    The over-gripping tip is major. One session where my skin was bad going in, I had to force myself to minimally grip everything and it actually made me climb far more technically.

    At 22:20 when they analyze the knee inside/outside technique, which is a super cool tip, there is one big oversight - THE ELBOW! I feel like Sara blocks herself completely by having the elbow into her stomach while Louis has his on the outside, which lets him move the hips closer to the hold. Even when he tries to spot her you can tell it would be impossible for her to get closer because of that, not because of flexibility. It must be hard to notice while you're on the wall, but comparing the split screen it becomes obvious. P.S. I'm a total beginner, just a thorough observer 🙏

    Something that feels very relevant to your tips about the second climb: doing boulders that aren’t your style will expand your toolkit for climbs that are as well. Perfect example here, learning to utilize momentum can help with many boulders, not just dynos

  • @florianpreis9239
    @florianpreis9239 Месяц назад

    There is one more important point to add on this Orange V4 - Dynamic. Placing the foot on the volume with more momentum is one method. The important bit here though is that the foot lands a bit higher, i.e. the orthogoal force on the volume and hence the friction is higher. On the steep volumes it is often advisable to (in particular on static moves) to get more pressure against the wall: placing the center of mass a bit farther away from the wall, placing the foot higher…

  • @gezza18

    It’s cool to see how Sarah started off quite anxious about the grade and just after a little bit of encouragement she is confidently doing the dynamic V4 that she probably would’ve avoided in a normal session. 👏

    I start most climbs on my very first attempt without reading it much at all strictly because so many climbs feel so different when you actually get on them and the plan I come up with won't work. I just get up on it first, get an idea of what I'm dealing with, then plan out my route for the second try knowing more about how the holds are when I get up there. Could be that I'm just not very good at reading climbs without feeling them out but it works for me.
    I do however approach the start of every climb as if it'll be easy so that is a huge part of it.

    I really think the advice to try and go slow at the right moments is helpful for me.
    As far as don't avoid the climbing style you are bad at.. I avoid really crimpy holds because I don't have strong enough fingers. I don't really know how to fix that by trying to do them though, it just feels like my fingers are not strong enough for some holds. I also avoid anything in the cave, because I find that I can't keep climbing for very long if I spend time on those steep angles. The climbs at my level look so much more juggy and less technical, and the limiting factor feels like power. I would rather be at the gym for 2-3 hours with long breaks between climbs doing climbs that require more finesse and less power than working on the cave for 30 minutes and then needing to go home because I am gassed.
    If anyone has advice on this I would take it sincerely to heart. I am currently pleased with my progress, I used to be thrilled to do one V3 in a session, and now I am trying to do many V3s in every session, and repeating them. I have not done a V4 yet though.

    Trying things regardless of wondering "IF" it can be done is what im really trying, my big issue is overhang! I'm a heavier build and struggling with skin after any overhang climb. Do you have any tips for overhang or skin maintenance? Love the tutorial vids :)

    • @gxorrok8770
      @gxorrok8770 3 месяца назад

      1. train your core and footwork. it helps to keep positions. the more you move and/or lose contact, the more your hands rub over the holds
      2. train your skin. when you stress your skin regularly it will become harder over time. give it time to grow and split your training in different kind of holds and styles (once a week overhang, another day small holds for fingertips and sloper on a third day for example)

      Hiya, Sarah here. If you mean my watch, it's a Garmin Fenix! I use it to track all my sports, including climbing. I do a lot of different sports so it's good to know my training status otherwise I'm at a bit of a risk of overtraining
