- The World's Fastest Shed, brand new EVs, beautifully modified pre-war classics, radio controlled drift cars, a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck, Projects of the People and Jonny Smith's remarkable collection of vehicles - this show had all that and more. Held at Manchester Central, which is impressive in its own right. Keep an eye out for the official @TheLateBrakeShow report as I'm sure it'll be better, and hopefully won't have flickering!

The grey Beetle with the turbo is mine. It's a 1915cc waterboxer out of a T3 (or T25, if you prefer) transporter. Currently makes 300bhp.
Great content. Mini Hubnut definitely has the car bug. You're teaching him well.
Genesis is a Hyundai product. Loved your humor on that.
Be funny if the owner of the Genesis only listens to Yes!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not sure if Hubnut genuinely didn't know that Genesis is Hyundai's Lexus. I'd be very surprised if he didn't.
Another great motor show I think the popularity of You Tube With Ian and others has created more interest in cars other than new ones
which is great news
Is Betty a she? I'm sure you said in a previous video he/she was trans fluid or something..... :D
Great video and thanks so much for the shout out on the metro,, your welcome to have a drive 👍🏻
The cactus keeping me going to shows whilst the acty is being worked on. Back at the NEC in the acty this weekend for the Classic Motor Show all being well. 🤞 (Hall 3 stand 111)
I absolutely adored that cactus at the show. I have always been a fan of the cactus, but yours was epic! especially paired the matching bmx
@@jackscott8931 thanks Jack ☺️
It makes me sad that they so rare down here in nz, love your cactus
@@mitchbuchannon6637 thanks. 🙂 Rarity can be a good thing if you can find a good one to own.
I think your cactus was my favourite car of the day. So refreshing to see something that isn’t performance oriented being modified subtly
I dispute which vehicle can claim to be the fastest shed in the world.
I had a Mk3 Cavalier SRi which I clocked at 112mph (on private land, of course) which was definitely a shed.
I had mk 1 cav couldn't do 100.
I tend to use my Transit as a shed... I only got 90 out of the old bus though (once). Probably the loudest noise I've ever experienced - like opening a portal to hell...
@@linseyyoung1772 I had ldv( sherpa )van shed pass me on the M5 years ago i like was standing still, unfortunately the bottom of the engine dropped out about 100yds in front of me .It needed a wheelbarrow to take to a proper shed .
@@raychambers3646 The engine which propelled mine to 90 met its end on the M6 near Carlisle doing around 70 as it threw a con rod through the side of the crankcase. Still managed to make it up the A7 nearly all the way back to Edinburgh with three cylinders and a hole in the side of the engine though!
I've not noticed it in other pics, but as Ian walked round to the D pillar of that Ioniq 5, I was getting strong wedge Princess vibes!
Yes, it does have a whiff of Princess about it.
Thanks for the tour Ian. Sorry for the noise from the RS500. The plugs were fouled to the extent that it needed a few revs to keep it alive 🙈
Don't apologise, just great to hear on being blipped
I was glad to film it running! Thanks for bringing it.
@@HubNut Most welcome, sir 😊👍
One of the greatest automotive channels on RUclips.
Mensch Günter: Deutsch versteht hier doch keiner!
HubNut and Johnny Smith (and a few others of course) offer content that no German is able to offer. The Germans are either boring, offensive... or both😂
@@skr525ia Danke! I do agree. If you’re able to understand a little bit Dutch, have a look at the Autoweek channel. They do great stuff as well; not boring, not offensive. Niederländer halt…
17:40 is definitely peak HubNut. Porsche meh. Lotus meh. Suddenly a loud gasp (!!!!) as a Ford Anglia comes into view.
16:07 Genesis is a luxury division of Hyundai I think. Never been sold in the UK until now.
Yep, you're spot on. Hyundai's 'Lexus', if you will.
I went to the one he put on in Leicestershire and it was so interesting to see the variety of vehicles on show, a really good day out.
Sounds like your had a good time, and I'm glad to hear through other channels that you finally got to chat to Richard Porter, who was *effusive* about how absolutely lovely and friendly everyone was at the show on the Smith and Sniff podcast yesterday, which I suppose includes you too ;)
In answer to your Brock - Rouse Sierra Bathurst question at 4:12. ;
ruclips.net/video/RH-KXvyjkdk/видео.html
A very good time for then in qualifying for the Bathurst 1000.
I have seen that XJ-S in the metal. My friend Dave Richards took a photo of me ogling it. The Honda E looks a bit like an Austin Maxi. Triple wipers on the Morgan, does that mean there is a double triangle of doom? I am a massive Queen fan and that Range Rover convertable wowed me. A great range of cars.
I remember the 'POO' registrations going down the road in the 80s. Always raised a chuckle from us kids 😆😎
The synchronised drifting of the model cars was so cool!
