oximeter in action as you move through the sequences...
    Thanks in advance....Pete 😁

Evolution of Dave brought me here, too. This was really interesting. One question, however. How do I source the right music for my own practice? Is there a "type" or style or genre of music I should seek out. I'm in my sixties so my music collection wouldn't reflect what I heard used on this tutorial. I have just begun the Wim Hof method and getting some fantastic results with that, so I would be keen to try this method as well. Thank you

There's so many contradicting health concepts out there man. I thought I should have MORE oxygen, now I hear it's.... good to be in a state of hypoxia? Just like one minute I hear I should drink vinegar, next thing I know, I should be alkaline?
