Seaspan Holds Keel Laying Ceremony for HMCS Preserver

You're ten years too late. It's a good thing that Admiral Norman had Asterix built. We know that Preserver isn't going to finish on time. What are the chances that it will be completed under budget? Davie should have been allowed to built Obelix rather than wait until Vancouver learned how to build ships while the Navy withered away.

You do recall that Davie was in recivership (no pun intended) when these contracts were let and neither Irving nor Seaspan had the audacity to whine and cry and impose themselves on the already completed bidding process with a jury rigged scow that wouldn't survive an hour in actual combat 😢

@@BradFalck-mn3pc None of the ships currently building would survive an hour in actual combat. Irving doesn't start those for a couple of years, yet. It's too bad that they didn't jury rig another scow so that the navy has an adequate feet of auxiliaries going forward. One AOR on each coast is not enough. One of anything om each coast is not enough.

Canada made the mistake of going two decades without ordering a new warship and is thus living with the consequences of having to recruit and train new shipbuilders as most of the previous generation of shipbuilders have either have been laid off, retired, or died... Taking a decade to build new warships is embarrassing, ships should be built within five years from first conception, not ten...

@@cannack Except the first River class destroyer won't be first in class nor being designed in Canada as no doubt you know. The RN and RAN have already started building theirs with the HMS Glasgow already being fitted out. On top of that, according to the Ottawa Citizen
"The first completed CSC was originally to have been delivered in the early 2020s. In February 2021, National Defence admitted the delivery of the first vessel wouldn’t take place until 2030 or 2031.
But on Thursday, senior government officials, who can’t be named because of the rules governing the technical briefing, provided further details about delivery schedule. The first nine ships should be in the hands of the Royal Canadian Navy by 2040, with the final ship delivered by 2050."
By then the Halifax class ships they will eventually replace will be about 50-60 years old. Great work Canada.

It will carry .50 cal machine guns and CIWS. It's better armed the the US Navy's Kaiser class oilers.

How about taking the 1" chain guns off of the AOPVs, putting them on the new AORSs and fitting the APOVs with some decent caliber guns?