That looks like a cracking venue. Love the tunnel type car park too. For all the exotica I got most excited about the Metro City. So rare now to see them on their original wheels given the difficulties of finding tyres.
I agree. An eFig would make a lot of sense
I drove from Manchester to South Wales then mid Wales so I had the correct tyres👍🏻 it was a must because the car has only done 6k
just love seeing young mini Hubnut getting the car bug. what a lineup of magnificent cars.
The secret to a Figaro is to just absolutely floor it as much as possible. It *IS* quite fun up in the high revs. So just drive it like a 2CV in the power-less-is-more-way. Took me a while to figure out, and I also thought it was strange and slow in the beginning, but I have now had mine for over 3 years, and I really enjoy it a lot.
Great report on the show, that 309 looked good and the XR4i..I wanted one of those since I was a kid, best wishes.
The little radio controlled Kei truck is called a WPL D12
I went to the first one in Kent, and enjoyed it. I think if I was little Hubnut's age, I would have absolutely loved this - reminds me when I went to Earls Court motor show in about 91 (I think).
Not all Polestar cars are fully electric. The Polestar 1 is a hybrid, it's fitted with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as well as the electric gear. The P2 is a weird and somewhat ugly bit of design, it's very slab sided, lacking glass, and very plasticky. A bit like if you bought a cheap Chinese toy car of a Volvo.
The Honda E looked great in pictures, and looked like it would be a small city car, maybe FIAT 500 sized. It's so much bigger than a city car which is a shame. Not as big as the Ioniq 5 though - first one of those I saw in the flesh was in a multi storey car park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where it nearly couldn't fit in the space. It even made a Range Rover Evoque look quite small 😳
Colin Furze?? What's he blowing up???
If that 05 Sierra Cosworth is the real car then that's the one that Andy Rouse crashed at Bathurst, putting himself and Brocky out of the race...
It is genuine but the car that Rouse put in the wall after clipping another car is BRST1, thats the second Brock RS500 which is was restored and is owned by Andrew Miedecke in Port Macquarie.
FWIW Genesis is the name of the luxury brand that Hyndai/Kia try and establish in the US. I had no idea they would give a go at Europe too (or do they?).
They're trying to establish it globally. I'm in Australia and they are available here via Hyundai dealers.
Great video and a great selection of cars on display, looking forward to see if the Late Brake Show Tour reaches Scotland.
Ahem. That Figaro belongs to Jonny Smith's *wife*, not Jonny Smith...
Excellent show report from a very cool location and a great fun 'treasure' hunt.
The rc drift track was awesome, obviously enthusiastic about that. Thank you.
This was made better and more interesting by Jr Hubnut, Kudos Kid👍
Plymouth Suburban I thought that was familiar Jay Leno owns one a 1950 model it's a great road test on his channel in avocado. That's what I call the colour not the way it's preserved. It's original and unrestored one of my favourite estate cars. Americas first all-steel estate car. The brand new escorts are fantastic Id by one and put 1100 cc engine in with retrimmed poverty seats in perforated Olde English Vinyl and original L spec dash on a mark 1 shell. I wish I'd known about this show this was a great vlog, cheers Ian.
Isn't there a Chevrolet Suburban?
Can confirm the UP GTI is hilarious fun.
I also suggest you try a current Suzuki Swift Hybrid - also fun, small revvy 4 pot.
Disparate eclecticness by the barrowload here, with suitably encyclopaedic commentary thanks. Not unexpected priority focus on the Metro before the adjoining Mercedes convertible and ecstasy on Peugeot 309 rear lighting. I'm sure Jim Ratcliffe has Grenadier triangle of doom well specced, hoping for an official assessment in due course. Superb venue too, apparently a visionary railway station design by John Fowler from 1880, making future provision for car parking in the catacombs.
I must agree with you, the Ionic5 and Kia EV6 look stunning, but what a disappointment that they don't have rear wiper. I live in an area where for several months of the year car glass gets absolutely filthy from road grime. A rear window washer/wiper system is an essential fitment. Your reaction to the Genesis was hilarious. I imagine that by now your know that Genesis is to Hyundai what Lexus is to Toyota. Oh, and the first Plymouth was a Satellite, probably a GTX.
14:21 I remember the Nissan Figaro! Elizabeth Sladen drove one in the Sarah Jane Adventures!
I also loved the world's fastest shed. Its the kind of thing one of my fellow Americans would do.
It is nice to see a car show that does not have 10 Ford Mustang GT in the front row like most of the car shows in the USA. I always liked the looks of the Sierra. In the USA we got the two door Sierra under the name Merkur XR4Ti. Ford could not use the Sierra name in the USA due to it being used by GMC as the name of one of its pickup trucks and also because it sounded too close to how Ciera (Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera) sounded. So it was called XR4Ti. With its turbo engine, the car was pretty fast for 1980's standards and the double spoiler on the hatch made the car look like no other on the roads. The Merkur line was discontinued due to the fact they were pricy and everybody wanted Sables and Taurus (and in 1989 Ford offered the Taurus SHO)
That white Honda E near yours was me, glad you liked it! :) Great video!
