I don't even want to play "drums" after watching Travis, I just want to pick up a pad and go back to basics, while focusing on the details. A lot of drummers don't enjoy playing on a pad, because it's "boring." But something about Travis just takes that all away. He always inspires me to almost "start over." Again, going back to the basics, and building from the ground up. He's a gigantic inspiration to myself, and so many other players. 🤘
When I was younger I was like that. Never wanted to do my rudiments. But yeah, it is what you make it. At some point, when I decided to take it more seriously, it felt really rewarding to see progress on the pad. Which in turn made me want to do pad work even more. Then the cycle of self reinforcement begins and it becomes as rewarding as playing on a kit.

Travis has a style that he completely owns, his individual fill style is always dynamic and musical. On the Willow song Grow Travis starts the song with a drum fill that no one else is able to play. He's a gifted drummer who keeps evolving. The essence of Blink-182 sound and a drummer who is able to connect with so many other artists with a positive outcome. @@TheOriginalZebrawr yeah, this comment doesn't make much sense. I love Travis, but that fill has really nothing special to it and Travis himself has played stuff that is way way way more complicated (just listen to The Fallen Interlude).

I'll always remember how stoked my drum teacher was on Travis Barker when I was growing up. He LOVED to dissect songs, write 'em out and teach me them because of how talented Travis was. Travis's fundamental understanding of rudiments is what makes him a fantastic drummer. Favorite "rudimentary" song for me: Always. That opening on rim/ride is so good. RIP Brett, thanks for getting me obsessed with Travis.
I always loved his style of drumming. Always liked the 6 stroke roll on the build up of All Small things. It's just awesome. And the way he plays the fast songs like Pathetic or Josie.
Not sure if you meant to imply otherwise but those last two aren't his parts 😅 He can play the standard fast punk stuff fine, but they're nowhere near as creative as the stuff he's written.
@@itmeurdad He didn't say he wrote them, how he plays them. Either way he puts his only flair on the songs and plays them much better than Scott did. Just like how he made Dammit his own.
@@muccmaster I think that's my point. When it's a straight forward fast-as-you-can punk beat for 3 minutes there's not really that much he can do to "make it his own" Sure he can add a fill or two on those but it's pretty much indistinguishable from one drummer to another.
Just watched this after their first LA show earlier tonight. They sounded so amazing. Travis Barker has been the blueprint to my drumming, and getting to see him live made me tear up. This is such an awesome interview because it shows how dedicated and passionate Travis is to our instrument the drum kit. Always reaching, always growing, he inspires me to love working hard as much as playing live. Great video as always, Drumeo! (And on the crazy chance anyone sees this, I would love a video about Karen Carpenter!)
This is beyond exciting. I love drumeo content, and Travis opened my eyes to the world of drums. Enema indoctrinated me into punk rock and led me to so much more. As a result helping form the man I am today. So grateful for Travis and for Drumeo.
Me too. And fuck that other foreign language speaking tool man. guy probably only spouts retarded, baseless insults like that cuz to me he seems like the kind of weird, creepy, sketch ass fuckin "grown up" who appears to be entirely way too interested in kids... But purely for sick, nefarious reasons which usually end up putting themselves in prison
I always loved this dude more than blink. Blink is sweet, but I thoroughly enjoyed following his drumming on social and his chill vibes. He deserves all the respect. He is a fantastic drummer.
It's crazy how influential Barker's playing was to drummers my age (36 years old). This dude changed drumming. It's crazy to think about. His drums are just so fun to play.
when i was 12 i would air drum enema strikes back album everyday for about a year until my parents finally got me a full kit and they impressed with how much i already knew how to play i hadn’t perfect them yet but it def helped. travis is my biggest musical inspiration!
drumeo has been huge for years, but having travis on just put you guys through the stratosphere. enema of the state is the reason i started playing 24 years ago
He’s the lead instrument in the band and his fills are just as catchy as guitar fills in a normal guitar rock song. That’s why he’s one of the best ever
FINALLY at Drumeooooooo, I'm so happy, thanks for the video. I love him since I'm 14 I have now 34 and still playing drums, he is my biggest inspiration. I will see him live when he come to Paris soon 🤩 I hope you invited him to come at Drumeo studio for another video !
