- We need a nap! This past week has been jam packed with excitement, renos, laughter, & lack of sleep! lol We will get the entryway done this next 2 days and complete the mainfloor DIYS for mom & dad!

I came home at lunch and saw the reveal. I cried. Not a lot cause I had to go back to work, but it was emotional. You and Phillip and the boys knocked it out of the park on this one. They ARE great parents and this makeover was not only deserved but showcased the entire family's talent! I love the cottage and will keep watching the homestead and NS Retirement Getaway Makeover! I love you all too. And yes, I hit the thumbs up and am subscribed for life!
Elysia I have been a subscriber for about 6 to 7 years and watch every video. The family dynamic is what attracted to your channel. My in-laws were a best people you can imagine.
Unfortunately they are gone and missed but many sweet memories remain. Like you I would do anything for them.

I saw somewhere .. where they took a braided rope and went around their ceilings. It was a rope that they dyed a contrasting color. They did around doors also. Just an idea to cover up little imperfections.
That sounds like a great idea with it being a coastal home
@@cheribreier9558 doesn’t have to be huge and thick. Comes in all sizes. I’d do it along the ceilings at least. Hide all the imperfections instead of nailing in another board. Just a thought I had seeing the results.

Think many of us can relate to what you're doing given that few of us have the financial wherewithal or professional resources to pull off the kind of makeovers which can be found on YT which are wonderful to look at, and perhaps offer inspiration, but are not reality.
yes we are a family that operates on a small budget so we like it to be real life. We started our youtube life with zero dollars to our name if you remember from day 1 so our channel never was or never will be about spending lots of money on makeovers and items

Oh fun. Some more!! I love you doing this redesign on a budget with as much recycled and repurposed as possible. There r many redesign shows but if you get to do it with new stuff to me that just says if you have money you can have nice things but small budgets on recycled stuff draws my admiration. I LOVE that you guys were able to bring the walls back to the original beadboard! It's absolutely lovely :) Since you guys saved on the budget, maybe you could bring it to the next level by adding some crown mouldings to the walls to make the transition between the walls and ceilings more seamless? I love the beadboard but the gaps between the ceiling and walls are driving me bonkers lol. Amazzzzing makeover as always Elysia! Seeing mom and dad's reactions really brought tears to my eyes, it was heartwarming. Your relationship with your family is absolutely precious. :')

I absolutely love your living room, it's so light and airy with the double windows, yet warm and cosy at night with the fire. A rolling pantry would be brilliant under the stairs, I've seen them somewhere before, but can't remember where lol. Looking forward to seeing what happens from this point on.

Ok, I'm thinking you can build, on casters a tall narrow maybe 2ft wide and as tall as the refrigerator that pulls out the side that faces out use beadborad and the side the faces refrigerator leave open with shelves, it can store all her baking needs and spices, small appliances...I know if anyone can create something amazing for that space it's you!!! BTW...great job...love the backsplash ❤

About the shelf over the coat hooks: have you considered extending the shelf the entire length of the wall, and putting another shelf over the window until where the front door would end when opened? That might provide Mom & Dad additional places to display their arts & crafts, or storage baskets for winter items (hats, gloves, shawls, etc). BTW: LOVE the geometric back splash!

Hello Elysia and Phill i have been watching the transformation and I have two favourites and one runner up to comment on. I think the ceiling has undergone an amazing transformation. I get so mad at the people who came before who mixed up bead board along with large bead board and then threw in some shiplap for good measure. I did not think that ceiling had a chance in hades to look good. But was I wrong? I am so happy to be wrong!!! The ceiling looks FANTASTIC. Your idea to paint it all white worked miracles. My other favourite thing is completely different. It is Mom's craft table position tucked behind the couch! Genius Elysia, Mom can even watch TV while crafting! The runner up is the red cupboard doors. Again I thought the red would be too garish BUT it is a very deep red, has some black in it and it looks colourful while looking kind o' classy. WELL DONE you two, well done! I am glad the backsplash is not done yet I can comment on it another time Carol in Halifax