Very interesting. As for Hyundai being on the top of their game, there is one HUGE failing that removes them from all consideration. The designers have forgotten that lights are functional! Over the course of the summer I needed to rent cars with air conditioning since my 1990 Volvo never did have it. The Hyundai products, regardless of brand, had absolutely dismal headlamps on dark roads, sometimes mounted IN the front bumper. On several the turn signals were at the outside corners of the rear bumper, the most vulnerable placement possible when it comes to minor impacts as well as being difficult or impossible to see in adverse weather such as heavy rain or snow. They need to get with the program and remember that lighting counts. While on that same bug bear, they need to get the interior dark! The dash design of every new car out there is a nightmare for driving at night in the country. There are way too many lights facing the driver and they impact night vision severely. We won't even touch the topic of "infotainment" screens. New cars are, by design, outrageously dangerous.
The Honda E needs to be banned! That idiot dash is simply dangerous. There is nothing at all good about that.
Seeing that Delorean reminded me that my uncle supposedly owns one, along with a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, just lying in a garage in the south of the Netherlands.
Genesis is Hyundai's luxury division. G70 3.3 turbo is very nice..I worked at a Hyundai dealership for a while.
unfortunately I had to stop watching , I often think that you don't linger long enough on individual cars at shows like this and just another 5 seconds on each one would really be much more satisfying, we barely see get to focus on any one car then voila, its gone , just slow it down a tad Ian, it would be a much better product if you weren't quite so flighty on these sort of occasions. :-)
i spent many years bouncing around in a dahtsu van with my work and i have a very soft spot for them .......not on my poor old bottom but a soft spot none the less !!
i love the metallic blue TR7 looking very desirable
the ionic doesn't have a rear wiper it uses a laser !!!
Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available new with Matte paint finishes. No rear wiper is a bit of an omission, Hyundai claimed aerodynamics at speed would keep rear screen clear, others have proven it doesn't!
It looks like a good percentage of GR Yaris imports were in attendance, was that 10, at least?!
It does look like it was a good time, I was fair gutted that I couldn't make it. Hopefully they will continue next year.
Great video, Ian. Thanks a lot. The Rover 214S was a particular highlight for me.
Why thank you! :D
The Stratos looks to be one that lived in our village until a few weeks ago when I saw it departing on a transporter!
It is, of course, a replica, in this case a Lister Bell STR.
Wasn't aware you had such strong opinions on wing mirrors
Was the TVR in the underground garage leaking from behind the front wheel?
Fun fact the silver SL was written off the day after the show because someone decided they didn’t like it being scratch free so they took screwdriver to every single panel and destroyed the original paint 😡
6:45 - Yeah, we had loads of them 914s in Canada. People used them year round and they rusted badly, like most of the cars. Rare now . . .
Exposed timing belts are an invitation for massive engine destruction. Ask my neighbour about his 16v Lotus engine and how it stopped suddenly at 5k rpm! Not a pleasant sight, what was left.
I'll quite happily swap my Ford Cmax for either the XR4i or Dodge Charger.
I loved how mini hublet talks off aerodynamics you almost had a debate going.Suppose you'll have a good luck at EV CV for upgrades on yours whilst the roof is being fixed (sorry you'd never change that engine for a milk float power house).
I'm in love with Betty (who wouldn't be?) and Post man's Pat dragster van.
I live in Manchester. Didn't know this event took place. Shame I wasn't there. Thank for the upload
I wonder if any EV's or hybrids get blurred out on some classic car video's on youtube.
I've seen the shed and the postman pat van race at Melbourne raceway many times, both quicker than you'd expect!
I can't hear the M6 mini-hubnut running comments! Mike the mini hubnut! ;)
The Iconic 5 or whatever it is called makes me want to buy a Fiat Strada.
I was peeved l couldn't attend, your vid cheered me up, thank you.
You should have took your pink car and gave it away
I never thought I would see that car at an indoor show!
I have seen that little Daihatsu van it passed me a few weeks ago
Great venue, great vehicles, great vid, many thanks.
23:30 Butterfly (by Crazy town) in the background. My god, i haven't heard that song since elementary school.
I was at the show and I have to say the selection of music there was fantastic!
The Genesis is the high end Hyundai i believe.
Walks past the Saab - their time will come ;)
Mine was the silver r129 SL
As an Australian it's surreal to see an AU Falcon at a car show but there you go.
I'm with you. When I spotted the AU on the Manchester railway station platform, it was a WTF? Moment.