Wow! Drumeo, huge appreciation for inviting Travis! I wish you've got more time for interview and could do more stuff. His rudimental routine, some breakdowns of complicated drum parts i.e. bridge part of "The end with you" by BCR or ending part of "Down" at Letterman in 2006 or 7
Been Playing Drums for years. When I first started, Travis and the Drummer from Greenday always caught my interest. Travis is rock solid , with speed and power. He can groove funky as well and swing it , or Samaba it up when he needs. One of the Greatest well rounded drummers in Rock History in my opinion. Keep it Groovin Travis! 🤜
Always loved his symbal tricks. I think that was actually what got me into Blink at first, what really called my attention. Travis is still my fav drummer
Love the way he incorporates rudiments into beats. When I started playing rudiments felt so boring but knowing you can do this with them makes such a difference!
I come from a musical background of metal, rock, blues, jazz etc and up until around 10yrs ago I wouldn’t have looked twice at Travis as I assumed he was just a basic rock player……..It blows me away at how absolutely narrow minded I was. This guy is off the charts in every aspect of drumming - technical ability, feel, creativity, theory, practice etc and not to mention the sweetest guy you could ever hope to meet especially as a fan. Nothing but the highest respect for him now - he’s actually in my top 5 favourite drummers 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It is just so funny how much better Travis is at his instrument then Mark and Tom, but you put all 3 of them together and that's what makes them Blink. I play guitar because of Tom, and wish I could play the drums like Travis but you gotta be realistic with your skills haha.
I remember seeing a video back in the day of Travis doing some sick drum line shit and when he was done Mark was like “yeah, I barely know how to play my instrument.”
Mark is an amazing song writer and Tom has a really unique voice so they really bring their own strengths to it. The fact that the drumming is the most musically complex part really works because you can't really have overly complicated harmonies or melodies in punk rock. Adding a layer of depth to the drums elevates the songs without taking away their 'punk-ness'.
@@baltimorebjj so very true! blink just wasn't blink before Travis. He elevated both the other goons in ways no one else possibly could have. Travis is the first drummer I discovered who actually brought the fact that drummers could be musicians too... It wasn't just about being loud, fast, and keeping time. He truly plays the kit like an instrument, which is more than could be said of most drummers. I think a lot of drummers are too focused on rhythm, and tend to color in the lines musically. Unpacking his style opened my ears to an entire world of music there's no way I would have found otherwise.
It took me listening to Neighborhoods and falling in love with a lot of those songs for me to get over myself and realize how great Travis is. Seems a remarkably humble dude, too.
Damn, this was too awesome and way too short! Need to get this man into the drumeo studio for an 1hr and a half deep dive on the kit 😎👌 thanks for this 👏

Travis is the last true legend in the hall of fame of drumming. The guy everyone knows and respects, his legacy is priceless. Thanks Drumeo for the rare opportunity to see the explanation from the source🙏
Travis is one of my favorite drummers. Ever since Dude Ranch, I've told everyone willing to listen how amazing he is. The fact that he seems like such a cool dude is even better.
Travis Barker & DJ AM - Fix your face... I've listened to that Mixtape so much that a lot of songs have his drums ingrained in my brain instead of the original. In addition, their taste in music is right up my alley.
Travis was always one of those guys that flew a little under the radar for me, I mean I liked blink-182 but I didn't really understand how much of a badass Travis is.... Now I know, the guy is an ABSOLUTE BEAST !!!!! And he seems like one hell of a nice guy, very humble and that's what makes him great, in my opinion. Thanks drumeo for spotlighting such a great artist. 🤘🥁🥁🤘
So cool his comment about still trying new stuff every night but his respect for the fans and songs by keeping all the key air drum sections. That is awesome.
Travis barely talks in interviews but is clearly energized talking about drums. The passion isn't a put on, and he didn't get his chops any other way than practice and hard work (+ some inate skill, of course). 25 years into his career and he's never sounded better! I'm into seeing more content like this (i.e. drummer warm-ups, practice methods, etc). Most of us need to circle back to the basics and work on our weak areas as opposed to staying in our comfort zone.
Blink never really resonated with me growing up, but back then I didn't realize the chops Travis had. Seeing these interview/demos years later has opened my eyes. On recordings he seems to tastefully play to the song, but it would be interesting to see him do some egregious over-playing on something. Has Travis done any particular albums or projects like that? Based on this video I think the live show is where it's at.
I listen to anything like Blink, Metallica, Gojira, Dream Theater, Children of Bodom etc but Travis is my favourite drummer because he was one of my first main inspirations and his showmanship is something to be admired. I'm not saying he's the best, I don't think any drummer is, but he's fucking good.
Awesome to see Travis on the channel, especially in a personal setting like this on practice pads. I saw blink on their self-titled album tour as a teenager - not only was it was my first concert experience, but Travis came out on a rotating drum pedestal in the crowd for an extended solo which absolutely killed. Will never forget it. Saw them earlier this year, and they sounded even better. He has so many creative drum parts in his catalogue and it’s exciting to see him active across different new artists’ projects in recent years.