Lotus esprit turbo, Renault twingo, the XR4i (rather than the Cosworth) and the Pug 309 are really standout cars for me. Oh and of course the 3 Dr Rover R8.
I had a previous work boss who drove a Blue Jetta but it didn't have those cross spoke alloy wheels.
An excellent even by the look of it.
My Grandad had a brand new Daihatsu Hijet van in silver with six seats exactly like the one here, well aside from it wasn't really spec. 😀
Think I've seen that Golf Estate at the motorist previously and did wonder if they ever made a genuine Harlequin.
Did catch you in the background in Harrys Garage NEC vid ..
Oh? Didn't spot him there!
0:53 Too much indicating?
I'm quite pleased that I can now say that I have something in common with Jonny Smith - we've both had our Nissan Figaros featured in a HubNut vid :) (Mine was the blue one in the HubNut Social at the Lakeland Motor Museum back in April 2019) 😁
Good🤔.. But I'd rather be at a Hubnut social.
Kind to say, but Late Brake Show is much more of an actual Show. I thought the day might drag, but there was interesting stuff going on for a large amount of the time.
In front of the MG EV estate and alongside the UP GTi mini HubNut said wasn't fast was my car, but a 981 Porsche Boxster S isn't very HubNut is it?
Still might have to move into more HubNut car territory as Today they announced our Factory is closing in March so I'm out of a Job then 😘
We were there-You seemed really busy chatting to people-excellent mix of cars-some very shiny(Esort Mk1 in particular-even Ian has to admit it was quite nice-even though not a Ford fan .Probably ok as not technically a Ford!)
Got to agree about handling of the Figaro. Looks great, but it is little better than the micras of the era. Drove just like my moms 1988 1.2L Micra, except with the wheel on the other side.
I think that beautiful little Ford Anglia @17:49 may well be a Super 123E (NOT 105E!) as I think I heard Mini-HubNut point out. 👍🏻
There was a 914-6 (far more common than the 916!), and the 916 was, of course, a bonkers track monster. But the 6 cylinder was a rarity in the 914 chassis
The Harlequin Golf reminds me of a £50 Maxi I had in the late `80s, only dark green with a red bonnet, white tailgate & a couple of harvest gold doors
Nice show, Jonny had all the information with the cars, you also show the very interesting parking garage, and so you complement each other.
RC cars are a money pit, don’t ask, you can get a RC to drift with ease with a d-box gyro and some slick tires or a rwd 32cc petrol 1/4 scale
@21:50 that's my Jetta. Yes getting incredibly rare these days my 91 GL 1.8 with the 4+Extra fast is one of 26 left on the road
I’m hoping to get to The NAEC Stoneleigh on Sunday 21st November for the Land Rover show
That Rs4
I've heard the Grenadier will be sold in NZ next year. I have to say I do like the look of that Morgan. Sorry😁
Looks like the bmw left it’s coolant on the floor
It got a bit hot...
Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed your tour of the Late Brake Show. I was great to see all of the different types of cars and other vehicles on show.
Fantastic
You should've come to Padova "auto d'epoca" (the biggest vintage car show in Europe), you would've liked it for sure!
I reckon the rear wiper on the Ioniq 5 is under the rear window spoiler, and driven from the top instead if the bottom.
1971 Plymouth Roadrunner
Cheers. Annoyed I couldn't remember given Freiburger restored one on Roadkill Garage.
Last time I saw a cabriolet classic Range Rover it was modified by an elk... A pillars also had more rake than usual.
I've watched Johnny driving the MST Escort mk2 on his channel.
The RS4 in silver 😍 Had one brand new in 2001, should never hv sold it...
I saw that 309, F260WLJ, at Knutsford services petrol station recently. It pulls as a 1.6 GL rather than a GTI. Replica or is the interwebs being wrong?
Replica. It's running bike carbs...
Ooooohhhh fruity
Weren't they originally meant to be called the Talbot Arizona?
17:32 that Ioniq 5 makes that SL look tiny. Or is it the other way round.
I have noticed a lot of these EV's tend to be more SUV in size than hatchback. The ioniq 5 is as bigger and wider than a Honda HRV SUV.
@@bentullett6068 correct due to the packaging resulting from the sandwich floor & hence larger rolling diameter tyres to maintain
pleasing proportions
@@dxutube I have also noticed how dangerously close to the floor those battery packs are on EV's. I have followed a Mustang Mach E, The Mercedes EQ SUV and the Hyundai Kona EV and if you follow from a certain distance you can see how much gap there is between the bottom of the car where the batteries are and the road and it isn't a lot. Comparison wise the Hyundai Kona is a good model to compare between the normal petrol, hybrid and EV version and there is definitely more space between the road surface and the car on the hybrid and standard petrol car but less so on the full electric.