Not sure if you meant to imply otherwise but those last two aren't his parts 😅
He can play the standard fast punk stuff fine, but they're nowhere near as creative as the stuff he's written.
@@itmeurdad He didn't say he wrote them, how he plays them. Either way he puts his only flair on the songs and plays them much better than Scott did. Just like how he made Dammit his own.
@@muccmaster I think that's my point. When it's a straight forward fast-as-you-can punk beat for 3 minutes there's not really that much he can do to "make it his own"
Sure he can add a fill or two on those but it's pretty much indistinguishable from one drummer to another.
Banda pra criança
@@guilherme8930 great, I was in 7th grade. Act like an adult.
Got the chance to see him play live a month ago . Life changing
I watch his video of a typical practice session on RUclips whenever I need to hone my skills after a layoff. So motivational!
Can’t believe you guys got Travis. What a cool conversation. He is the drummer for my childhood.
drumeo has been huge for years, but having travis on just put you guys through the stratosphere. enema of the state is the reason i started playing 24 years ago
He’s the lead instrument in the band and his fills are just as catchy as guitar fills in a normal guitar rock song. That’s why he’s one of the best ever
I honestly could watch just Travis drum on those pads for hours, such a fun interesting and fun style. And he seems like such a humble, caring guy.
I need to see him
Breakdown what he plays in “I feel so” from
boxCar Racer. The verse drums are insane! And the fill from “ time to Break up “
mannnn 100% facts. Those two songs are fucking amazing
One of my favorite fills all time. So quick so clean, and used at the perfect time. I’ve commented about time to break up a billion times online.
Absolute legend. Incredible skill, unmistakable creativity...
And such a good human.
Travis is such a huge inspiration for me and so many other drummers because of special / recognizable beats. So excited for this one 🔥Thanks Drumeo 🙏
It's so refreshing to see someone so dedicated and genuinely passionate about their craft
So proud of the level you’ve reached. Thank you and Travis for sharing this with us. I really should pay more attention to he rudiments now
Always loved his symbal tricks.
This video was such a treat thank you Travis seems like a great guy too
I know nothing about drumming, but Travis is such a role model. He's a great producer as well, the album is phenomenal ❤☺
I saw him in LA twice he is just a machine. Freaking incredible.
For me the drums in the song Always is just so so good. Couldn’t get enough of that drum beat. Amazing
@@ericbert6551 I'm pretty sure I've seen the same videos lol
Mark is an amazing song writer and Tom has a really unique voice so they really bring their own strengths to it. The fact that the drumming is the most musically complex part really works because you can't really have overly complicated harmonies or melodies in punk rock. Adding a layer of depth to the drums elevates the songs without taking away their 'punk-ness'.
@@baltimorebjjthat's actually rather well put, and I have to say I actually agree. Cheers mate
I've been waiting for this since drumeo started!!!
Travis, thank you for your support of young artists, you truly have a big heart!
Damn, this was too awesome and way too short! Need to get this man into the drumeo studio for an 1hr and a half deep dive on the kit 😎👌 thanks for this 👏
Man Travis Barker is a legend! I grew up listening to blink 182 and was always amazing at how quick and accurate his drumming is! I got to practice rudiments way more!
Travis is the last true legend in the hall of fame of drumming. The guy everyone knows and respects, his legacy is priceless. Thanks Drumeo for the rare opportunity to see the explanation from the source🙏
The last true legend? That’s a ridiculous statement.
Travis is one of my favorite drummers. Ever since Dude Ranch, I've told everyone willing to listen how amazing he is. The fact that he seems like such a cool dude is even better.
Definitely one of the most influencial drummers of ALL time... like it or not.
Doesn’t matter how many times I hear Travis, I have to retrieve my face off the floor. Top 3 of all time for sure
If he isn't in the conversation, he NEEDS to be. NEEDS to be in the list of best Drummers ever!
Excellent video!
I love the "whatever" as he's going ham like it's nothing😂
Def watch some live performances on RUclips. Just about every song he plays live has extra stuff in it, going back to the Enema Of The State days.
he plays some very creative and interesting stuff on a lot of their songs
Happy Father's Day, Travis!!!🙌🏻👨👩👧 Congratulations on the new baby that's on the way!
So do I!
One of my favourite drummers of all time. Love his technicality. So hated for no reason.
This guy is great dude and he shows with ease how the things ARE NEEDED to be PLAYED...well done...
I personally have never liked Blink 182’s music but Barker’s skill and creativity is unquestioned
This is awesome! Way to go to performer when they're too busy. Thanks Travis and thanks to drumeo!
